Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to Fun Stuff, where things are foolish, festive, and fearfully tucked inside!

As you all are aware, this pandemic situation is far from over, and like many other people, I'm starting to develop some cabin fever. Of course, I have my ways to combat this — taking long walks is highly recommended, especially if you've been having the great weather that my area has. Don't forget to get your body moving in some way, be it yoga or cardio, and don't beat yourself down too much! If you're like me, and are only able to focus on one goal at a time right now, that is perfectly alright. You deserve the rest, we all do.

My final piece of advice is find some ways to mentally stimulate yourself, be it taking up a hobby you've always been interested in, or diving deeper into your creative side. In case you didn't know, the high school I attend is an arts school, so being outside of that fostering community of artists has really knocked me off-kilter. I've taken up some new ideas, though, such as learning how to create sprite art, and it's greatly benefited my everyday life, so find some way to keep yourself entertained and your mind happy.

Onto your regularly scheduled Fun Stuff news. I'm happy to announce that we have a new writer joining the team! Goombuigi (talk) is new on-board the metaphorical ship this month, with a wonderful Picross section for you all to play! Make sure to give it a read, as well as the rest of our wonderful team. And if you're thinking "gee Rose, I need something else to occupy my time", check out our sign-up page and see if any ideas strike you! We hope to see you on the team soon.

Okay, that's all the time I've got. I gotta get back to playing Animal Crossing New Horizons on my Nintendo Switch. Please enjoy this month's edition of Fun Stuff!

Congratulations to FunkyK38 (talk) for another first place standing! Congrats to Ninja Squid (talk) and Lakituthequick (talk) for second and third respectively, and thank you to all of our readers and voters!

Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing alright in these interesting times, I know some people are finding it harder than others, so keep on going and I'm sure we'll all get through it. This month I've got a set of Super Mario Maker anagrams for you, and in this context I'm specifically referring to elements from the first game. And amazingly enough, this is actually my thirtieth anagram section I've written! It barely seems like a couple of months since I first sent off my application for the first section. I've been doing this for too long. So, for the thirtieth time, if you ever come up with any funny anagrams related to Mario or ideas for future section themes, let me know either my leaving a message on my talk page or by sending me a PM on the forums. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these anagrams that should hopefully help to pass some time for you.

How it works... Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

Hiding Koopa

Koopa Troopa from Mario Kart 8.
WANTED!

Hi, dear 'Shroom readers! This is your nice little Statistics Manager, coming with a new edition of Hiding Koopa, just for you!

It seems like COVID-19 pandemic isn't stopping anytime soon, unfortunately, but hey, it is in these moments that small activities, like you can find here in Fun Stuff, are nice to pass the time and have a little fun. Truly, this means Fun Stuff is the best 'Shroom team isn't it? Yes, is the only possible response here!

Now, regarding this month's artwork. My Koopas were intrigued by an artwork of Kirby Star Allies. I wonder if they wanted to become Kirby's allies. Prepare to toss your Friend Hearts, Kirby! In any case, be sure to find the five of them. Have fun!

Picross

Written by: Goombuigi (talk)

Hello 'Shroom readers, my name is Goombuigi, and I hope you’re having a wonderful day. With the recent dramatic events going on, I have decided to provide a monthly distraction for you in the form of Picross. For those who are unfamiliar on how to play, here are the rules with an example included (feel free to skip if you are already familiar with the game):

Picross Example 1.png

In Picross, the goal is to fill in the blank squares to uncover a picture. The numbers on the sides of each row and column show how many consecutive spaces will be colored in the respective row or column, which will be used to complete the picture. If there are two or more numbers next to each other, they hint that the respective spaces colored in will be separated by at least one blank space. In the fifth row, the number eight shows that all eight spaces in the respective row will be filled in, like so:

Picross Example 2.png

The columns with the number 3 mean that three consecutive spaces in the column need to be filled. Since one space is already filled, either the two spaces above it or the two spaces below might be filled. The others in the column will not be filled, so they will be marked with grey.

Picross Example 3.png

Since there are six spaces remaining in the row with 6, all the spaces will be colored in. Now comes the tricky part. In the columns with 5 1, we know that gives spaces will be colored in, with a gap and one more space afterwards. Since in each of these columns, there are two single spaces in the upper half of the grid, this means that they will be connected, because they will need to form five consecutive spaces. Since 5 is the first number in the column, that implies that the five marked spaces will come first in the column.

Picross Example 4.png

Now, a multitude of options are available for us. In the rows 1 1 1 1, there has to be at least one blank space between each filled space. Currently there is a two-space gap which cannot be colored in, because there would be two colored spaces next to each other. Instead, the other two colored spaces will go on the edges, like so:

Picross Example 5.png

Take a look at the columns 1 3. The single bottom space is blocked by an uncolored space above it, so the remaining two spaces have to be right underneath it.

Picross Example 6.png

The rest is simple. The rows with 4 can be colored in, finish coloring the spaces that won’t be marked, and voila! The result is a Mushroom!

Picross Example 7.png

Picross comes in different sizes. The example was 8x8, but Picross puzzles can be of any size. To play, just download the puzzle and open it in any drawing program you want. Each month, I'll prepare 2 – 4 Picross puzzles, and each issue will have a different theme. This month, we have mushrooms, some of the most iconic Mario elements. Good luck!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

Put pause to this parasol plundering!
“Gumshoe, I’ve got another case for you. This time, it’s a request straight from Princess Peach herself. It seems that her precious parasol collection has been stolen by Carmen! Princess Peach’s parasols have been featured in many games, from Super Mario Sunshine to Super Smash Bros. She’s used a parasol to fly, fight, and fend off the sun, and sometimes they have even been alive! But now, her entire collection is gone, and we suspect one Nasty Nabbit, a sleeper agent Carmen calls on constantly to capture their captives. Get to work, gumshoe- find that Nabbit, and get those parasols back to the princess!”

Parasols perfectly present!

“We’ve got good news and bad news, gumshoe. The good news is, we went to the location you specified and found the stash of parasols! Princess Peach verified that all of them are present and accounted for. The bad news is, Nasty Nabbit wasn’t there. Seems like he left the parcel of parasols for Carmen to pick up and we happened to intercept them between the drop off and pick up. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be seen, which means Carmen can contact him again for more assignments. We’ll have to watch for both of them in the future. For now, good work, gumshoe. Keep your wits sharp and your eyes peeled.”
