Wario game?Edit

Should this really be in the Wario Games category? Cobold 13:49, 3 February 2007 (EST)

....no. It's a Mario game. - Ultimatetoad

I think it's both, as Wario is the titular character. -- Son of Suns

Name of enemiesEdit

Could someone list all of the names of the minor enemies from the game, please? Thanks in advance.--Spark 06:03, 9 April 2007 (EDT)

sequelEdit

who deleted Wario's Woods 2, was it true or a fake?????????????????????////Blue KoopCBlue KoopC Blue KoopC

It was something considered to be an April Fools joke. Why are you signing your comment thrice? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:08, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Story inconsistency?Edit

I keep finding two different stroies to this game. One has Wario using his monsters to take over the woods, the other has Wario already owning the woods and planning to use his monsters to attack the Mushroom Kingdom. Did the two versions of the game have different stories? --AgentCH 14:58, 26 July 2008 (EDT)

Boss CharactersEdit

Can we please link to them? Or just put sprites or artwork of them on the article? Superjustin 20:10, 22 January 2009 (EST)

Localization?Edit

Because it seems like most puzzle games in the US/Europe with familiar characters are localizations of Japanese games like Super Mario Bros. 2 is Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic in japan or Kirby's Avalanche is Super Puyo-Puyo, is this a localization of a Japanese game? Hello I am user ChillGuy.

I have been inactive for quite sometime, I have become much more mature than I had when I first joined this wiki, after being apart of Wikia for almost a year.

Nope, this game was created as it is from the beginning. Other than text, nothing was changed in the translation.--Knife (talk) 05:00, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

"Squeak" and "Fuzz" names switched?Edit

The NES manual, Wii Virtual Console manual, and Wii U Virtual Console manual all have the names "Squeak" and "Fuzz" swapped compared to Mario Wiki. From what source did Mario Wiki find that Squeaks are the bear/sheep-like enemies and Fuzzes are the enemies with curly ears? I'd like to know because that source does not agree with any of the manuals for the NES version of the game.

The SNES manual has the Squeak, Spud, and Fuzz grouped together, so it's much more difficult to tell whether that manual agrees with the other 3 or if it agrees with Mario Wiki.

English names of NES BossesEdit

http://gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Nintendo_NES/manual/Formated/Wario-s_Woods_-_1994_-_Nintendo.pdf (if the link is removed, search for "nes wario's woods manual pdf")

This is the NES version's manual. On page 15, it tells the English names of the bosses. "Akuman" is "Fauster", "De Buu" is "Boom", "Meidou" is "Mad", "Goura" is "Goro", "Dorago" is "Drago", and "Shiisa" is "Seizer".

Why did the entire wiki ignore or fail to notice the English names in the NES manual?

Because not a lot of people own Wario's Woods for the NES.
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:17, 7 November 2013 (EST)
Now it seems the names are not official. Was this an unofficial manual? Zakor1138 (talk) 16:42, 29 November 2014 (EST)

English names not official?Edit

The above topic mentions the English instruction manual which supposedly has the English names for the bosses, but they have been reverted back to their Japanese names. Was it a fake? Zakor1138 (talk) 16:46, 29 November 2014 (EST)

Extra Challenge ModeEdit

This talk page or section has a conflict or a question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

For the SNES version, there is a hidden Extra Challenge Mode.  left +   on the VS COM mode to activate. Should it be covered? If so, how? I ask because we have pages like Hard Mode. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:49, 8 July 2016 (EDT)

I don't see why it can't be mentioned in Hard Mode. It now has information for Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Safari and Luigi's Mansion -- even if their hard modes don't explicitly name it as such (especially the latter's Hidden Mansion). --Zootalo (talk) 01:54, 8 July 2016 (EDT)
Challenge Mode (New Super Mario Bros.) - We have a complication. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 01:56, 8 July 2016 (EDT)

Split?Edit

Given this proposal, I'd say the SNES Wario's Woods is more than transformative enough to qualify for a split. In addition to adding the VS COM and extra difficulty, the existing Round Game and Time Race game modes have significant changes between consoles as well, with entirely different monster layouts per screen, soundtrack, and the removal of standard bosses. It's somewhat forcing it to keep them in the same article. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:25, October 20, 2019 (EDT)

It's been almost a year since this was initially suggested, but I agree with splitting. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 18:36, October 11, 2020 (EDT)
Now, hold on. If we split the NES and SNES versions, then what should we do with the Satellaview versions? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 14:17, February 22, 2023 (CST)
That would go with the SNES (at least for now). The NES and SNES versions are for all intents and purposes different games. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:41, February 22, 2023 (EST)
Ok. Maybe there could be a proposal for this game? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 08:23, March 13, 2023 (CST)

