Staff Notes

Written by: Roserade (talk)

Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Right now, I'd likely be singing the classic "It's gonna be May", but I blinked once and suddenly it was May 15th. Funny how time does that sometimes.

Welcome to the May edition of Fun Stuff! I hope that you and all of your families are safe and sound, and that you've found ways to keep yourself motivated throughout the day. Personally, I've been doing everything from creating sprite art, to playing Ace Attorney: Dual Destinities, to reading "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", which is a story I cannot recommend to you enough in book or movie form. I might have to write up a review for it sometime soon...

I'm happy to announce that this month, Fun Stuff is absolutely loaded with content! The true MVP contributor this month is Ninja Squid (talk), who submitted a total of four Fun Stuff sections! Thank you so much for your hard work this month, and please find yourself a therapist in the coming future. Of course, make sure to give every section a read, because all of our writers continue to put in all of their best effort, even during this stressful time, and I cannot thank them enough for it. I'm also excited to announce a bit of fun news; with this edition of The 'Shroom, the Fun Stuff team has had over 1000 separate sections written over its lifespan! That's absolutely staggering, and I'd like to thank each and every writer who has made that number a reality. You're the ones that make The 'Shroom the community love letter that it is, and it warms my heart immensely to see how our work together grows.

That's all from me in the booth. Make sure to grab some snacks, wash your hands, and enjoy this month's sections!

Section of the Month

Congratulations to FunkyK38 (talk) for another first place claim! Congratulations to Ninja Squid (talk) for second, and a big congratulations to Goombuigi (talk) for placing third with his first edition of Picross! Fantastic work, and I'm excited to see how your section develops into the future! Thank you to all of our readers, voters, and contributors as well, and make sure to vote again this month.

Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hello again everyone, I hope you're all safe and well, and welcome to the May edition of Anagrams! This month I've made a set of anagrams based on recurring bosses from across the Mario franchise for you to have a go at. If you ever have any ideas for themes for a future section or perhaps find a funny anagram that I could work into a section, let me know either on my talk page or send me a PM on the forums. I hope you'll enjoy battling with these anagrams!

How it works... Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

1. POOR GLOBE ROPE

2. SPIT UP CANARY

3. GIN BOOK

4. PAY OWED NOOK

5. APE IN THERAPY

6. WORRY BEDS

7. BREWS BY BOA

8. POOR MAJOR KNOT

9. LOG OR KINK

10. SO SOLO BUS

Bonus Anagram:

Answers

  4. Wendy O. Koopa
  5. Petey Piranha
  6. Dry Bowser

  9. King K. Rool

It's aMAZEing

Written by: Lakituthequick (talk)

Good day folks, time for a new It's aMAZEing!

Because we just had the announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King, let's take something from there, in this case an origami Fire Flower! We don't know how it will work yet, but it's there, so let's roll with it.

Do you have an idea for a maze you'd like to see? Leave a message on my talkpage or find me on the forums and send me a personal message, and your idea and name may be featured in a future episode!

How to play:

  • Copy the image into your favourite art program (like Paint, Photoshop, GIMP, etc.)
  • Click the line, pencil or brush tool and adjust the size as needed
  • Draw your line through the maze from start to finish
  • Zoom in and out as needed

Alternatively, print it out and use a pencil!

Hiding Koopa

Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)

Koopa Troopa from Mario Kart 8.
WANTED!

May I indulge you with another fun round of Hiding Koopa?

Hello my dear 'Shroom readers, I hope you are all doing well during this time of year. As for me, I am trying to keep everything cool by finding and praciting some new ninja tricks, so I can have more schemes when needed. You know, being a ninja isn't always an easy job after all, so you always have to be at the top of your game.

I will give you an advise to become one (or perhaps trying to be one): There's a new game coming to the Nintendo Switch this month (well, it was supposed to be released this month, but was delayed; thank you for forcing me to edit this part :s) called Ninjala. Take a look at it, because that's probably your best step to get into the world of a ninja. What? Did you expect me to give you tips and tricks of my own ninja life? Come on, this stuff is personal to me. Ninjas always have to learn on their own, because that will prevent everyone to copy their styles.

Speaking of ninja stuff, five Koopas are currently hidden into an artwork of Ninjala. They are waiting for you to find them. Have fun!

