Hey everyone and welcome to the first issue of 2018! I would like to thank all of you for entrusting me with the role of Director again, and I look forward to leading The 'Shroom to new heights. As I mention in my Direcrorial Address, I would like to once again welcome The Pyro Guy (talk), LudwigVon (talk), and Lakituthequick (talk) to the Core 'Shroom Staff. The Pyro Guy will run Pipe Plaza, LudwigVon will be the new Statistics Manager, and Lakituthequick will have the position of Website Manager, which I am creating as of this moment. More information can be found in my address. I hope for another great year and I hope you enjoy this issue!

Hello, 'Shroom readers! I'd say there's not much to add this month, but there really is - it's just that my boss beat me to saying all of it! Good on him. Still, I gotta thank you, the voters, for giving us another term. I intend to hold out until the end of this year, at least, so you'd better be ready to put up with me for the next twelve months.

Oh, and if you're a Critic Corner writer, send the sections to me for February! Anton has more on this in CC itself, but this is very important!

Superchao, Sub-Director

Staff Section of the Month for December 2017

STAFF-VOTED SECTION OF THE MONTH
Place Section Writer Reasoning
1st Dear Anton Hypnotoad (talk) It's clear Anton has a lot of fun with his answers and drawings, and these are some of his best to date. His festive touch on his iconic section earned him top honors.
2nd YoshiFlutterJump's Tips and Tricks YoshiFlutterJump (talk) The section feels like he's explaining it to you in person, with added emphasis in the text to help that feel. It's very informative but still has some silliness to it.
3rd Spla-tune in for Splatoon Stargazing (talk) This was a good special, as well as fitting for the Wii U tribute theme of the issue. Stargazing writes a well-thought out review for Splatoon, and one that is informative, and fun to read.
4th TV Tomorrow Quizmelon (talk) A section that never fails to make us chuckle. Quizmelon keeps improving with each passing month and his section has all the potential to become a Fake News standard.
5th It's aMAZEing Lakituthequick (talk) A very creative maze by LTQ; he took a spin on his section and gave us a maze that can be solved in six different ways.
6th Mario's Boombox Hooded Pitohui (talk) A legitimately interesting section that explored the life cycle of the Wii U in a way we would have never thought about before reading it.
6th Pokédex Power Yoshi876 (talk) This section once again delivers in quality. Not only did Yoshi876 provide analysis for Amaura, but he also went back to all the previous sections to cover the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon entries. It's neat to see him reflect on the previous Pokemon he covered, and determine if the new Pokedex entries have anything to add.

Congratulations to all of our writers for their amazing work!

I have a small message to give before finishing with these Staff Notes; I have decided to step down as Statistics Manager. I want to wholeheartedly thank MK and Perch for having given me the honor of serving as part of the 'Shroom Core Staff for a seventh term. The 'Shroom holds a very special place in my heart and the Stats Manager position even more so; I can unequivocally say it is my favorite position in all of the newspaper. But I can also acknowledge that it's time for a change, and I am sure my successor (you'll find out who it is in the Directorial Address) will excel in every aspect of the job. I know The 'Shroom has a very bright future ahead and I can't wait to see what 2018 brings. I will continue to assist the Core Staff as Consultant in every way I can, and you'll keep seeing me on Take Cover! each other month. Until then!
