Higher Authority

Hello I have written a article that reveals information on the octos proving they are a much older type of character.Wayoshi does not like it he made a talk page for the Talk:Octo-blooper Octo-blooper I would like to hear your views on it and what its fate should be.--Lord Crump 20:26, 4 November 2006 (EST)

I have no idea. Work it out with him. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:35, 4 November 2006 (EST)

Another free use license?

Is a template for a license like this incorporated into pd, or do we need a template like it? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) Wayoshisig.png 19:07, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

Added some of those. --Steve (talk) 19:40, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

Userbox

Thanks.HKHey Videogame dude! Talk to me!

No probalo! --Steve (talk) 16:54, 10 August 2006 (EDT)

Reply: Why

The userbox template has the font Arial, while the userboxsample template has the font Verdana, the default, causing a fake preview of the userbox. I changed the font to Arial because the font is smaller but still readable, saving space. I'm sorry if I caused any inconvenience. Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 23:42, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

So why didn't you just change the templates so they both agree with each other? --Steve (talk) 23:45, 5 August 2006 (EDT)
...One of the few times my brain didn't work. I apologize, I'll get to that now...but, what's the difference between the two templates? Wayoshi ( T·C·@ ) 23:46, 5 August 2006 (EDT)
The one has the category for the user pages and the sample one doesn't. --Steve (talk) 23:47, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

My Block

Are you really gonna block me? It was a super accident. I was doing some practice, and I brought back my old pal. I was clearing the pictures the one guy had and I'm sorry.HK

Okay I was just kidding but don't just clear the sandbox with some fake article thing when people are using it to test. --Steve (talk) 22:18, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

What prompted you?

What prompted you to make me a sysop?HK

I don't remember. --Steve (talk) 19:56, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

But it seemed like a good idea at the time, right?HK

Yeah. --Steve (talk) 20:07, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Okay, I just never asked, and I was mondering.HK

Speaking of sysops, exactly what is one and how do you become one?--Spike 00:13, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

Well sysops are just trusted wiki members with the ability to do more things on the wiki like easily rollback pages, ban trolls, delete and restore pages, etc. I just pick people I feel are qualified when I feel we could use some. --Steve (talk) 01:14, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

Some (Maybe) Bad News

I'm leaving, too. For the weekend. Starting Friday. Sorry.HK

Okay, thanks for the heads up. Enjoy! --Steve (talk) 22:53, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

I don't know if you listen to the GenY Retrocast... but I was in episode 21. If you get a chance, you should listen to it. Unless you already heard it. In which case... You could listen to it again... or not...HK

Whaaa? You're not generation Y :P. But I'll listen to it now. --Steve (talk) 23:13, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Actually, I technicaly am.... And in what I like... I jump between! Anyway, the episode is about mario super show and captain N!HK

Oh yeah you're right. It's hard to hear you. Get off your cell phone, boy. --Steve (talk) 23:18, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Yeah... We apologize about the poor quality. I should have used my grandma's landline.HK

Why are you telling me about this now anyway? It's an older episode. --Steve (talk) 23:20, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Because it just now hit me that I did a Mario related episode on GenY.HK

I also didn't know if you listened to the GenY retrocast, too.HK

I listened to it like once so yeah. And it looks like he forgot to edit some stuff out. --Steve (talk) 23:38, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, he did. He mentions it in the second episode after this one. HK

Check out the image reqested category. Its soooo full now that I've tagged articles for the last few hours.HK

Crazy. --Steve (talk) 23:46, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

I should probably sleep soon... But I'm having so much fun tagging these articles... but its like 10:47 where I live...HK

If you're even on another podcast make sure you plug the Mario Wiki like there's no tomorrow. :D --Steve (talk) 23:56, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

I'm actually trying to get on this one again. And I most certainly will plug the name. I'll say stuff like, on the Super MArio Wiki it says...." and yeah I forgot plug my site last time, so I need to do that one first. Although I'm not sure if my site is something I want otheres to see.HK

Rollback Feature

How do you use the "reverted changes of ______, changed back to last version by ________"? Wayoshi 19:09, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Well, I go to the contributions of the user who made the edit you want to revert, and rollback there. There's probably an easier way, and I've just missed it. HK

Whoops! I double-reverted Sightings. Thanks for the info, I bet that is the only way. Wayoshi 20:42, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Yes, that was on my talk page. I just wanted to know, is there another way?HK

Yeah. Sysops can go to the history, check the two different versions, click compare selected versions, then rollback. --Steve (talk) 21:53, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Thanks. Like I said, I don't know what I'm doing.HK

Now that's what I like to hear. --Steve (talk) 22:01, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Heh heh.... sorry.HK

Thanks!

