Triple Jump is a Field Athletics Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. It is set in the National Stadium. The objective of the event is to reach the furthest distance possible using three jumps. Dr. Eggman can be seen competing in tis event in the game's opening, with Toad as a referee. The starting world record for this event is 18.29m, while the starting Olympic record is 18.09m. Lakitu, Cream and Charmy also appear as referees in this event.

Gameplay

This event starts with the athlete introduction, where the announcer calls out the number of the try and the character's name, before the game prompts the player to swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk towards and away from each other in a clapping motion. Tis causes the character to clap and appeal to the audience, which will allow them to jump further. This can be skipped by pressing the A Button, which also has to pressed to begin the event. The player must then shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuk up and down alternately to start running, with the speed at which the character runs determined by how fast the player shakes the controllers. After a while, the speed will be locked and the player can prepare to make their jumps. As they approach the takeoff board, the player must swing the Wii Remote upwards to perform their first jump, the Nunchuk upwards to perform their second and their Wii Remote again to make the third. How hard the player swung is indicated by three meters on the screen, which each show the power of the jump and give a "Great" rating for perfect swings, a "Good" rating for fairly good jumps and a "Bad" rating for swings that are too hard or soft. If the player crosses the foul line before the first jump or fails to make any of the three, the attempt will be marked as a foul and no distance will be recorded. The distance of the jump is based on whether the player appealed to the audience, running speed, jump power and distance before the takeoff line of the first jump. After landing their jump, the player is told the distance they achieved and is shown how close to the takeoff line they were for their jump. The player has three attempts for this event, with the best of the three being the on that decides their placement.

Controls

  • This event uses the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk.
  • In this event you'll run to build up speed and then jump three times for maximum distance. Running speed, jump timing and strength will affect your result.
  • This event uses the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. At the athlete introduction, swing them side to side in a clapping motion to draw applause.
  • Alternate shaking the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk to begin your approach. The faster you shake, the further you will be able to jump.
  • When "SPEED LOCKED" appears, stop shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to prepare for the jump.
  • Just before the takeoff board, raise the Wii Remote to hop. Raise the Nunchuk to step, then the Wii Remote to jump. If you swing up too hard, your jump will fail.
