Issue100 876.png

Hello 'Shroom readers! Welcome to Issue 101, the Issue that comes after Issue 100 and before Issue 102.

There are some slight change-ups to this month's (and future months) sections. As mentioned last issue, the Community Report was just a once off guest submission, so that section is open for application alongside UPdate and Projects Seeking Contributions. Pyro Guy (talk) has been replaced by Paper Yoshi (talk) as the writer for Upcoming Games and that section will be submitted every three months. We also have no New Articles section this month, I'm afraid.

Due to me going on holiday last month I wasn't able to fully thank all of those who submitted sections, so better late than never. Thank you to Ghost Jam (talk) for submitting a NIWA News section (the first one since September 2013) and thank you to Crocodile Dippy (talk) for her new regular section: Birthday Wishes which as one can imagine informs readers on the birthdays of notable users in the month of publication.

Monthly Report

Written by: Viper26 (talk)

Greetings 'Shroom readers, and welcome to another issue of the Monthly Report. Nothing special this month, so let's compare this month's statistics to last month's.

Credit goes to Stooben Rooben (talk), Super Mario Bros. (talk), and Paper Yoshi (talk) for the table coding (I based this off of Stooben's coding, which was later modified by SMB, and Paper Yoshi when they wrote in this section.).

Tip of the Month

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

When writing a proposal, keep in mind the subject matter. Does this item involve major edits to multiple articles, or an editing change made to the entire community? Put it on the Proposals page. Does this item involve a single/few pages to be moved/split/shifted? Put it on said item's Talk Page.

You should always make your proposal clear to the audience, especially about your proposed change. And be prepared to defend yourself to constructive criticism and the opposite viewpoint. Don't take someone else's honest, constructive opinion as a personal attack to your proposal or yourself.

Forum Update

Written by: MrConcreteDonkey (talk)

Welcome once again to the Forum Update! There's no news of any changes this month, so let's get straight into everything else.

This month we're covering July. So let's see if my mission to return activity to the forum was a success.

Stats

  • 180 topics were made this month. Less than last month but by far not the lowest.
  • 14276 posts were made. About 200 more than June.
  • 24 new members joined, which is the largest amount so far in 2015!
  • 206 was the most online in July.

Thread of the Month

July's Thread of the Month went to itt: sum up your life with a single picture by BEEEEEAAARRRS (Toadbert101 (talk)), which offered a rare yet shocking insight into the often-bleak but always interesting lives of the MarioBoards populace. An incredibly moving moment from said thread came when it was revealed that Toadbert and Crash both, coincidentally, get turned on by danger. Or pictures of a bored-looking Colin Mochrie that imply he gets turned on by danger. QuizmoManiac's contribution also inspired interest, along with a little confusion, in those who visited the thread.

MarioWiki: The Skype Group, which was started by Pyro (Pyro (talk)), also generated considerable interest this month. Amazingly enough, the group did not die in two days, and even has uses beyond just chatting - for example, organising online games of Super Smash Bros. or Quiplash.

Anniversary Announcements

Written by: Lakituthequick (talk)

Welcome to an all new edition of Anniversary Announcements. For as far as you can still call it that.

The Awards Ceremony was on 14 August, and we'd like to thank everyone involved for the work they've put into it!

As there isn't a lot to tell about that besides a "read it if you didn't yet", I'll go to Tournaments.

Awards Mafia 2015

The game has started on the 7th of this month.

Awards Smash 2015

Doubles are going on now, and are currently in the fourth round out of four. The deadline for players is 26 August.

Art Contest

Voting closed on the 11th, and we can congratulate Nysic for winning the beginner class, Turboo for winning intermediate and Hypnotoad for winning advanced! Congratulations!

Mario Kart 7 Tournament 2015

The tournament ended on 26 July, and we can congratulate Cirdec with his win on MK7 this year! Congratulations!
The runner-ups are SKmarioman and Turboo.

Mario Kart 8 Tournament 2015

The tournament ended on 31 July, and we can congratulate SKmarioman with winning MK8 this year! Congratulations!
The runner-ups are Nysic and Crackin355.

Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament 2015

The deadline was set for 10 August, but not all battles were played yet at that date.

These Tournaments award participants with Tokens to spend on prizes based on their performance. These prizes do not come from Yoshi Eggs, so if you are interested in donating such prizes, please contact Hypnotoad or Smasher on the Boards. Recommended items include all sorts of gift cards and Steam items. We are grateful for any donations! The prize-awarding is soon upon us!

And that makes it for the (probably) last edition of Anniversary Announcements this year! I hope you enjoyed it and the celebrations as much as I did, and I'll see you around next year! Stay fresh!

All information above is correct as of 20 August.

Upcoming Games

Written by: Paper Yoshi (talk)

Hello, readers, and welcome to Upcoming Games!! Yes, I am indeed back to writing this section, and I'm very pleased and excited to once again join the Pipe Plaza Team.

However, I won't be here all the time, unfortunately. In order to be able to deliver this amazing section to all readers of the paper in a timely fashion and with great content, I needed to draw limits to my position as Upcoming Games writer, which basically consist in writing the section every three months, approximately (that'd be four to five sections per year). I'd love to turn in a new section every month of the year, but, the way everything's going right now, I cannot commit to such a schedule, only to change it in the blink of an eye.

Anyway, I've surpassed my limit of boring text, so let's get to what matters...