I'm very happy that I have been trusted w/ sysop responsibilites. As Son of Suns says, this Wiki is getting better every day. :) Wayoshi 16:21, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

No problem! We appreciate the help. --Steve (talk) 16:22, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

It sure is (getting better)! Thanks for intrusting me with sysopedness..... Uh... thanks. I was an admin at wikipedia, but renounced the power and deleted that account ( right after I attained it). Pretty much I don't know what I'm doing. What are the red "!" for?HK

Those are just there for coolness. Or so I assume. --Steve (talk) 16:32, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Actually, I figured out what they are. They represent unpatrolled articlesHK

Yeah. They sure do. --Steve (talk) 17:29, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

The Portal

Is it okay that I took over the Portal? I also want to know what you think of The 'Shroom, and its first article.HK

Sure that's fine. Others should hopefully help with it. And I guess The 'Shroom is alright. I don't know exactly why we need it, but whatever. --Steve (talk) 15:57, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Well, when Son of Suns left, all I had for guidance was, ugh, wikipedia. So I stayed close to that design as I retyped the code. That's why the 'Shroom is here. You could see its functions here: [1] HK

Hmm I see. I just don't know how often we'll have news to post. --Steve (talk) 16:22, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Well, for now, It doesn't matter. We just need to update it weekly. Or monthly. You choose. I mean, if there's an arbitration thing needed, we could post about it there. (That's an example. Only Wikipedia does pointless stuff like that.)HK

I need some help on one tiny aspect of the portalHK

What's that? --Steve (talk) 22:03, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Getting the shroom to stay small on the trouble center. I can't explain it better than that.....HK

What shroom where? Link? --Steve (talk) 22:18, 24 July 2006 (EDT)
Template:Trouble Center. At Wikipedia there is a little box that links to their newspaper. That requires a template and in an hour, I'll gladly copy the code and modify it for here (so many templates...). Wayoshi 22:23, 24 July 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, you're better off doing it than I. Go for it. --Steve (talk) 22:29, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

Recent Changes

For some reason, the edits I have been making have not been appearing in the Recent Changes section. And when I check my contribs, the recent edits still don't appear. However, you can see the changes in the articles. Hopefully this is just a temporary problem... --Son of Suns 12:01, 30 June 2006 (EDT)

The server clock was ahead 12 hours, so I set it back 12 hours to the correct time. The edits will start showing up on those pages after the current time is after the "future time" when those edits were made. Kind of confusing, but everything will fix itself by the end of today. --Steve (talk) 12:30, 30 June 2006 (EDT)

Donations

When will donations, if ever, be needed? I am certainly willing to do my part when the time arrives. --Son of Suns 01:37, 26 June 2006 (EDT)

Donations are needed now to pay for the monthly cost of the server. It's currently $110 a month but after some necessary upgrades could get as high as $160. The recurring monthly donation is probably one of the best ways to donate, as each month it will give me a break with the cost. I don't think $5 or $10 a month is asking too much, and of course the more people who do it the more it would help. --Steve (talk) 09:15, 26 June 2006 (EDT)

Troll

How do we fix the damage the on wheels! guy did? HK

Never mind. Did it myself!HK

Thanks. I just deleted all the redirect pages. I didn't have time this morning to fix everything. --Steve (talk) 13:31, 18 June 2006 (EDT)

I knew I forgot to do something!HK

Also, what does mean saying hk47 was only contributer? Is that good or bad? Or neither? HK

