The Time Bob-omb is a small maroon Bob-omb with a digital timer on its face that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It appears during the boss battles with Roy Koopa, Wendy O. Koopa, and Larry Koopa in Bowser's Castle. It does not attack Mario and Luigi until the digital timer on its face reaches zero. When it does, the Mario Bros. will be instantly knocked out under normal circumstances. The timer counts down from eight, and the brothers have only eight turns to beat the Koopalings. It retreats from each battle after the Koopaling is defeated.

The Time Bob-omb eventually sneaks up behind the Bros. after they nearly defeat Bowletta, and self-destructs right next to them, incapacitating them. This allows Bowletta to suck them into her stomach, where they fight Cackletta.

The damage the Time Bob-omb actually does to the Mario Bros. can be affected by their stats. During the Koopaling battles, if Mario and/or Luigi have high enough HP and Defense, they will not get knocked out by the Time Bob-omb's explosion and have unlimited turns to defeat the boss after it detonates. Bowletta will still think the Bros. are unconscious if they survive the Time Bob-omb explosion during the final battle and sucks them in anyway. In the remake, however, the Time Bob-omb will deal a set 999 damage regardless.

The Time Bob-omb reappears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, where it serves the same function as the original game with a few differences: Roy explains how it works to the Mario Bros. in this version, each Time Bob-omb explodes harmlessly after the Koopalings are defeated, and the number of turns before it explodes gets lower with each fight; it explodes after nine turns when fighting Roy, seven turns when fighting Wendy, and five turns when fighting Larry.
