conjecturalEdit

Since the title is conjectural, wouldn't it be a good idea to simplify it to Super Smash Bros. (3DS/Wii U)?
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 14:40, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

How exactly is the title conjectural in the first place, though? I got this logo from the SmashWiki, and there's a similar one for the 3DS version:

Pseudo-dino (talk) 14:54, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

It doesn't seem like... a title. It seems they put a "for" to differentiate the two games, not as part of the title of the game.
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 15:00, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
Yes, but it's the closest thing we have to a title for the time being, and it comes from an official source. Even if it's just a working title, it's not conjectural. Pseudo-dino (talk) 16:14, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
It's a working title, we should have something better before long. --  The 'Shroom 16:17, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
Should we keep the conjecture tag for the time being? It seems official enough to me (what if this actually is the official name, no matter how unlikely?), but obviously there's some disagreement. Pseudo-dino (talk) 16:25, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
We'll keep it, yeah. And even if it may seem official (it doesn't to me), it is not. --  The 'Shroom 16:27, 11 June 2013 (EDT)
Er, the conjecture tag was removed, and not by me. I agree with removal, again, since the name is sourced. Should it stay this way? Pseudo-dino (talk) 18:00, 11 June 2013 (EDT)

Another New Comer???Edit

I was just browsing the Super Smash Bros. 3DS/WiiU site and noticed space in the bottom right corner on the character roster, There's another newcomer to be announced!!!! -  Cubeguy(talk)

Update!! Further probing reveals through the roster reveals six more character slots!! There's defiantly one more newcomer!!! -  Cubeguy(talk)

There is a wide space on the bottom right corner, but I guess that's space for two veterans.
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 00:00, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
Well it could be, but it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to round the numbers of for the newcomers. Im hopping! -  Cubeguy(talk)
Empty space on the website has nothing to do with the amount of characters left to be revealed because the website scales according to screen size and if there aren't enough characters to fill a line, there's nothing else to put there and there will obviously be empty space left. TheMultiYoshi (talk) 18:02, 28 July 2014 (EDT)

Special characters for different versions?Edit

So i just rellised that there is no footage or images of the wii fit trainer on the 3ds version, so i have the feeling that there are certain characters on certain versions. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Forget that. -  Cubeguy(talk)

CharactersEdit

Just wondering. Would it be safe to assume that all of the original twelve would appear in this game? User:FireFlower

Probably, but it's best to wait until they're announced before adding it in. Yoshi876 (talk)

Even like Jigglypuff or Captin Falcon User:FireFlower

Yes, because they haven't been announced so it'd be classed as speculation and removed. Yoshi876 (talk)

We can already assume Ness Luigi and Sonic will return. It's Luigi's year, Mother 3 will be released in Europe. Nintendo have scored Sonic so he can return to the series royalty free. Plus they are working in adding many characters as possible so we will see many newcomers first party and 3rd party. User:Donaldthescotishtwin

But someone said that the characters would be limited because of the 3DS' capabilities, and so not everyone is returning. Yoshi876 (talk)

The game is still early in development is it not? Down the line eventually the 3DS version will have a smaller rooster but with more newcomers to replace characters that could not make it, and those will be the ones returning for the WiiU version. The 3Ds may have even more newcomers than the WiiU. There's also the possibility of DLC yes they are not considering it now, but they listen to the fans and they are able to now so it would be crazy not to have downloadable characters. User:Donaldthescotishtwin

That's a good point. It would be crazy if there was no DLC. And I don't know about Ness returning. We haven't seen ANY evidence of him or Lucas returning. Just because Mother 3 will be released soon, doesn't mean Ness will come back. And it's pretty obvious that Luigi's a playable character. He's one of Nintendo's best characters. It would be stupid to not have Luigi in. (Super65)

3D OOTEdit

Since the 3DS version has stages based on portable titles shouldn't we say gerudo valley is based of Ocrania of Time 3D?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by King Koopa (talk).

It mostly likly will but we wo n't know for quite awhile. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Forget that the stages where in the trailer. -  Cubeguy(talk)

It was said a long time ago that the characters are the same and the sages are different.

Wii Fit Soccer BallEdit

I believe that's part of Wii Fit Trainer's moves, not an item by itself. Look at 6:55 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQD1yJinzeQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=414s --Baconator (talk) 00:02, 14 June 2013 (EDT)

THE TITLE IS ANNOUNCED!!Edit

The title's are simple Super Smash Bros. One is for the 3DS and the other for the WiiU. Here is the link to the article containing it and a bunch of new inforamtion [1] -  Cubeguy(talk)

Ice ClimbersEdit

"Mentioned during a Q&A with Masahiro Sakurai as some characters being worked on, but may not make it."

This does not confirm them or deny them. He just used them as an example. So I do not think they should be there. Crash-Bash (talk) 16:55, 14 June 2013 (EDT)

Another three charactersEdit

If you go on the mobile version of the official website click on somebody scroll all the way down it will show characters go to the third page and it will show 3 empty slots!!! 68.149.81.38

Cubeguy already mentioned that, didn't you hear? Hearty_Laughter_by_KokinhoKokeiro.gifKingfawful4321

Yeah, im all other this like......um....when i was with Luigis Mansion 2. -  Cubeguy(talk)

The real question is, who will fill those 3 empty slots? Perhaps a few newcomers? (Super65)

Update ArtworkEdit

Shouldn't the artwork of all the characters be updated from the Brawl photos to the new ones released ? Jackpot Jordan 15:16, 19 June 2013 (EDT)

You mean for articles such as Kirby, Link, and Fox McCloud? I don't know, actually, but I feel that people won't let us change the artwork until the game is released.