Doesn't really matter, I guess the history was deleted in the moves. --Steve (talk) 15:56, 18 June 2006 (EDT)

ok cool :) HK

Is this troll using the same ip, or a different one? Can you tell? HK

I don't know. --Steve (talk) 12:03, 19 June 2006 (EDT)
I'll try to find out how...If its even possible....HK
He struck again as Super Mario...it seems he'll get every chance possible to vandalize. -Wayoshi 18:04, 19 June 2006 (EDT)
Im still waiting for meta/mediawiki to answer me. HK
[2] Check the troll, and block all the ips he used...HK

I know the troll hasn't been here in a while, but isn't it a good idea to take some precation?.HK

Okay, so how does that work? --Steve (talk) 15:03, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

[3]First off, see if you're allowed to. In this case, yes, you can. "Where the user has been vandalising articles or persistently behaving in a disruptive way, data may be released to assist in the targetting of IP blocks, or to assist in the formulation of a complaint to relevant Internet Service Providers".

Typical use:

User:Querulous is doing something highly antisocial and abusive in a way that makes you suspect them of being the sockpuppet of a blocked user. You have CheckUser and your wiki policy allows you to look up Querulous.

 1. Go to Special:CheckUser.
 2. In "User:", enter Querulous (not User:Querulous) and click the "OK" button next to it. (It won't work if you just hit Enter!)
 3. You will get back all IPs matching User:Querulous in the recentchanges table.
 4. Look up the IPs using whois and nslookup.
 5. If the previous step doesn't make it futile, click on each of the listed IPs. (You may find it useful to open each IP page in a new window or tab)
 6. Click the "OK" button next to "IP:" in each of the IP windows. This will then list all entries from the recentchanges table for that IP. You now have a list of all usernames that have edited using that IP.
 7. You may then wish to check any new usernames to see if the editing patterns are suspiciously similar.

Something like that..... I don't really know.... HK

But Special:CheckUser doesn't exist on this wiki. Is it an extension or something? --Steve (talk) 15:13, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

I'm not sure... It has some source code here....4.... Does that help?HK

I'm not sure. When I try to install the extension I get errors. Hmm. --Steve (talk) 16:25, 26 July 2006 (EDT)

Gee.... You could contact someone at wikimedia...HK

More Help

We need to restore the ♪ Block page. If you go to the Category: Objects page, what should read as "♪ Block" looks like this "♪ Block". I don't know how to change it back. Take note that someone has created a new ♪ Block page. However, the old one was far superior to the new one. --Son of Suns 20:27, 13 June 2006 (EDT)

Some Trouble

Hey. I've been having trouble uploading images and even creating some articles. Look at the Talk: Main Page and Talk: P$ychopath pages to seem my dilemmas. --Son of Suns 22:47, 11 June 2006 (EDT)

Try the images now. That article problem is really weird, I'll continue trying to find a fix for it. --Steve (talk) 23:42, 11 June 2006 (EDT)

No problem, of course I want the wiki to be running normally. On the new server, certain words are forbidden for security. We've never needed this before, so I'm in the process of removing ones that are just too common. --Steve (talk) 22:57, 12 June 2006 (EDT)

Thanks

Thank you for the "promotion". I will continue to try my best to make the Super Mario Wiki a significant piece of reference for Mario fans. I read the information about sysops and I understand my new responsibilities. Again, thank you. --Son of Suns 09:28, 30 May 2006 (EDT)

No problem. --Steve (talk) 14:45, 30 May 2006 (EDT)

Question About Copyright

Okay, I read Wikipedia's page about fair use, but I still want to be clear on what's a fair use and what's not. Please tell me whether the following things would be okay to display on this wiki:

1. A screeen shot from a game that you took yourself

2. A screen shot from a game you did not take yourself

3. A picture of the game's packaging you took yourself

4. A picture of the game's packaging you did not take yourself

5. A picture of a copyrighted character

6. Images available as downloads from the company's web site

Thank you for your help. --Wanderingshadow

Idea

Idea: Do you think we can make it so only people with accounts can make changes? I've seen other wikis do it and it would cut down on these idiots trying to add adverts.

