Userspace

Dear Captain Toad,

It has come to our attention that you are currently in violation of the userspace policy. Please review the policy and abide by it, or else a warning will be issued. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please try to edit some actual articles as well. Also, try to use the Show Preview button before saving your changes so you don't have to make ten edits in a row. Thanks, and keep contributing. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:44, 27 January 2016 (EST)

Yes, I will try to edit more other pages it's just that i was trying to get started by creating my user page and stuff like that. And I was experimenting with stuff like the page color and fonts. Thanks for the notice and i will try to make Super Mario Wiki a great place. Captain Toad (talk) 20:23, 27 January 2016 (EST)

If you're extremely concerned about keeping your edit count on userspace low but want to continue experimenting with wiki format, you can always head over to our sandbox. And if you have any questions on how to format or other wiki-syntax-related things, don't be afraid to ask for help! Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:55, 27 January 2016 (EST)

OK I will go to the sandbox but if I have a question where should I put it? Captain Toad (talk) 21:06, 27 January 2016 (EST)

You can check our FAQ, but if your question isn't answered, you can ask on the FAQ talk page or directly contact users like me. By the way, check our own site notices to format your signature; it should show up as {{User:Captain Toad/sig}} when you're directly editing. Finally, before you edit, make sure you use the "Show preview" button so you don't have to make repeated consecutive edits. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. {{aboutfile}}

Hello, Captain Toad. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the {{aboutfile}} template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded coding is shown below.

{{aboutfile
|1=Subject of the image
|2=Where you found the image
|3=Artist
|4=Describe edits, if any
|5=Other versions (use file link)
}}

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line of the variable(s) you don't use. If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using {{aboutfile}} incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

I think you are allowed to not use the template at all if you do so choose. I have done that when {{aboutfile}} isn't really necessary. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:23, 30 January 2016 (EST)

OK, thanks for bringing that to my attention I didn't know it was important. Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 07:54, 31 January 2016 (EST)
You can also remove unused numbers, like so:
{{aboutfile|1=Captain Toad's mii|2=created a picture on the wii u|3=me}}
There is also the {{user}} template so you don't have to use me. Usage: {{user|Captain Toad}} produces Captain Toad (talk). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:08, 1 February 2016 (EST)

Personal Images

I'm going to take a guess here that the two recent images you uploaded (File:HAA 0001.JPG and File:HAA 0003 (2).JPG) are personal images. Tag them appropriately. MarioWiki:Personal images for more details. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:03, 1 February 2016 (EST)

I'm a little confused, what do I do? Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 08:00, 2 February 2016 (EST)
Just add {{personal-image}} to the two files I suspect are personal images. Specify your name like so: {{personal-image|Captain Toad}}. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:05, 2 February 2016 (EST)
I'm still confused where in the text should I put it? Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 18:09, 2 February 2016 (EST)
You can put it anywhere. You can even remove {{aboutfile}} if you want and put it in place of {{personal-image}}. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:17, 2 February 2016 (EST)
Is this correct? Here? Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 09:19, 3 February 2016 (EST)
No, you need to put the template in the image file. Click on the links in the image file Wildgoosespeeder linked you (such as File:HAA 0001.JPG), edit the page, add the template there. Since someone already did it, you don't need to do it, but keep it in mind for the future. You don't need the template in your userpage, though! Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. I think I get it now, all i have to do is when I uploaded it I should have put that in there. got it. Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 15:33, 3 February 2016 (EST)

Reminder

Please stop excessively editing User namespace on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

I understand it's part of being new, but your User and User talk edits are more than half your edits. You can get ideas on how to edit the wiki here or here. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:54, 3 February 2016 (EST)

Alright I'm sorry, I really was just doing it because I was getting started. again I'm sorry and I'll start working on other main pages right away. Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 15:58, 3 February 2016 (EST)

Alright just where should I ask you? Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 16:02, 3 February 2016 (EST)
You can either ask me on this section (since I'm already commenting here), on drop me a line on my talk page. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:16, 3 February 2016 (EST)

File Naming

File:Here is a red link image to get the name right before uploading.png
Don't upload to this specific red link. This is a demonstration.

I noticed that a few files you have uploaded were badly named and other editors had to fix it. Please review MarioWiki:Image use policy. If you want to know a trick to name the file before it exists on MarioWiki, you can insert the markup first and then upload the image by clicking on the red link it will generate. When the page that had the redlink is refreshed after uploading, the image will appear automatically. I use this trick almost all the time. Hope this helps. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:31, 6 February 2016 (EST)

Gliders

The page(s) you recently created (Gliders) has/have been put up for deletion, has been deleted, or turned into a redirect. This may be because it violated at least one of the policies and/or guidelines of the Super Mario Wiki. There are some things you can do to ensure this doesn't happen again.
  1. Make sure there is no other article about the same subject with a different title, especially for conjectural articles.
  2. Make sure the article has enough information to make it a worthwhile read (i.e. it does more than state the obvious, such as "Luigi's Mansion is a mansion that is owned by Luigi"). Overly short articles are known as stubs and their creation is strongly discouraged; it is better to amass enough information to make a solid article right off the bat instead.
  3. Make sure the article is significant enough in the Super Mario franchise to have its own article.

If the article has only been tagged to be deleted you can still fix or expand it, but an administrator may delete it at any time, so please act quickly. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing!

I don't know if you're aware (and if you weren't, how you were unaware), but there's already an article named Glider, without the plural... Wolf Link costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC

I REALLY didn't know that there was already a page about gliders I must have only searched "Gliders". So you can delete it whenever you like but I Really had NO idea. Sorry Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 07:22, 7 February 2016 (EST)

Re: Your sig

Hi! My sig uses the current date in a switch to determine what to display. You can view the source code of it any time to see how it works, but here's a summary.

{{#switch:{{CURRENTDAY}}-{{CURRENTMONTH}}
|#default=it's me
|1-1=it's New Year
|21-6=it's summer
|31-12=it's New Years eve
}}

The top line is the start of the switch, which contains the date. #default is used if the date doesn't match the specified ones underneath it.
Following lines each contain a date and the text to be shown on that date. The date is formatted as dd-mm, in numbers and without leading zeroes.
Note the | and = characters, those are required as that is part of the switch.
You can place pretty much everything in every sig you want. Mine has different colours and greets for example.

I hope this helped you out :) Good luck! Lakituthequick.png Lakituthequick 13:02, 23 March 2016 (EDT)

Just be sure to use File:SMM funny death.gif somewhere on your userpage. If you don't, it will appear Special:UnusedFiles and may have its tag be changed to {{personal-image-abandoned}}. Also, you have one more slot open for a personal image as far as I can tell. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:19, 29 July 2016 (EDT)

I'm going to, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. How long do I have? --Captain Toad, in Super Mario Maker. Captain Toad A Captain Toad sprite 12:41, 30 July 2016 (EDT)
Doesn't matter now because it is linked. I don't think there is a duration. It can just happen. I've tagged a few abandoned images in Special:UnusedFiles attempting to clear it out. If a user notices a personal image deletion that they didn't want to happen, they can just ask a sysop for it to be restored. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:51, 1 August 2016 (EDT)
