However, note the points made by FlameChomp and I in said proposal that kind of demolish the whole idea, particularly as the proposer failed to address them. Especially what TFC said, that's just impossible to work around without putting "infinite" (which also demolishes the whole thing). Background Color of Walkazo's Message

Ok, first of all, I apologize if this talk page goes over 50 sections. Secondly, I'd like to know how the yellow background for Walkazo's Message is "way too bright". The words are still readable, so I'm not too sure how the brightness is a problem. Some clarification is appreciated. Mari0fan100 (talk) 20:35, 21 February 2019 (EST)

Mama Luigi quote

Hello, regarding the quote "On the ceiling! You see that block up there? You bash it Luigi! You're taller!" there is not a comma in the sentence. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 07:43, 24 February 2019 (EST)

What I meant with there being no comma is that there is no pause, grammatically incorrect or not, so it would require the {{sic}} template instead due to saying that he uses a comma and thus pauses in his sentence would be incorrect. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 07:53, 24 February 2019 (EST)
My mistake then, so my apologies. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 19:05, 24 February 2019 (EST)

Revisiting thorny flower

Some things have come up on the thorny flower talk page that give credence to the naming proposal, but in summary...

  1. There are three other known names from English guides, so "thistle" is not a one-off thing, and like thorny flower, all are generic lowercase descriptors (which tend to only be used as article titles if they are consistent, but here, it changes all the time on the writer's whim).
  2. There are two different Japanese names that refer to the same thing in the Super Mario Galaxy games and Super Mario 3D Land, and while they seem less generic, even they have an inconsistency there.
  3. There is one internal name in plain English which is the closest it has to a proper name, and it is at least identical between the Super Mario Galaxy games and Super Mario 3D Land.

Concerning validity of the original proposal, we've had proposals go around naming policy in the past (and sometimes without), so I'm asking for permission to reopen the proposal with the current options. LinkTheLefty (talk) 05:15, 1 March 2019 (EST)

It does? I didn't see it before, so I was planning on Big Thorny Flower being affected by the decision, but it being called by the name "giant prickly plant" could complicate that idea...or the Big Thorny Flower article could potentially merge, considering Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. doesn't give a separate entry to them or the air variant (which we also don't have). Anyway, I don't see a separate mention in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 guide. I'll get the proposal up later with multiple choice, thanks. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:55, 1 March 2019 (EST)
I'd be alright with Big Thorny Flower being merged as well. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 09:13, 1 March 2019 (EST)

Nut

Hi, I just now checked my New Super Mario Bros. U Prima guide, and Bolt Lifts actually are renamed Nuts in said guide despite both names being used in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia. Fruit

Speaking of Berries, a lot of more recent sources call these things "Fruits", even Super Mario Odyssey in-game (see Mushroom Kingdom Power Moon #13 and the Mushroom Kingdom brochure). However, there is already a Fruit page, so with that said...which one takes proirity, or should the existing Fruit page be deleted as being too generic, or should something else happen? List of errors in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia that are not from the Super Mario Wiki approval

Hello, may I use the scans of the errors in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia for the List of errors in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia that are not from the Super Mario Wiki as seen on my sandbox? These would be the only places were the image would be used. Also, may the List of errors in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia that are not from the Super Mario Wiki be a page to document the book's mistakes without it cluttering the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia page? It would preferably be List of errors in the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia that includes LinkTheLefty's list, if he allows me to include his list. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 11:48, 4 March 2019 (EST)

For reference, I've mentioned it on the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia talk page here. I was originally fishing for feedback on whether a version of it should be a section of the article. Though my intent was for my list to be a separate one since it has a very specific purpose to it (being relevant to the wiki controversy). LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:59, 4 March 2019 (EST)
The admins have agreed to permit the inclusion of the lists as sections to the SMBE page, but they may be given separate pages if they end up being too long. While LinkTheLefty's list seems fine, I'm not sure a few of those in Doomhiker's would count as "errors":
  • I think the use of "GameCube" is excusable considering it's the term most often used to refer to the system (as opposed to simply "64"), and not really what I'd consider an error. Does the book use "Wii" or "Nintendo Wii"?
  • Red Coins have been lowercase in a few games, including SM64DS.
  • It's also been pointed out that names not taken from fandom like Bull's Eye Banzai and Mid-Point Bell are likely just updated translations of the Japanese names (which you acknowledged for a number of them), and shouldn't be counted as errors.
The scans are fine. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:12, 5 March 2019 (EST)

Mario Kun - Link to Mario Golf

Hi, thank you for changing the link to lead directly to the Mario Golf page. Reading the manga again, I just noticed that the chapter in fact references a Game Boy game, so it seems like the story was used to promote the release of Mario Golf for the Game Boy Color in 1999.

