OGG Files

I noticed two things about OGG files:

  • Seldom use here
  • Potential copyright infringement, even moreso than image uploads, such as screenshots, sprite rips, etc.

Should the below be deleted to force them out of Special:UnusedFiles or can they be used somewhere? Normally, if it were an unused image, I would find a way to repurpose it, find the image that replaced it so that way {{delete}} can be used, or tag as {{delete-request}} to generate discussion on iffy deletion. Since these are audio and video files going unused, I am very hesitant these should be used in MarioWiki articles. Copyright is a tricky subject. Image ripping

I managed to find a website that shows pictures of all barrel types in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast's instruction manual here as well as a Zinger and a Necky, but I don't know how to rip them as they are saved as pdf's. about the Vivian screenshots

Beldam calls Vivian otoko ("a man") in the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
The drawback is that dialogue boxes are closed too quickly in a TAS, and you have to get suboptimal screenshots like this sometimes.

Hi. I saw that you are requesting a better version of File:PMTTYD Beldam NA Insult.png on Wildgoose's talk page. If it is not possible/feasible to take one from screenshot, it is possible to obtain one from the official encodes (that is, movie files generated by emulators) on tasvideos.org. They have a TAS for the English version of PMTTYD [1] and one for Japanese [2], so a lot of emulator-quality screenshots can be taken from these encodes, if you don't want to play the game again. First of all, props for those Wario World screenshots; since I'm not capable of uploading anything but Youtube screenshots for Gamecube games, your high quality versions are definitely appreciated. My position hasn't changed much: the article still has tense issues and the images still have aliasing issues. I'm not a fan of the table colours, either: they don't do a particularly good job of masking the aliasing, and the darker colour of the headers make it hard to read the black text. Unofficial transparent images

Would it be alright if I give an image(s) a transparent background myself or no? I'm not sure what the standing is on unofficial transparency. Deletion Reason

I think it would be courteous to link to them, especially if they are linked on a user page that only sysops and the owner of the page can edit. I wish I could edit the pages only for the purpose of changing to the replacement image because my replacements are most likely near-identical because I try to match as close as possible to the original upload. Deleting Bestiary Leftovers

Luigi's Scuttle ability.
Another good instance of using a GIF.

Due to a recent proposal that passed, bestiaries and infoboxes became more streamlined, resulting in a few GIFs going into Special:UnusedFiles. You deleted the unused ones that MediaWiki detected. That's fine, but there are more that were missed because they are being used on userpages. User:Wildgoosespeeder/DeleteThese - Just go through these and delete the ones that match the PNG static frame. I'm not a big fan of having that. Keep it simple and more manageable. Some animations take away from the article, such as Cackletta and Cackletta's laughing sprite from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and that wasn't being used anywhere in main articles or galleries. File:Sm64ds luigi scuttle.png was replaced by the GIF I linked to. The GIF demonstrated better Luigi's jump attribute. Those kinds of GIFs shouldn't be deleted. Well, it looks like things need to get restored because a proposal was in favor of restoring deletions. User:Wildgoosespeeder/DeleteThese are for easy restorations but check your your delete log to get remaining. Actually I have seen that image in Special:UnusedFiles for some time now and was never really sure if it was an officially licensed Nintendo product. Also, I remember seeing other variations for Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, but not uploaded to the Wiki. That's why I was hesitant to link it. There's a lot of these, and you have to move each of these to this naming scheme:

Example: MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Yoshi (series)

You have to remove the /Archive/ bracket and change the /A/ to /N1/ or whatever number in these nominations

I'm trying to work on creating an archive page for past featured nominations and those inconsistent, current article names get in the way of my work. I would have moved them myself except they are protect so only staff members can move this. Wow, you took care of that pretty quickly! I have another request for you: could you remove Category:FA failure archives from the bottom of MarioWiki:Featured articles/N1/Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour? The category is redundant to Template:FANOMFAIL's addition of the same category, and consequently prevents the archive from displaying alphabetically in the category. Thanks! Super Mario Challenge

Thanks for helping me out with uploading the images. I noticed that you made some changes to the pages like moving the challenges near the course layout and removing items. The removing of items has one flaw, the links to the items are now gone. I am thinking about going through to make sure everything is linked, but that won't happened until. Now, I got some questions.

  1. How are you getting the images?
  2. You seem to have uploaded several today. I won't be able to create articles as fast as you are getting the images. Although, it wouldn't take very to upload them, anyways. Are you going to be adding images for all worlds I created? Or are you going to add all the images? What are you planning to do with the images if I don't have the articles created for them?
  3. Which design from this do you think I should have on the wiki? Where should I put Super Mario Challenge? On its own article or on Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS?

Policy regarding file names

A user moved Unagi.png to File:Maw-Ray.png despite the name working, that being the name they used in that game, and furthermore, didn't even fix any of the links. What is the policy regarding moving images that have names that already work? Mario Party 10 Wario Render

Hello, I notice you had uploaded a hi-res pic or two for Mario Party 10. I was curious to know if you have sources and can by chance find and update this Wario render from Mario Party 10 with the official highest-res piece you can find? It's a new render of the same pose from Mario Party 7. (You can easily tell because the new render has depth to the 'W' on his hat.) It looks like that new render was also used in Mario Tennis Open and probably originally used in Mario Kart Wii. (Although that linked Mario Kart Wii pic is lo-res, in this different Mario Kart Wii pic, you can tell there's depth to the 'W' on his hat leading me to believe those are the new renders. It looks like Mario Party 8 in 2007 was the first game to feature the new rendering style for Wario with that extra detail on his hat. (Boy they really like to reuse renders for the Mario Party and Sports games!) But yeah, I'd really like to see that specific one in featured in Mario Party 10 in hi-res. Having an issue with a user

Back in December I put together a proposal (seen here) to give the Nintendo Switch buttons more contrast in their colors, opposed to the actual appearance of the buttons, due to being difficult to make out on some screens. I suggested that Woodchuck (talk) would be the one to make this change, as they made the buttons, though I did not speak to them prior to the proposal. After it passed, I made a few attempts speaking to Woodchuck about making the desired changes, to which I received minimal response, only a confirmation that they still have the files and that they would do it. However The changes were never made, they had a temporary ban, and have yet to respond to my messages since they've come back. I'm asking if you can step in and get a response out of Woodchuck. High-quality screenshots

Hi. When a user asked you how you take screenshots from various games, you responded that you actually use YouTube. I therefore assume you took screenshots for the areas in Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem from gameplay videos. Thing is, they look so high-quality! I'd say genuine quality. Can you help me out with a screenshot I took from a video? It doesn't have the best quality, having used youtubescreenshots.com where you can't change the quality of the video. Are you taking the TTYD screenshots yourself? If so, I found the resolution for that game to be 608x480. Your submissions are off just by a few pixels. In that case, Tuff should be deleted as well. As, it too was to fill in a red link, even though it wasn't known as a red link until day of creation. Although, once I get to Websterite and Tuff, I will be able to recreate them.
Another thing, the first place the stub template links to (formula) says that articles created as stubs have a week until something happens to it (expand the article, merge with another, delete the article, or (if all three options are not possible at all) remove stub template). Hi, not that your recent deletions lacked any merit, but I'm concerned that you rushed to delete two "stubs", even though effort was put into them. Peach's Castle (golf course) I can probably understand, but Websterite actually had as much effort put into it as possible! Remember, stubs are only articles that lack significant information; stub = short, but short ≠ stub. In the future, I recommend you judge whether a short article has effort put into it before deleting it as a stub. Thanks!
