The Cave Of The Mystery Maze
The Cave of the Mystery Maze is level six of world two in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake, Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island. The player uses Brown Yoshi in this level.
Overview
This stage begins outside. The player must make Yoshi run over to the right, and jump up on two Yellow Egg Blocks. A Fly Guy will appear, carrying a Winged Cloud without wings. The player must use Yoshi’s tongue to eat the Fly Guy, or shoot it with an egg to make five stars appear. The player should collect these stars, and then jump off the Egg Blocks and make Yoshi hit them with his head to obtain two Yellow Eggs. The player must then Ground Pound on the floor, which is made of breakable substance, until he or she sees an opening on the left hand side, which in it has two Mufti Guys and two coins, which are red. The player can shoot an egg in order to obtain these coins. The player must then continue to Pound the Ground until he or she reaches an area that has an opening on the left hand side, and a blocked path on the right. He or she should then follow the path on the right, collecting the two red coins and a flower and eating the three Mufti Guys. Continuing their way down, the player should see a gate. They should walk through this gate and Ground Pound on the breakable floor on the left of the solid ground between the breakable substances. He or she will then land on a small Spring Ball. They should then walk to the right, into another opening, and hot the Arrow Cloud with an egg, which will shoot up and collect a 1-Up. They should then continue to walk through this opening, Ground Pounding on the breakable substance above the larger Spring Ball and jumping up, landing on a ledge. The player should collect the three red coins and hit the Winged Cloud with an egg and collect five more stars. He or she should keep walking, Ground Pounding on the breakable substance. The player should stop Ground Pounding when he or she sees another unexplored opening on the left, breaking it open with an egg. The player should then walkthrough, collecting the six coins and eating the Lantern Ghost. The player may also re-stock eggs here, as there is an Egg Block. The player should then walk back to the right and continue to Pound the Ground. They can ignore the next section on the right, as they will come back to it. They should continue Pounding the Ground until they land in the floor. They will then see four coins, three of which are red. They player should collect these, then hit the Winged Clouds with eggs. The one on the left will give out a Key, and the one on the right will give the Yoshi more stars. Once these items have been obtained, the player can use the Spring Balls to jump to the open section on the right that they may have not entered before. Once the player has reached this open section, they should eat the Lantern Ghosts and hit the Winged Cloud with an egg, which will reveal a Door. The player should then press “up” on the control pad to enter the Door.
The player will now be in the cave. They should run to the right until they reach a Lantern Ghost. He or she should eat the Lantern Ghost and throw an egg upwards, which will destroy some of that breakable substance and drop a large Spring Ball. They player will now have to jump on the Spring Ball, and will land on another one, just below a flower. The player should grab the flower and perform a light jump (done by pressing the B button (SNES) or A button (GBA) lightly) and land on another yellow platform, the same as the ones that the previous two Spring Balls were on. The player should then eat the Fang and the two Lantern Ghosts on the left, then run to the left and hit the Arrow Cloud above Yoshi, which will collect the third Flower. The player should then make Yoshi continue to run to the left and jump down the gap with coins lining it. He will then land on a Lantern Ghost, and should continue to run to the left, past the Spring Ball he knocked down earlier until the player reaches a pipe that will spawn Lantern Ghosts if Yoshi does not have a full supply of eggs. The player should jump past this pipe, run up the rocky ground and onto a ledge on the left, which has the Middle Ring on it. The player should jump through the Middle Ring and up onto another ledge, go past the breakable substance below and collect three red coins. He or she should then run back to the breakable substance in between the ledge with the red coins and the ledge with the Middle Ring and Ground Pound right on the left hand side of the substance. A winged Cloud will appear. The player should hit the Winged Cloud to reveal a Door. He or she should enter the Door and eat the Lantern Ghosts. Five red coins and a flower will appear. He or she should also hit the Winged Cloud to obtain stars pr coins. The player should now go back out the Door and he or she will land where the Door appeared. The player should now continue to the right and under a mace, collecting the coins underneath it. He or she should then jump onto a Spring Ball above the mace and bounce really high until he or she sees little yellow platforms on each side of the wall. The player should jump up the wall using these platforms and collect the three red coins. There is also an invisible Winged Cloud directly above the Door that can be seen below, the player should make it appear then hit it with an egg to earn a 1-Up. The player can then go back down, all the way back to the first Spring Ball near the entrance to this part of the stage. The player should jump on this Spring Ball again, landing on the one above it, but Yoshi should perform a higher jump this time, jumping all the way up, landing on a third Spring Ball. Again, he should jump high, landing on a rocky landing near the roof. The player will then see some coins, and he or she should drop down the gap and land right in front of a Mini-Battle Door. The player will use the Key that he or she obtained in the first area to unlock the Door (by pressing “up” on the control pad). The player will now get to play a Min-Battle: Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest.
Once the player has finished playing the Mini-Battle, he or she should jump down to the left and run to the left a drop down the gap. The player will then be back where he or she started. Again, the player should run over to the Spring Ball and bounce on it (it will need to be obtained by hitting the breakable substance again). The player should then bounce on the second one as well, and once he or she reaches the third one, they only need to get up on the rock ledge on the right, so a little bounce is all that is needed. The player should then hit the Winged Cloud to obtain five more stars. He or she should then keep running to the right, jumping over the Kaboombas and pressing “up” on the control to enter the Door.
The player will now encounter a second Middle Ring. They should jump through it and continue on their way.
The player must be a little more cautious in this next part. He or she must jump from stone to stone, avoiding the Cactus Jacks )which can be destroyed by being hit with eggs) and Cloud Drops. Once the player reaches the end of this part of the stage, they will need to jump onto the last Spring Ball and advance on their journey.
The player will land in water in this final section. He or she will have to jump out of the water, and they may re-stock eggs here if needed. He or she will then have to jump on the Number Platforms, avoiding the Spray Fish attacks (which are not harmful, just annoying). When the player has landed on the platform with the number 3 on it, he or she will have to jump up and shoot an egg at the breakable substance, then jump up, run through and collect the last flower. They
can then run back and jump down, continuing to the right, running along the Number Platforms and jumping over the Chomp Rock. The player must keep running, Ground Pounding next to the Eggo-Dil and running past to reveal another hidden Winged Cloud. The player can hit this with an egg to earn another 1-Up. They can then run over to the GOAL! Ring, and then advance onto Lakitu's Wall.