Shiny Crown fragments

Hi, does the eShop or anywhere else official mention anything about the "Crown Capture"/"Boo Spotting" levels in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker? I'm just wondering because I haven't found any official name for the "fragments" found in the "Crown Capture" levels; not in-game, not on the game's official website, nothing. And even though they also appear in the Nintendo Minute segment dedicated to the game's DLC, neither Kit nor Krysta refer to these items by name. Naming question

One question about naming: since the transformed Peach's Castle in Partners in Time is inconsistently named "Shroob Castle" in at least one in-game quote and "Peach's Castle (Past)" in both an in-game map screen and a guide, which would take priority? Mockup sprites

So I saw some things, notably the 10-gold coin, not be allowed due to being mockups. I question this due to the fact that the pixel location is known and the palette is more than likely going to be the same as the one in the first SMM, meaning that all aspects are known. This also applies to the SMW early sprites that aren't in the final cartridge (such as small-snouted Yoshi), as their palette would be the same as the SMW palette in the final, meaning their all parameters are known for certain. I know that there are cases like the early attempts at getting the SMM costume sprites, but this is a lot more clear-cut than that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:51, March 26, 2019 (EDT)

That still doesn't answer the one about the SMW thing, as that final game was released ages ago and the palette isn't just "more than likely" known, it's "definitively" known. They are no less valid than unused sprites ripped from an emulator. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:22, March 26, 2019 (EDT)
Except it was from the game. An early version of the game, it was just overwritten. Therefore, it is just as valid as the scan they provided, as well as any pre-release screenshot, as the content of them is equally-overwritten. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:08, March 27, 2019 (EDT)
I fail to see how it would be misleading in any manner as long as it were specified in any context it was transcluded. Prohibiting the SMW sprites as a whole when every specification of them is known for an objective fact seems silly. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:59, March 27, 2019 (EDT)

Since you recently uploaded the DK, Diddy and Bob-omb 2D artwork. Do you have a chance to extract and upload the rest, as most artwork are non-shaded versions? No, I haven't been able to pick it up just yet, though I do plan on getting hold of it soon, likely by the end of the month. I'm aware of the brands in there (I've already added some information about the reappearing Mario Kart sponsors to their page), and it was actually something I was considering doing, seeing as a lot of them contain references and are quite frequently appearing from the trailers I've seen. Sliding Punch

Actually no, it's not just capitalized due to being a header. Two pages back, under the exact same heading style, is "Enter pipes," where "pipe" is lowercase, meaning the capitalization in that instance was definitely intentional. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:09, April 8, 2019 (EDT)

Well when you say "all headers" when all headers visibly don't do that, it comes off as rather condescending itself IMO. If not a tad dishonest, which is worse. As for why I said it in three places, it was so there'd be no chance anyone could miss my reasoning and revert. Anyways, I apologize, today has been rather excruciating for me, especially considering the temperatures suddenly hit "unbearably sweat-your-pants-off hot" out of nowhere where I live, and my mortal enemy the wasp is starting to emerge again. Nerdnick

While certainly a coincidence, since it's still franchise-relevant, can the similarities not be noted? It's not like it's saying he's similar to someone from some unrelated media. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:32, April 13, 2019 (EDT)

E. Gadd's more like Boomhauer of King of the Hill, except with Japanese, ie it's mostly unintellegible with the occasional actual word ("Luigi" or "Oyama," itself nearly pokemon speak). Most of what he says is literally "yabble yabble." There's also the whole "invented something for Koopa/Bowser's side which is taken down by what amounts to a foil of that device which he also invented" thing. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:52, April 13, 2019 (EDT)
With the last part I'm referring to how Koopa's Robo Suit and the Magic Brush were both invented by the respective scientist and used by the villains, and the Plumbinator and FLUDD (also invented by the respective scientist) were each used to defeat them. When I said "foil," a "Mario" inspired thing is automatically a foil to a "Bowser" inspired thing, while a water-sprayer is a foil to a graffiti-maker. Anyways, while it's true that E. Gadd's speech is understood by the characters in-universe, it's still unintelligible vocally, which admittedly is common in both video games for space reasons and in comedy as a trope, but it still seems notable enough a coincidence to have a combination of that many character traits at once happen within the same franchise multiple times.