Picross

Written by: Goombuigi (talk)

Dear 'Shroom readers, welcome to another section of Picross! For those of you who don't know how to play, you can check out Issue 157 or you can find rules online. Each Picross issue has a specific theme. If you have any ideas for themes (such as games or characters), feel free to suggest them here. For this theme, I've decided to choose Super Mario Galaxy 2, since it is becoming ten this month. To celebrate one of the greatest and most revolutionary Mario games in existence, I've prepared three puzzles based on it. Good luck!

Level 1: Easy

Word Search

Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)

Animal Crossing New Horizons Logo.png

Hey there, 'Shroom readers! Welcome to an all-new Word Search. In a time like this, we always feel the urge to go on vacation to a deserted island or just simply on a vacation to forget our daily worries, isn't it? While you may not have this chance right now, I can at least indulge you with a word search about a game that can make you enjoy this experience. Have you guessed the game I'm referring to? If your answer was Animal Crossing: New Horizons, well you're right (you had a clue)!

The words that you're going to find, are actually characters from the Animal Crossing series. They can be found in all directions (up, down, diagonally, forward, and backward). With that said, enjoy!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

Tie up this thief!
“Problems in paradise, gumshoe! Donkey Kong has had all of his ties stolen! Donkey Kong's iconic tie has been the featured clothing choice for the King of Swing for most of his appearances- it's as important as his fur color to get right! Today we received a call from Diddy Kong- DK won't come out of his house until his ties are returned- and we need to you to get investigating! We've tracked one Krooked Kremling down, and it's up to you to follow him and find DK's wardrobe! Time to get sleuthing, gumshoe, before Carmen can make accessories out of the ties!”

Fit to be tied!

“You were quick this time, gumshoe! We arrived there just as Krooked Kremling arrived with the package of ties. He had no choice but to surrender! Great work! We recovered all of DK's stolen ties, and we even found one of Diddy Kong's hats in with the rest of the stolen clothes. Sounds like Carmen has been interested in acquiring more red clothes in addition to her signature style. We thwarted her stolen clothes shopping spree this time, and we need to keep doing so in the future. Keep a sharp eye out, gumshoe, and we'll send any new cases we get your way!”

Guess Who!

Bwa ha ha ha! Happy times indeed! It's time for a Bowser Minigame! I kicked out that so-called Ninja Squid (talk) loser of this section. Now, it's MINE! Bwahaha! Welcome to Bowser's Super Duper Hard Guess Who: Special Edition!! You won't be able to beat this at ALL! Gwah ha ha ha!

Guess Who!

Bowser

Round 1

  • Instead of shooting magic blasts from her wand, she prefers to throw candy rings. I bet she has a sweet tooth.
  • According to her company name that can be seen in Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, she is into interior decorating. Would you dare let her decorate your house?
  • She considers Princess Peach and Princess Daisy as her rivals. Perhaps she just dislike royalty, or she's just jealous (On her case, it's probably the latter).

Round 2

  • He's so mad! They build our houses, our castles. They pave our roads, and still we walk all over them! In the future, you better thanks them!
  • Do this sentence sound familiar to you? Well, in Super Mario Galaxy 2, he is tired of this speech.
  • After getting three ground pounds on his back, he realized that he is just a stepping stone, after all. No need for thanks anymore!

Round 3

  • She is engaged in a magical duel again Jr. Troopa in the ending parade of the first game she appeared... only for both to end up burnt by Bowser's fire breath. Ouch!
  • According the herself, she is a beautiful Koopa with a beautiful name. Uh... no comment.
  • In Goombella's tattle of her, it is questioned if she have has hard time enduring Bowser, or rather Bowser is having a hard time enduring her. What's your guess on it?

Bonus Round: Quotes Only

  • "Leave my mama alone, you bad man!"
  • "That’s right! My pops is better than everyone! Hahahaha!"
  • "Some day...when I'm bigger... I wanna fight that Mario again!"

Mystery Images

Written by: Ninja Squid (talk)

Guess who's back!

Hello 'Shroom readers, and welcome to another one-time Mystery Images from your Statistics Manager. If it continues like this, I might have to keep writing this section for a while, but hey, it's really not difficult and I strongly encourage you to create some sections for Fun Stuff. If you don't have much time to write a long section, Fun Stuff is probably the best place for you. Send me your application, and we will be more than happy to count you among our wonderful writers.

Now back to the point, I'm not here to make an advertising campaign for the 'Shroom, but rather to tell you about the activity. The goal of Mystery Images is to identify the images thanks to a few fragments of it. This time around, you'll need to identify a character, a group of two characters, and a game cover.

It's now time for guessing!
