Talk:Tiny-Huge Island

I think the tiny/huge world switches in this level is comparable to that one level in the Super Mario Bros. 3 giant world, where doors lead back and forth from the normal and huge monsters and blocks. Does anyone know what level specifically it is? I remember it is one of the later ones in world 4.

No clue. And, yes, there is a comparison, Tiny-Huge Island may be in Giant Land. Max2 (talk) strangely, there's no giants... Or ARE there...

curiousEdit

That little island thing that has a post and a sign that says something about bearing no responsibility for people getting dizzy and passing out well I ran around it and five coins came out. Is that really all that is for. It took me like 15 tries to land on that thing.

Pretty much - Booster

strange butterflies?Edit

The tiny world has a spot where you step on it and it releases three butterflies. The spot is near the starting point (w/ the tiny goomba). I didn't know about this until a few days ago, but attacking one earns you a 1-up, while the others, if attacked, turn into floating black orbs that will EXPLODE ON IMPACT!!1! (I dunno if this is only on DS or what.) Neox 19:39, 16 March 2009 (EDT)

Its only on the DS as far as I know and it happens on every level in the game where there are butterflies.--Smileymiley5001 06:25, 23 February 2011 (EST)

EnemiesEdit

I always thought that the enemies were just regular enemies, only grown/shrunk. They're really a species? Hello, I'm Time Turner.

They are normal enemies in effect, but they're different.Sort of.--Smileymiley5001 06:27, 23 February 2011 (EST)

Five itty bitty secrets imageEdit

I don't think the image in Five Itty-bitty Secrets should be there. That mission is only in the original SM64, but the image is the one from SM64 DS. The mission didn't appear in the remake. Does anyone think the image should be removed?   Mario JC

OK, it's changed.   Mario JC

Star 4Edit

Sorry but let me get this straight - Star 4 appears exclusively in the Nintendo 64 version, and the other Star 4 appears exclusively in the Nintendo DS remake?--Launchballer 17:31, 16 April 2010 (EDT)

Yea.Its extremly confusing, but its true.I finished the DS remake twice over--Smileymiley5001 06:29, 23 February 2011 (EST)

Huge Island ScreenshotEdit

Is there a screenshot of the Huge Island? I'm too lazy to upload a file of that.  Happy Halloween!

Unobtainable coinEdit

Shouldn't we add info about that coin that is underground and cannot be obtained? That is, if it still can't be obtained. Espyo 14:52, 14 March 2011 (EDT)

What coin?  DKPetey99TCE

If I'm not mistaken, on the huge island, next to the tunnel where the iron balls spawn, there is a set of coins. Directly under that set, under the ground, is a lone coin. Espyo 15:31, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
Ok, I was a bit wrong. Here is a video. Also, check out this. Espyo 15:50, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
I added the info myself. Espyo 17:09, 14 March 2011 (EDT)

[1] Huh... which glitch page? Besides, I wouldn't exactly call that unobtainable coin a glitch... Espyo 06:13, 15 March 2011 (EDT)

Blue Coins from Big Goombas?Edit

Are you sure you can get Blue Coins from Grand Goombas? I was playing the VR version on the Wii and I was only getting Gold coins. Is there like another way of getting the Blue Coins from them or is it only for the N64 version?  YoshiGo99  09:46, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Ground Pound them.--Hyper File:YoshiRed-CSS2-MSS.png Yoshi 09:47, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Ok, I will try that.  YoshiGo99

I got the blue coin from a Goomba by landing from a spin from the helicopter thing nearby, where the cannon is.

Log IslandEdit

There is a small island (Huge Island) with a log and a sign. On the "Trivia" it says that you need to ground pound it to obtain 5 coins. Also, that running around it won't make any coins appear. However, I tried to ground pound it, and I didn't get any coins. I was playing the USA version. I tried to run around it, but I didn't get coins. In GameFAQs.com there was an advice that I followed, and it turned out to be useful. Don't run around or ground pound the log. Get in the red coins' area and then get out (it doesn't matter if you collect the red coins or not). Then run around the log and it will produce 5 coins. I know that it doesn't make any sense, but that's the case.Gomess 512 (talk) 12:27, 14 December 2017 (EST)