Better late than ever: We're still in the process of setting up the entire wiki and getting new information in. We could use all the help we can get. If an anonymous user just wants to make a few changes and be on their way, we should let them. The bots get very annoying, but we just need to continue to revert the pages and ban their IP. --Steve (talk) 23:09, 27 Jan 2006 (EST)
I think that would be good. Having anti-nintendo people destroying the wiki would just be strange thing.--Elite Yoshi 16:15, 28 Mar 2006 (EST)Elite Yoshi

What other wikis do is when an anonymous user attempts to edit a page, they must type a visible code in order for their edit to work. Bots can not get past this barrier, but people can. This would stop the bot problem and still allow anonymous editting. SaltyTalk! 22:38, 31 Mar 2006 (EST)

Installing a captcha, you mean. I've looked into them, and will hopefully be able to give one a try. --Steve (talk) 23:36, 31 Mar 2006 (EST)

Hey!

I thought of this! (Sonic here.) I should have sysop access! Remember when I suggested this on the Sonic wiki and you said no? Mario 16:09, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

Oh yeah, you should totally have sysop access! Just look at how much you help out around here! --Steve (talk) 17:18, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
I'm the one who had the idea stolen, so you're right. ;-) (AgentSeethroo has made 2 edits.) I couldn't even make a Mario wiki myself if I'd wanted to, since I'd be accused of impersonating the great Porple. (Another question: Why'd you steal my idea?) Mario 17:40, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
Umm, I didn't "steal" your idea. How can you accuse me of that? How could I have known that you had the same idea as me? And who's the one who made the wiki? I did. I don't see a wiki by you, and if you have one I've never been to it. --Steve (talk) 18:04, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
OK, I actually have an idea. A wiki devoted to all things Nintendo (not just Mario). I think it's a great idea. Mario 17:55, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
Are you going to make it? I might be able to help out. --Steve (talk) 18:00, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
I was wondering if you could host it. (Think of the potential - not just Mario, but Star Fox, Pokemon, etc. as well) Mario 18:07, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
Sorry, no can do. I've got enough going on as it is. --Steve (talk) 18:08, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
You mean like this one, which I actually asked for? (BTW, I've got a friend who may be able to host) Mario 18:10, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

Meh, I don't do much here. But that's good news about the Nintendo Wiki. Seethroo may want it in the network. --Steve (talk) 18:17, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

Also, what happened to the Sonic wiki? Mario 18:13, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

I shut it down. --Steve (talk) 18:17, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

That's too bad, because that's where I asked you about making a Mario wiki. I'm still perplexed as to why you shut off my idea, but turned it on for somebody else. Mario 18:18, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
"Turned it on for somebody else"? What does that mean? --Steve (talk) 18:37, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)
Turned it on for somebody else. Gave the idea to somebody else (AgentSeethroo and Ghost Jam). Mario 18:39, 27 Feb 2006 (EST)

Deletion

Why did you delete genuine characters like Tayce T. Puniper Hoot the Owl and Miss Warp. I understand deleting mr Game&Watch and others but why genuine mario characters. -Threegee

You don't understand. Those pages are blank and are being created by bots, who are filling them up with spam. I'm simple deleting the worthless pages and blocking the bots who are doing this. No actual content is being removed, you're still free to add to the pages. --Steve (talk) 16:04, 25 Mar 2006 (EST)
I was, too, wondering. Then I looked at the second to last edit to one of the "About" pages and saw the huge list of links about, er, non-Mario related stuff someone was putting... Damn bots. Or people with a lot of wasted time on their hands. -DarkInsanity (talk)
Holy hell, man! If this keeps up you should seriously consider enforcing account creation before editing, even if you only keep it like that for a week or two, just to get the spammers to go away. You could put an article on the home page saying why you're enforcing accounts, and what not. But all this deleting seriously needs to stop, as not everyone knows what's going on! -DarkInsanity (talk)
I apologise for not catching these when they where added. Most of them where added about a month ago and I didn't think anything of it. I thought it was just someone who added a page and didn't bother to add content (I do that sometimes). I'll touble check entries as they are added. Also, it might be time to think about account-only editing. -Ghost Jam (talk)
I have not problem with putting up with these for now. We still get useful edits from anonymous users, and since we need so much more content to be added I won't make them register just yet. --Steve (talk) 16:32, 28 Mar 2006 (EST)
Suit yourself, as the amount of it seems to be winding down, anyway. Also, why is it showing that you blocked the same IP multiple times? Is it by design, that it auto-blocks when you delete a page, or vice versa? -DarkInsanity (talk)
That's just me hitting "Block" to every spam edit. Before every spam edit was pretty much by a different IP, but now that I see they're not I guess I can start paying attention to the ones I'm blocking. :/ --Steve (talk) 19:59, 28 Mar 2006 (EST)
Really, give the empty pages and the characters alone unless it has not been seen for a while. There should be some deleting rules before deleting stuff. --Elite Yoshi 14:50, 30 Mar 2006 (EST)Elite Yoshi
It has already been stated before, I'm not deleting actual content. Those pages that I'm deleting are not empty, they're filled with spam links created by bots that troll the wiki. Since those bots create the pages for no reason, they should be deleted to be created when someone is ready to add actual content. Blank pages don't do us any good, there's either content or not. If not, we don't need the pages yet. Feel free to re-create the pages yourself and add content. --Steve (talk) 14:56, 30 Mar 2006 (EST)

