MediaWiki Upgrade

Hello, I had originally posted this on the proposals page but I was directed to you. I just joined this wiki and am currently waiting for autoconfirmed to start editing Super Mario Galaxy 2 and I've noticed that this wiki is running on an extremely old version of MediaWiki. Upgrading to MediaWiki 1.15.4 would not take very long (no more than 20-30 minutes per server but more like 5 if you have only one server) and it would introduce several bugfixes and new features that would make MarioWiki run more smoothly. Hey, take a look at the top of the king boo article!Count Bonsula I need blood...

Now I'm noticing some problems. I'll see if it's just for me, but can you check your userpage and everyone else reading this and can you see if the actions at the top (Userpage, Discussion, edit, etc...) and the boxes to the left (mario knowledge, navigation, search, etc...) are separated from, for example, the mario knowledge box appears at the top of my page, but everything else appears at the bottom. Page Protection

Um, hello. What's going on with the wiki? My page has shrunk, coding shows up, some writing on your talk page doesn't show, the advert stalks us, and the wiki crashes in the evening. Now I hear that all userpages are unprotected? Also there are the other problems noticed by other users here. And why does it turn into UTC when I use the 5 squiggly lines? Who's Online works fine. If you're referring to the {{:Special:WhosOnline}} code, the new code is {{:Special:WhosOnline}}. What funny symbols? And I didn't change anything regarding the time. I'm guessing that signature times are in UTC now so there's no need to adjust for time zones. All the live times can be offset in your preferences as usual. --Steve (talk) 20:22, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm hoping this is just my comp (Windows XP), but the <showhide> template doesn't work. Not a major problem, but annoying. More importantly, iFrames isn't working, which could seriously f*** up the Awards polls (which open tomorrow). Could you please look into this?

They should be to the side of the main section. You can make the main section thinner, though:

Reference/source link issues

After a few days of MarioWiki's mediawiki update - there are issues regarding the missing references. They don't show up in newer articles such as Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Mario Sports Mix when you're not logged in, while older articles like SSBB indeed show up. Please examine this. Template Box Problem

Shortly after the update of the MediaWiki version, the wiki still has the page views. After quite a while, I noticed that it disappeared from the bottom page. We can't tell how many views did articles received from being viewed by guests, and users - maybe even the Main Page (since we already reached 2 million views due to the release of SMG2). No, it's final. It causes server stress because guests see a cached HTML version of the page, so they don't pull the page content from the database. But the page counter has to access the database anyway, so it's an extra hit to the database. Hi steve! There's been some kind of a small(big) problem after the media wiki upgarde. When you edit something that takes time(tamplates, tables...) and click on save page, all your work is gone! Bot for adding categories

Hello Steve. Is it possible to use a bot for adding a category to a large amount of pages? For example, I would like to add the "WarioWare: Twisted! Images" category to the images that appear in every of the articles linked in this template (excluding the character articles). Image resizing issues

Steve, another problem regarding images. Most of the very small images I placed that I stretched was forced back into the original size. For example, this article. What I mean is we can't stretch the original images to make them larger (and so we don't have to reupload them in a larger image). Can you please check this out? This appears to be a big one that affects many small images that are supposed to be stretched into being large images (or medium). --RAP... 08:38, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

YouTube videos

Back before the wiki upgraded, YouTube videos appear on when the box appears on the resolution monitor - and if you scroll down and such, more will appear. After the wiki upgrade however, YouTube videos all appear at once, slowing down the page drastically. Here is an example of what I'm talking about: User:DonkeyKongCountryRocks. No matter what, these videos are objects embedded into the HTML of the page. The wiki doesn't determine when to load information on the page and it doesn't know what your monitor resolution is. I don't want to change the image in the top left. But having an official "logo" for uses such as NIWA sounds good. Similar to how Zelda Wiki.org uses a different image on the NIWA hub than the image in their top left. I like my updated version on the right with the cap flipped.

I created both our current Super Mario Wiki logo and the red cap logo. I just wanted to say I am very happy the logo will indeed get used for something. This means people really like it. At first sight, the flipped version of the logo looked a bit weird, but that is just because I was used to the original version I created. Your flipped version is cool. Image summary

Can you remove ":" from "Licensing:" when it comes to uploading future images? There have been uploads that have that text since the wiki upgraded, like this one: Link. Optional: Remove spacing from header "Summary" and "Licensing". --RAP... 18:43, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

If the ":" is removed, then it is also removed from the file upload page, but that's no good either because then Licensing is the only option without a colon. This is actually fixed in the new version of MediaWiki, so I'll remove the colon from both for now and then when we upgrade both will be correct. New extension

Block template glitch

umm... On the block template, for some people, it says, (the following is just an example)

Um... looks like it's been fixed... It was that way on User:Dry dry bones's talkpage, while he was blocked (it said, see the dry bones block log; User: Dry)

I have a proposal for you that you probably will say no to: [User:Glitz_Hawk|Glitz Hawk] and I own our own wikia site (if you don't know, Wikia is another wiki that you can branch your own wikis off of).