As the one who added the trivia and also owns a USA cartridge, all I did was Ground Pound it and Coins appeared. Didn't enter the Red Coin area at all before hand, but I did run around the log a few times first. Running around the log shouldn't produce anything, as it appears to be coded to act conversely from the others. I don't know why it didn't work for you. Has anyone else here done something differently (@other wiki members)?    12:31, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Okay, so I went back to it, and all I did was run around and it gave me Coins. Weird. Maybe it does something different depending on the star? (This was star 1)    13:30, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Results:
  • Star 1: Run around log for Coins
  • Star 2: Run around log for Coins
  • Star 3: Run around log for Coins
  • Star 4: Run around log for Coins
  • Star 5: Run around log for Coins
  • Star 6: Run around log for Coins
......................................................I have no words for this. Conversely, Ground Pounding did nothing. So, uh...... It just seems to be a standard log?    13:41, 14 December 2017 (EST)
I thought all logs would give coins if you did either of those things (but not both at once). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:26, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Usually, the logs would spit out Coins if they are ran around at least five loops. When I added the information about a year ago, this log was reversed: Ground Pounding gave out Coins. Now it seems to act like a normal log. I don't get it.    17:28, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Just checked the DS version, too, and that one also incorrectly functions correctly. Running around it gives you Coins, which is not what this one is supposed to do.    17:38, 14 December 2017 (EST)
And you can say for certain this is "incorrect" how, exactly? I'm really pretty sure either works for all the logs that give out coins at all. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:49, 14 December 2017 (EST)
No, usually, Ground Pounding a log would produce nothing. In the 20-some years I've been playing this game, this particular log has always gave out Coins upon Ground Pounding it, the opposite of the other logs. It seems like it was the devs' intention to make nothing happen when players run around the log here, as implied by the sign, but now, suddenly and randomly, it's giving out Coins like any other log?    19:30, 14 December 2017 (EST)
That high up island. The one that can't be jumped to the top from the water. And has very little running space to run around the log. First, how are you getting to it? Second, have you ground pounded it in the remake to see what comes out? Because, in the remake, you can ground pound any log and it gives coins just like running around it.   Yoshi the SSM (talk) 19:59, 14 December 2017 (EST)
I get to it by jumping on the Fly Guy on the beach.
Hm, so they do. I guess the DS version is a different case, but then why have that sign there?    20:10, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Wow! That is faster than going up higher and jumping down (at least on the big area as getting up there on small then using pipe is questionable), though Fly Guys only can be jumped off of once.
I guess that if someone tries to run, they might get dizzy and fall off, not getting the coins from the log. This is where going around it slowly helps.   Yoshi the SSM (talk) 20:15, 14 December 2017 (EST)
(Luigi's backflip in the DS version also works ;)) I guess the sign could be a trick to get the player to run around it, unknowingly getting rewarded for it. But for the log to just suddenly act different for the first time in twenty years makes no sense to me. ...Whatever, this discussion doesn't seem to be going anywhere. At the moment, it really just seems like a regular ol' log, so would everyone be fine with me removing the information on the page? Can someone please prove me otherwise?    20:19, 14 December 2017 (EST)
No opposition on it's removal. Question is, is the version you have/tested the N64 version?   Yoshi the SSM (talk) 21:05, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Tested both versions, but if every log in the DS version gives you Coins regardless of what you do with it, it's mainly the N64 one I'm worried about.    21:28, 14 December 2017 (EST)
Both N64 and DS versions, or N64 and Virtual Console versions?   Yoshi the SSM (talk) 21:36, 14 December 2017 (EST)
I don't use Virtual Console much. Anyway, the information has been removed. If for some reason or another this reverse log starts working correctly again, it can be added back.    21:40, 14 December 2017 (EST)
I forgot to mention that I was talking only about the USA N64 Version, not the Virtual Console or the DS versions. I tried to replicate my original findings. I was surprised to make the coins appear without getting in the red coins' area, or by using a ground pound. I tried a second time and failed to make them appear. Both times, it was on Star 1 (Piranha Flower). The second time I tried both clockwise and counter clockwise. I went to the red coins' area, run around and the coins appeared easily. I really have no idea of what to assume. The only thing that I see, is that, something random prevents the coins from appearing sometimes, and the red coins' area fixes it. I have seen two youtube videos with people that try to collect all 191 coins (I know about the extra coin), and the one collects the coins normally and the other one collects them after visiting the red coins' area. While this doesn't prove anything about the red coins' area, it proves that the coins spawn without the usage of a ground pound. I think that the most exiting thing is, that even after 20 years of its initial release, this game has still some secrets to unveil. So... the Log is real! Or not...Gomess 512 (talk) 14:18, 15 December 2017 (EST)