I've disabled anonymous editing for now. I'll keep it this way at least until I can get a captcha up. --Steve (talk) 18:23, 5 Apr 2006 (EDT)

Cool; I noticed at first when I tried to edit a page without logging in. This should keep quite a bit of the spamming out from now on. And sorry I haven't been on for awhile; I've been kinda busy with school and whatnot. --DarkInsanity (talk)

Some Guy Taking My Name and Stuff

Well, hate to bug you about this, but Superchao is all worried and stuff. On his wiki, someone said to him "Hey superchao its me, Kelt, you loser" going by the i.p. adress of "205.188.116.14" So, could you possibly find out what member on this wiki owns that i.p.? (If they ARE on this wiki, which is highly possible since they knew that I, Kelt, had talked to Superchao before.) --King Piranha Plant 00:08, 25 October 2006 (EDT)

Sorry, I can't check an IP to get usernames who have used it. If he has any ideas I can check their usernames and see if they have used the IP. He would probably want to do that in private, in which case he could send me an email.
But it looks like they are on this wiki. When I try to check the IP I get an error as opposed to "No Results", so that means the IP has been used. I really need to get that thing fixed. --Steve (talk) 06:56, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
So can you help me? Here's proof. http://dilbert.elwiki.com/Special:Recentchanges Superchao 19:17, 25 October 2006 (EDT)
Yo, not much I can do. If a user does something bad on another wiki it really shouldn't concern me and the IP should be punished there. How do you make those mario and DK banner things on their main pages? I have an Idea for one and want to make and present it to you. WarioLoaf (talk)

Umm I use Flash to make the original image with the background and the alpha text with the site domain and the character, which I make from removing the white from the image with Photoshop and giving it the white shadow in Fireworks, imported into Flash. Then I publish that image and open it with Fireworks where I add the text with shadow. P-S-Y

What are we going to do with pages that their names have P-S-Y in them? There's FloP-S-Y fish and Yoshi ToP-S-Y Turvy!  Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)

Change all the links to Flopsy Fish and Yoshi Topsy Turvy and create the pages with the weird S symbol and include the wrongtitle template. I'll try to get the code for the new pages. In the actual text the s template will be used for every instance so that won't be a problem. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 23:51, 21 November 2006 (EST)

Featured Articles

Earlier, in the BANNER section, WarioLoaf asked about having FA's on the forum, which is a collaboration in itself and definitely would help the wiki by saving "Don't worry about it." Do you think it is a bad idea? It's certainly much better than the awards I mentioned before or the point system Knife suggested, because it adds quality to the wiki. Huh?

Sorry, you're the boss and all, but it seems like Wayoshi is really in charge around here. This is pointless, I know. He kind of runs the newspaper, pretty much everything. Are you more behind the scenes. Or maybe, I'm sure you, a fellow gamer, would understand this, it's like Wayoshi is Birdo in M&L:SS doing everything for a front, and then you're Peach, pardon the example, really hiding behind a curtain making your cronie do most of your work. Or how Lemmy's Land stereotypes Toads. Wayoshi's the Toad. You're Peach. Just an idea. Don't take it personally. You should check out Lemmy's Land, though. I'll leave now. Bye.

