Director's Notes

Hello everybody, welcome to The 'Shroom! We are currently at the April 2013 issue, and we have quite a number of things that we are working on and implementing and whatnot.

I would like to welcome back Kibago (talk) (Edofenrir) as the Sub-director! He served The 'Shroom honorably during his last term in this capacity, and I know that we will do an excellent job again and that his addition to the staff team will allow us to grow and move forward. It is great to have the opportunity to work with him again. I would also like to welcome YoshiKong (talk) as the Spotlight Manager— we are finally going to dust off The 'Shroom Spotlight, reform it, and make progress. YoshiKong is experienced with matters of the community and will undoubtedly be a great asset to both the Spotlight project and The 'Shroom overall. And we bid a warm farewell to RandomYoshi (talk), who did the best that he could during his time as Statistics Manager and retired recently, and hope that he is able to accomplish what he needs to get done in his life. Mario4Ever (talk) is the new Statistics Manager, and has the competence and ability to carry out his duties well. Welcome to the team, everybody!

The 'Shroom Spotlight

Hey guys! The team have got something quite special to share with everyone this month. We would like to reintroduce The 'Shroom Spotlight, a project which used to be directed by Xzelion and Marioguy1. In the past, 'Shroom issues featured a section called 'Shroom Spotlight, which focused on a game article where users could sign up and collaborate to help improve those articles on the wiki. Progress which took place during the month was discussed in the next issue, and a new game article was put forward to work on. Around mid-2011, the project was showing lack of participation and sign-ups, and it was soon abandoned. Both Xzelion and Marioguy1 have since retired from the wiki, and it hasn't yet been brought back. Until now. Yes ladies and gentlemen, we would like to announce the return of The 'Shroom Spotlight! However, the whole process will be slightly modified from how it was run in the past. First off, to make the project slightly more open to users, sign up will not be required. Basically, all users, young or old, experienced or inexperienced, are invited to help out with the articles! The second change will be that games may not always be our focus. We may pick any type of article; character, game, a level, item, and more! Usually, we'll choose a page from the Rewrite Requested category. Sometimes it may be a page which is currently been nominated to be unfeatured, and occasionally we might highlight a wanted page or an article which needs more images, just to shake things up a bit ;P

Fun Stuff

Director’s Notes

Hello my loyal subjects. Not a lot’s happened this week except for me going on a well-deserved vacation. Anyways, the winner of this month’s section of the month is my loyal General General Bob-omb with 27 votes. Second place was Freakworld’s Guess that game section with 15 votes and in third place was my Guess that character section with 12 votes. That’s about it for this memo from your glorious leader, so happy reading (or else).

Pipe Plaza

Director's Notes

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the April Issue of Pipe Plaza!! I have sad news to share with you, so let's get to that now.

As some users may know, our former Statistics Manager, RandomYoshi (talk), has left the community, which means he has also left his position as Anniversary Announcements writer in the Pipe Plaza team. It's very sad to see a beloved member go, and I personally wish him the best of luck on his life. However, that does not mean Anniversary Announcements is vacant once again, as Turboo (talk) has taken over RandomYoshi's position, in order to keep readers informed of everything anniversary-related.

Interview

This month, I'm interviewing someone a tad less active but no less cool: MST3K! As a forum mod, he's been pretty cool, never going overboard with regulation but always keeping things in check. (I'm contractually obligated to vouch for my coworkers) But he's just pretty chill in general, and very open about his interests - not many people have a username that literally is their favorite TV show.

Okay yeah enough of that. On with the interview!

This one will be all about Waluigi Stadium.

Welcome Mario Karters to the Mario Kart:Wheel Tips Corner. Coincollector is here to tell you the tip of this month. I'm so sorry that I couldn't give you the tip of the last month as I've had a hard time those days (and unfortunately, I'm still having them: Lots of study, lots of work, lots of worries...) However, I won't let that hard time stop my productivity again and I'll give you the tips you always like to read and expect as much as I can.

Section of the Month

Last month, Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) resigned from his Retro Feature section in order to invest focus into other projects, and Coincollector (talk) was not able to deliver a Mario Kart: Wheels Tip Corner section last month. This left only two Main Team sections: the Interview by Superchao (talk), and Brawl Tactics (talk) by FunkyK38 (talk).

Music & Artwork

Director's Notes

Greetings, all! For this month’s issue, the winner of last month’s drawing contest was obviously Smg2daisy, as she was the only entry! Congratulations, and great job!

To business, I would like to announce two job openings. KoopaGuy has been removed from his post as writer of Soundtrack of the Month, and Rise Up Above It has decided to quit his job as writer of Character Artwork of the Month. If anyone would like either of these positions, send me an application and I will start your reviewing process!

As always, feel free to send me any sketches of Mario you may draw, and I will post them here for everyone’s viewing enjoyment! Remember to keep it PG, please.

Critic Corner

Director's Notes

Spent the last month or so listening to, like, seven music albums a day. Seriously, my ears are begging me to put the headphones down at this point before I develop tinnitus or something, but I just… can't… stop!

Anyway, there's no news this month, although we have a few section that could be filled up, if you're into that sort of thing.

  • Marioverse Reviews
  • Character Reviews
  • Virtual Console Reviews
  • Game Comparison
  • Movie Reviews
  • Book Reviews
  • Wiki Fiction Reviews

Contact me if you want to fill these sections permanently or as a temporary deal, and remember that I don't mind you applying for an already filled position; I am perfectly happy to have different takes on a similar subject, and at the end of the day, it's more sections for me. Also, please pay attention to our new Manual of Style when writing sections from now on; it'd save me a lot of tedious work. So yeah, read up and enjoy while I go back to studying and listening to bizarre 1980s sludge music.

Critic Corner Section of the Month

Our writer count was far better last month than the first two months of the year, so the results of March's section of the month are far better this time around! Winning with a whopping 17 votes was our new writer Yoshi K (talk), writing a brand new opinion piece section titled What Could Have Happened If…, discussing a hypothetical scenario in which Bowser Jr. was never introduced into the series, and analysing if the Koopalings would've still maintained relevancy in Mario's newer adventures. Congrats to you, mate, you've already got yourself a distinction with your first section.

Brawl Tactics

Welcome, Brawlers, to this month's edition of Brawl Tactics! This month, I will be covering the Earthbound/Mother stage New Pork City!

An obvious spin-off of New York City, this stage's size makes all the others seem like a DS screenshot, with the exception of Melee's Temple. One big disadvantage of this is the risk of losing your character in all the chaos. If you do not keep an eye on them, you will lose track of where they are, and if you walk off of certain platforms, there is really no hope of recovery. So be careful. The sides, ceiling, and floor of this stage are all fairly shallow due to it's size, so if you do fall, you don't have very long to try to get back up.