Building stuff!!!

As you may have heard (if not, then I'm telling you now!), there's a very special Mario game coming up in September for the Wii U, called Super Mario Maker, which "simply" allows anyone with a Wii U to create his/her very own Super Mario level.

Super Mario Maker includes four different level styles, based off four different Super Mario games: the design that started it all, hailing from Super Mario Bros.; the one which made everyone love having a tail, from Super Mario Bros. 3; the one which introduced the very best that no one ever was character from the whole thirty-year-old Mario history, the dino everyone loves so much they wanna die, Yoshi, from the equally amazing SNES game, Super Mario World; and, finally, the one that made everyone love Mario in a "new" way, from the New Super Mario Bros. series, but mainly from New Super Mario Bros. U.

Mario after obtaining a Weird Mushroom in Super Mario Maker.
The result of hard work, an odd mushroom and three seconds of transformation.

Players are able to build levels in any of those styles, using all sorts of objects from the aforementioned Mario games. The great majority of them may be added to any level created, while some are exclusive to either one or two styles.

While I won't go into detail about everything that can be done in the game, as the possibilities are pretty much endless, some features in Super Mario Maker certainly caught my attention while reading about the game, and I would like to talk about them for a bit.

There are two interesting power-ups exclusive to Super Mario Bros. levels debuting in SMM: the Mystery and Luigi Mushrooms. The first one allows Mario to transform into a certain character when the corresponding amiibo is tapped onto the GamePad, such as Link or Yoshi; meanwhile, the second 'shroom, as its name suggests, makes Mario gain Luigi's abilities, such as his higher jumps, while getting slimmer in the process (just like Luigi!). I also found awesome being able to put enemies into Koopa Clown Cars, and riding it sounds amazing as well. Additionally, I like how they included just a few exclusive power-ups from each of the games featured in Super Mario Maker, in order to keep everything clean, without a whole ton of Mario transformations (I'm looking at you, NSMB series).

First article: Music Supplier, Issue XXIV
Last article: Special Section V, Issue L
Sections Written: Main Team: 3
Positions held: Contributor

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring you a section from Neurario (talk)!

Neurario joined the MarioWiki on 23rd January 2008 and made his 'Shroom debut during Issue XXIV in the Main Team. Neurario’s first section was Music Supplier, a section that had never been featured in The ‘Shroom before, in it Neurario supplied readers with some music tracks from different games. Neurario would go on to write Music Supplier once more. He also submitted a Special section in Issue L, which was a recount of his time on the wiki.

However, you’re not here to learn about the history of Neurario, you’re here to a view a classic section from issues gone by, so without further ado here is Neurario’s Music Supplier from Issue XXVI.

Music Supplier

by Neurario (talk)

Hello, wikians! After a month's break (Thanks, poor time management!) I'm back with another Music Supplier section for you all. Two months ago we brought in a selection of slow, soothing music. This month, we're taking it in the opposite direction, giving you grand orchestral samples, fast music to rock out to, and other music of that caliber. We're out to have fun, and that's the kind of thing I'm pursuing here in this section today. If you think there's anything on this section I can improve, by all means feel free to contact me at User talk:Neurario or on the forums! I'd love to know what you would pick or change in the song list. Anyway, enough talk! We have a section to cover, and here it is!

(Wii) Super Mario Galaxy Battle For The Grand Star (YouTube)
Played during Mario's final battle with Bowser in SMG. And it's a very apt piece, especially when one considers that every final boss battle seems so much more epic with an orchestral band. Hats off to the Mario Galaxy Orchestra for making such a wonderful soundtrack for this game.
(SNES) Super Mario World Athletic BGM (YouTube)
One of the few background songs in SMW, usually played in levels when you\'re suspended in the air (like bridges, or moving platform levels). Once again the song is apt for its setting, especially when there is a lot of action going on. I wonder if anyone listens to it to get pumped up, perhaps while taking a jog…
(Wii) Super Smash Bros Brawl Mario Circuit (Super Mario Kart) (YouTube)
Okay, so maybe I'm cheating just a tiny bit by including a remake of a song, but trust me, I did include this for a reason. I will admit I very much enjoy songs that have been remixed into different styles, like a fast song into ambience, or in this case, a bleepy SNES song into a kind of dance tune you might nod your head to.

But I do recommend you listen to the original sometime.

(N64) Mario Party 3 Stardust Battle (YouTube)
More "boss" music. The main plot point of MP3 was centered around the Millennium Star, and as you actually fight him you hear this music. Personally, this kind of music I haven't heard since Super Mario Galaxy, and to see it on a Nintendo 64 as well (though possible) sorta…brings me…forward? What's the opposite of "nostalgia"? Anyway, I enjoy the rhythm and beat around this track. It's something I could see myself mashing up for fun… :P
(N64) Super Mario 64 Dire, Dire Docks (cave) (YouTube) (+ Soulchip "remix")
We took the main version of this song two months back, in the first of these sections. Why am I bringing it back again with this sort of music? I don't know, but the drums make it sound different…I wouldn't say 'breakbeat', although that could be the word I'm looking for, but it's still something I find myself nodding my head to every now and then.

And there we go for this month. And yes, you WILL see this page here next month, Neu will be a good lil' Lucario and do the right thing this time! ^_^; Enjoy yourselves, readers (and listeners).

PS: Meep.