JOTA

On January 9th, I blocked a user named JOTA indefinetly for erasing comments on the Featured Articles page. As it turns out, a glitch was causing the comments to be erased. However, no one realized this at the time of the block. I would not have blocked the user for so long had he not erased comments on his own will and place "Bowser" all over the page (and in the list of featured articles) on January 2nd. I recently unblocked him and left an apology and a warning on his talk page. Three More Extensions

 1. Disable editing of User pages by other users. That is, each user can only edit his or her page and no other. Sysops still can edit all pages.
 2. Top Contributors Overall. What we were looking for in UserScore. Not sure whether this can be restricted to sysops or not – might want to reconsider if it can't be restricted.
 3. Multi-File Upload. I'm pretty sure you can get rid of the "AWC" in the Special page title.

Even though these were created a few months ago for MediaWiki 1.5.x, they should still be fine now. There's a few things about customizing and notes for the last two, so check those out. Unrelated: Check under Sysop Discussion on the forum. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 20:50, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Maybe the first one. I really don't see a point to the second one. Don't know if we need third one either. These things can be annoying so unless we really need one I won't want to install it. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:59, 12 February 2007 (EST)
OK, I can see the uselessness in #2. But we have users uploading a lot of images at once all the time. Doing it in one load would save time for them. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 21:04, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Autoconfirming the Move Feature

Via Special:Userrights, can you autoconfirm the ability to move articles? This will restrict new users under 4 days old from moving pages, making the recent serious vandalism attacks harder to make. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 22:53, 17 February 2007 (EST)

You could also add this in LocalSettings.php:
$wgGroupPermissions['autoconfirmed']['move'] = false;

Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 22:57, 17 February 2007 (EST)

How do you know this? --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 23:40, 17 February 2007 (EST)
[6] – lists default user groups and rights. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 23:43, 17 February 2007 (EST)
Such a thing cannot be done through Special:Userrights and your code is bogus. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 00:00, 18 February 2007 (EST)
That's true (my mistake before) – but notice when I added the code, I said it should be added to LocalSettings.php. The $wg stuff all goes there. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 00:04, 18 February 2007 (EST)
I'm well aware where it goes, and it doesn't work. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 00:10, 18 February 2007 (EST)
Are you sure? [7] proves I used the right syntax. Autoconfirm is new users for protecting, is that different here? Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 00:17, 18 February 2007 (EST)
The correct code is:
 $wgAutoConfirmAge = 3600*96;
 $wgGroupPermissions['user']['move'] = false;
 $wgGroupPermissions['autoconfirmed']['move'] = true;

Because a user is considered autoconfirmed after the AutoConfirmAge time passes (in seconds), so you must block users from moving pages (because you're considerer a user the second you create an account) and only allow autoconfirmed users. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 00:54, 18 February 2007 (EST)

Idea: Shortcuts

Just running an idea through ya about the use of shortcuts. Wikipedia creates redirects to all its policies by using WP:Whatever (WP:NOT for what Wikipedia is not, WP:BLOCK for blocking policy, etc). Sometimes there's more than one shortcut for a page. This makes it easy for everyone to check these special pages for reference or for newbies to learn the rules. The redirect pages would be categorized into one category, and a quick page like MarioWiki:Shortcuts would describe what they're for and how to categorize properly ( is needed). Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 17:26, 18 February 2007 (EST)

That's a good idea. You can get it going if you want to. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 17:33, 18 February 2007 (EST)

MarioWiki:RareWiki Vote

As shown, we are now voting to determine the direction we're taking. One of the options is joining up with DKVine to create a RareWiki. Son of Suns has contacted the site about the issue. Son of Suns is going off AIM at 12:25, so you can come on to talk about the issue if you see this message relatively before then. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 23:56, 20 February 2007 (EST)

