Alleged similarity to WLSML3 main theme

How do those sound even remotely similar? I suppose a recurring extremely fast percussive riff sounds ultra-tenuously like it, with some notes at the end scrambled and not including the full thing, but that's a major leap there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:44, February 17, 2020 (EST)

It's the part heard 12 seconds in which comes from the original theme's intro. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 23:14, February 17, 2020 (EST)
Maybe just the four notes, but nothing afterward is even remotely similar. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:22, February 17, 2020 (EST)
There's also the course itself sharing a pirate theme and Bull Wario's appearance. I really don't see how those specific notes cannot be a reference. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:03, February 19, 2020 (EST)
There's four notes with a vague similarity (and they aren't exactly a unique rhythm anyways) and then both trail off two completely separate ways in the same bar. Had the main recurring melody of the WL theme been used, that'd be a more compelling argument. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:10, February 19, 2020 (EST)
It's not just the four notes; it's the four after those four as well. The fact that it's repeated throughout the first half of the track in the MK7 song (and again, the shared pirate theme and Bull Wario), I'm not getting how you're not seeing a reference here. It's clearly not a full-on arrangement, but it's just a short musical nod. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:24, February 19, 2020 (EST)
The four after don't sound alike, though. Maybe beat-wise, but not pitch-wise at all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:32, February 19, 2020 (EST)

Literally the first eight notes: Compare with 0:12 to 0:14

I seriously can't be more specific.

They don't have to be 100% exactly the same but they are obviously similar. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:45, February 19, 2020 (EST)

The MK7 one speeds up midway through after a rest and is a different sequence of notes? Similar, yes, enough to be considered objectively a reference, no. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:51, February 19, 2020 (EST)
Then would you say that this track isn't a reference to the SMB overworld theme just because it has a different tempo? -- KOOPA CON CARNE 20:54, February 19, 2020 (EST)
That has seven notes sound close enough it could be considered a starting point, and is a theme that's been arranged so much already anyways interpreting it's gonna allow for a bit looser standard. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:55, February 19, 2020 (EST)
I already said they don't have to be exactly the same to be considered a reference. And you're ignoring the fact that the course literally has a pirate theme and Bull Wario. Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:56, February 19, 2020 (EST)
No, I'm not. "Wario in a Viking Helmet" is far more likely a reference (even if it's the wrong color compared to his art iirc), though I really don't think that if I had to deliberately listen for it for 5 minutes to notice it that it's similar enough in composition or execution. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:02, February 19, 2020 (EST)
guy that does music for a partial living here. Are there four notes appegiating downwards in a similar fashion? Yes, yes there are. Would I say that this is necessarily distinguished enough to be a motif repeated? No, I would lean towards the side of coincidence. However, what sells me on this being intentional is the notes immediately following it. While the notes are descending in a G major chord, the second part moves to this funky G phrygian using an Ab and Bb instead. The rhythms between the horns in shipyard and the main theme on gb are different, however the main melody is still there. I assure to you that this is in fact a reference. Trig - 21:23, February 19, 2020 (EST)
OK, I guess I can go with that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:25, February 19, 2020 (EST)
I even literally said the eight notes (the first four and the notes following them). Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 21:47, February 19, 2020 (EST)
I know, but I couldn't pick up on the similarity until Trig went into detail. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:25, February 19, 2020 (EST)