Split Wario's Woods.Edit

Split NES and SNES versions, keep Satellaview information with SNES 9-2-0
I know that I made a port/remake proposal before, but this one's different. First, some context. On July 18, 2018,a proposal to split Switch/3DS games on a case by case basis passed. On October 20, 2019, LinkTheLefty (talk) said

So that's what I'm doing. I can see that SNES and NES "are for all intents and purposes different games", the problem is the Satellaview versions. On the one hand, they have differences too, like SMA3 vs. YI, but on the other hand, those differences might not be enough.

Split NES and SNES versions, keep Satellaview information with SNESEdit

  1. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) Secondary choice per proposal.
  2. Waluigi Time (talk) Long overdue. We don't have much information on the Satellaview versions though, so those can probably stay merged for now.
  3. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Waluigi Time--how has this not been done sooner? While we'd like to split the Satellaview version at a later time, we figure it can't hurt to keep them merged until those are more documented.
  4. MegaBowser64 (talk) Per all, and I was gonna make a joke about Wario's Woods but I couldn't think of one :'(
  5. ReeceeYT (talk) Per all.
  6. LinkTheLefty (talk) Thing with Satellaview Wario's Woods is that it's not just one version, but at least four. Right now, deeming them edits of the SNES version is well enough. When there's more information, we can reconvene and gather which Satellaview versions are worth splitting further and whatnot.
  7. Zootalo (talk) Per all.
  8. Hewer (talk) Per all, it baffles me how it took this long for this to happen.
  9. Arend (talk) Per all. Satellaview version can stay with the SNES version until we have further information on its differences.

Split all 3Edit

  1. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) Main choice per proposal.
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Our secondary option--we feel like for now, there may be slim pickings for coverage, but hey, if it's our ultimate goal, this might kickstart further discoveries.

Do NothingEdit

CommentsEdit

So, how come the NES and SNES versions weren't suggested to be split until now? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:21, March 14, 2024 (EDT)

No one really thought to or was willing to do all the work; for most people, this game is pretty low-priority, to the point that basically the only reason anyone references it ever is because of the version-exclusive mermaids. A similar case is Missing and Time Machine which are not split between systems despite being functionally completely different games. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:29, March 14, 2024 (EDT)

Question: if the first option passes (and it's looking poised to), are we going with "Wario's Woods (Nintendo Entertainment System)" for the title? Yes I know I suggested it but it's been nearly five years with little traction until now. Since it was released first by about ten months and it's the version that gets re-released much more often, I'm thinking the NES one should be the "default" article, following the formatting of other subjects. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:03, March 14, 2024 (EDT)

I dunno, since it's not an outright remake, I don't like giving priority for that type of thing since one version will always be the "real" version in someone's eyes, for instance with the Mario & Sonic games and the console vs handheld versions of them (note I also don't like it when one of those Sonic games that get multiple concurrent releases with the same plot and basic assets get one version prioritized, like with Colors, Generations, Lost World, and especially Unleashed). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:31, March 14, 2024 (EDT)
Fair point. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:53, March 14, 2024 (EDT)
Yeah, fair point. Though honestly, it's kind of surprising. I leave this going for 2 days, and 6 other people have voted on it! "(note I also don't like it when one of those Sonic games that get multiple concurrent releases with the same plot and basic assets get one version prioritized, like with Colors, Generations, Lost World, and especially Unleashed)" Yeah, although there ARE Sonic Colors Ulltimate(which is one of those remakes that actually is somehow WORSE than the OG game/s) & the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations(yes, it's real), but then again, those are CONCURRENT releases. Though Wario's Woods is also a concurrent release in the US and probably Europe too, it's not in Japan. So that's a problem, which is the "OG", and which is the "remake/port"? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 07:18, March 15, 2024 (CST)
My guess: the Famicom version came out very late in the console's life cycle that it probably almost didn't release on the NES, and the condition to release it in the West was to make a SNES version. Possibly, the decision to skimp on the Super Famicom physical release was to cut on cartridge costs for the then-upcoming Satellaview (maybe not unwise, because if you can believe it, there was a time when SNES games like Wario's Woods and Kirby's Avalanche were sold complete in bargain bins). Solid development information on this game is scarce, though. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:50, March 15, 2024 (EDT)