I'm not interested in creating any more wikis, so keeping the articles and adding the template would be the best move. I don't want to join with DKVine either. We should both just do our own thing. Can't talk about it on AIM tonight. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 00:05, 21 February 2007 (EST)
What if we just create it without any DKVine interaction at all and DKVine users would be attracted anyways? Is that still offsetting? Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 00:38, 21 February 2007 (EST)
Yeah, pretty much we just need permission from you to transfer articles from this wiki onto our wiki. Thats all, no work for you.Knife (talk) 00:42, 21 February 2007 (EST)
What wiki? There's no RareWiki yet. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 00:44, 21 February 2007 (EST)
YetKnife (talk) 00:46, 21 February 2007 (EST)
"we just need permission from you to transfer articles from this wiki onto our wiki" If DKVine is creating a wiki why is there a need for interaction from us? If they did create one we would have nothing to do with it, so we would keep the articles and include that template, so then both wikis would have the same articles. The articles should be written from a different perspective anyway: ours from a perspective of the character in the marioverse and theirs more general.
We could possibly create the wiki. I wouldn't even mind if it was considered a team up if we were in control of the hosting. I was concerned about the workload but I know you guys would cover most of it. So either:

a. They create the wiki on their own and of course our members can help out and whatnot but not directly transferring articles.

b. We team up on it and we'll host the wiki.

c. We'll do the wiki alone and it won't be an official joint thing but they can help obviously.

d. NOTHING

I haven't heard anything from them so I need to know what their expectations are. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 01:17, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Well in the meantime...I have submitted a request to Wikia to start the RareWiki. Entirely a different entity from the MarioWiki, no Wiki Alliance. If that goes through, all we would need from you is the permission to move articles out. The Banjo & Conker board could go and never be heard of again as well. I would just put a link to it. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 01:22, 21 February 2007 (EST)

If they're separate entities we would keep the articles and not transfer them. The board could stay as well. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 01:41, 21 February 2007 (EST)

I think the point is that many users feel Banjo and Conker are out of place and this wiki, and should be moved anyway, regardless of who is hosting the site. They are simply too removed from Mario's universe. We could just delete all the content, and if a wiki never emerges, the consensus may be just to erase all those articles without any move. -- Son of Suns

I think C. is the best choice. I disagree with just deleting articles, some users worked pretty hard to write them. At this point, we don't need an official alliance with DKVine. But then again, this all depends if we get permission from Wikia to host it. This would be at no cost or workload to anybody, and is a fair solution. Being part of the Wiki Alliance (if we still have that)... well all in all thats your decision.Knife (talk) 18:14, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Personally, I like D. All in one Wiki. Cool.   3D, VERY active!

Remember that this wiki abides by the Marioverse. Banjo & Conker are barely in the Marioverse. RareWiki, which I have requested, will satisfy Choice C. Maybe we can move articles over to get a jumpstart on mainspace articles. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 18:25, 21 February 2007 (EST)

Hold on a minute, we may team up with DKVine? By the way, nice proposal Wayoshi. --Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Little Colored Numbers

Are we going to get that...whatever it is that makes articles on the changes page have a little number telling how much was added/subtracted to a page per edit? Not that it's really needed.... --  Chris  18:01, 5 March 2007 (EST)

Eh... --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:37, 5 March 2007 (EST)
A) Clarification: the number tells how many bytes were added or subtracted to the file size of the article. B) At a certain point, extreme numbers turn bold. This is used to signal possible vandalism in the negatives. C) We've got vandalism covered – it isn't daily like Wikipedia. • Hey, how come you never get on the Homestar Runner Wiki anymore? You got an sbemail answered! Come back! The edit summaries miss you! --Theyellowdart 22:16, 8 March 2007 (EST) P.S. I got the link to this wiki by your userpage at the hrwiki.
I still visit the site, but I was never big on the editing scene there. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 22:25, 8 March 2007 (EST)
Oh. That's cool. Man, that place (hrwiki) has grown like heck! See you around, I'm off to go gnome some pages. --Theyellowdart 22:27, 8 March 2007 (EST)
BTW, what e-mail was answered?   3D, BRB, BTB, BTW.
"montage". Hm... where have I heard that name before...? You watch Homestar? Join the wiki!! --Theyellowdart 22:35, 8 March 2007 (EST)
Cool.   3D, I may join.... maybe.....
No offense to this wiki, but I think that the Homestar Runner Wiki is the most organized, content-full, and community-ish sister wiki to this date. The sysops there are so smart. --Theyellowdart 22:54, 8 March 2007 (EST)
Never really been there.. but it looks really, really cool. And the pages are sooooo awesome. Shall we move this to my talk page?   3D, to avoid clogging up Steve's page.

My best friend and I am there too, I'm Munchlax and he's SpazzingWonder.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Neat. Okay, 3D, move it if you want. --Theyellowdart 23:27, 9 March 2007 (EST)

I think it would be very helpful if there was a Special Page for most viewed pages. A wondering fan of Yoshi

There already is one: Special:Statistics. --KPH2293 12:43, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

An Issue on Talk:Main Page

An issue has come up since this morning's vandal attack. Just letting you know. --KPH2293 17:30, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

Hilarity ensued.HK47, .

We need a verdict, possible sysop cut-off, or a poll.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

So there was some vandalism and we need some more sysops? Who would you suggest? --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:29, 17 March 2007 (EDT)
YellowYoshi or 3Dejong.HK47, .

Yoshi626 for sure. But I have an idea, on the talk page, we'll start polls where people nominate users and then everyone else votes on them. The MarioWiki democracy.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

So, Steve, just to make sure; Do you give your official approval on this? --KPH2293 13:34, 18 March 2007 (EDT)
Sure. Just remember bureaucrats will always have the final word. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 14:33, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Yep, I just wanted to see who sysops and normal users alike want to see be promoted.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Suprisingly, nothing has spiralled out of control yet. Yoshi626, YellowYoshi398, and I haveall been nominated. Yoshi626 has 8, YY398 has 3, and I have 2.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Make that nine for me. --KPH2293 17:31, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

How long will the poll be open?  Plumber, I want to know, please, Big Boss.

We need you to post some votes on the MarioWiki:Sysophood Nominations page.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Mariowiki Party

Hey steve you know I was thinking that one day you could arrange a date where we could all meet each other in a specific place(Although I know this would never happen).F g

Would be cool, yeah, probably won't ever happen. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:29, 17 March 2007 (EDT)
What abotu a date when everyone goes to forum chat?  Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)

not everyone's on the forum. Max2 (talk)

We need a regular weekly time for that. And the chat isn't only accessible through the forum; you can use an IRC client as well. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:16, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

Anti-Spam

Hi Porple/boss man, :)

After yesterday;s violent spam attack I was thinking...aside from a couple more sysops, should we have a Counter Spam Group? I was thinking of them having the power To block a spammer for 24 hours (or until a sysop can handle the situation.

Maybe consist of ten VERY Active members, I mean it would help since yesterday morning a 'Tonya Logan' was spamming and a sysop didn't get on for a while, please think about it...

 XzelionETC

I can't limit the amount of time a certain group is allowed to ban people for, so this group would essentially be sysops. So instead we're going to get some more active sysops on board to better our coverage in the event of an attack. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:07, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

so you're saying that we definitely need more sysops?F g

That's what I've been hearing. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:17, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Hey steve what do you think of me becoming a sysop?Cause I'm here in this wiki everyday.F g

You're certainly active enough. Remember, we'll let you know if you're selected. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 19:38, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

New inproved sysop polls

I just thought of something, since the sysop polls didn't work, instead of just voting, users will ask the nominee important, sysop-related, questions. Hey, it's just a thought.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

No, no. This isn't a game show. We get a pretty good idea of who's sysop worthy by a user's actions on the wiki. We'll make sure that user knows the ins and outs of being a sysop if they're chosen. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:48, 19 March 2007 (EDT)

Some stuff...

 1. How did you get the mario head on the catgory box thing?
 2. How did you get Peach,Mario and Luigi on the edit box?

Toadbert101 01:34, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

You add a background image through the CSS. So for the edit box you would do something like:
textarea { background: #FFFFFF url("URL TO IMAGE")
}
And with the category box we have:
#catlinks {
 background-image: url(URL TO IMAGE);
 background-repeat: no-repeat;
 background-position: center right;
}

--Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 15:32, 21 March 2007 (EDT)

How do you get to the CSS?Toadbert101 18:11, 21 March 2007 (EDT)
If we're talking MediaWiki, the easiest way is to edit MediaWiki:Monobook.css and add the code. Where are you trying to do this? --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:30, 21 March 2007 (EDT)
A bionicle wiki called Bioniclepedia. It wikia.Toadbert101 15:18, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
So add the code to the MediaWiki:Monobook.css page on the wiki. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 20:08, 24 March 2007 (EDT)