@YoshiKong: Don't you mean something we don't' cover here? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 11:25, 22 June 2013 (EDT)
Yes that's exactly what I meant lol. After two work shifts in one day I don't think my hand-eye co-ordination is being careful with the keyboard strokes :P
  Shokora (talk · edits) 11:30, 22 June 2013 (EDT)
May i just say the titles of the games where announced earlier, which i posted here with the link to the article. Just saying we can easily dodge fan art covers as the names for both games is just Super Smash Bros. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Yellow Devil explanationEdit

I put Yellow devil on the page back during Megamans reveal trailer at E3, but i really didn't explain where he is seen. Frankly if it wasn't for a friend i wouldn't have noticed him. After the Smash bros. title at the end of the trailer, there is a small scene, a few seconds long, showing megaman about to face Yellow Devil on the Wilys castle stage, i dont know if it is apart of classic mode or the new adventure mode, most likely the latter. I hope this clears up any confusion. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Donkey Kong Country Returns stage?Edit

First of all why is this in the 3DS stage selection unless it's the 3DS version, and second could we move this to Other until it is actually revealed if its a stage or part of story mode. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Just mentioning that although there will be no story mode it could be part of an adventure mode. I agree, I think it should be moeved to Other. MarioComix (talk) 01:05, 9 August 2013 (EDT)
Adventure Mode? Story Mode? Whats the difference same thing, was a bit confused for a bit and started going on a pointless search. Also i recommend proper investigations in to stages from now.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cubeguy (talk).
Well I believe that Melee had an Adventure mode, which was just a unique single player mode with no real storyline, while Brawl had a true Story mode with cutscenes and all. I'm just saying that with the confirmation of no story mode and cutscenes, it's still possible to see an Adventure mode like seen in Melee. MarioComix (talk) 03:47, 12 August 2013 (EDT)
I remember though there being an article from an interview stating that all the story mode cut scenes would be unlocked from the beginning for some reason. im just putting this out there. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Now, are we SURE...Edit

Now, it says that as "Part of the Year of Luigi", Luigi will be a playable character in SSB 3ds/Wii U. Luigi appears in previous installments as a playable character, are we SURE that it's part of the YoL??? Iggy Koopa Jr (talk) 12:38, 9 August 2013 (EDT)

I don't think it is, considering the game comes out next year, after the Year of Luigi has finished. Yoshi876 (talk)
Well, seeing that it comes out in '2014, that's next Year, right??? Iggy Koopa Jr (talk) 13:59, 9 August 2013 (EDT)
Yep, that's basically what I said :P Yoshi876 (talk)

What it meant was that as part of the Year of Luigi, they announced him earlier than usual, since in the past games he was a secret character and would remain hidden for a while. MarioComix (talk) 17:19, 9 August 2013 (EDT)

Exactly. Luigi will make it either way. He's one of Nintendo's best characters of all time. He'll never leave a Smash Bros game by any means. (Super65)

Different Final Smashes?Edit

This looks similar to some kind of final smash. Is it just me, or does it look like a new Final Smash? Thats what I think. Goombob   08:14, 16 August 2013 (EDT)

If this was a new Final Smash, then that would mean they pretty much confirmed five-player mode with this screenshot. We will just have to wait and see. DK Fan
It's the X Bomb from Kid Icarus, it's a new item. Yoshi876 (talk)
That doesn't look like the X-bomb. Can someone confirm this, also if it is a characters smash then it wouldnt confirm 5 player support, honestly why would there be 5 players. -  Cubeguy(talk)
I can't get direct quotes from Miiverse, but this has the quote http://www.ssbwiki.com/X_Bomb Yoshi876 (talk)
I see it now, sorry for the inconvenience. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Multiplayer modeEdit

Does this have multiplayer mode??? Is it like NSMB2, where only local works, or like LMDM, where you can play online (3DS)???

Iggy Koopa Jr (talk)

Muliplayers one of the key aspects of the Super Smash Bros. games so it's not surprising if it is included. Though the process for playing multiplayer on 3ds where by its required for all participants to have a copy of the game or not is not known. These connectivity questions are usually answered towards the games release so just wait till then. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Split Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U into Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii UEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Do not split 1-11

I feel that these articles should be split - there's a lot of information and pictures differentiating the two, and even new sets of courses. This is NOT a remake like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is, and we have an article for that game.

Proposer: SuperYoshiBros (talk)
Deadline: September 14, 2013, 23:59 GMT

SupportEdit

  1. SuperYoshiBros (talk) Per proposal.

OpposeEdit

  1. Mario7 (talk) We should wait until we have more info on this game before splitting the page. There would also be a lot of duplicate information on each page. Also per Tails777.
  2. Megadardery (talk) Not until we got more information, probably the name will be changed. Otherwise per Mario7 and the guy underneath me.
  3. Tails777 (talk) Then we'd have to split the Mario & Sonic games since they have home and handheld versions. Per all.
  4. Iggy Koopa Jr (talk) We should wait more. They were announced at the same time, and have a lot in common.
  5. Tucayo (talk) - Per Mario7 and Tails777.
  6. GBAToad (talk) Per Tucayo.
  7. Cubeguy (talk) Way too little is known besides the systems individual graphics and courses. Everything else could be the same or not. Until both games are out they should be left alone.
  8. Scr7 (talk) I don't think the games have enough unique things to warrant their own seperate articles.
  9. Mario jc (talk) Per all.
  10. Mario4Ever (talk) Per Tucayo.
  11. driftmaster130 (talk) Not enough information to split it now, per all.

CommentsEdit

Now that I think about it - we have an article for Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, and that's nothing more than Super Mario All-Stars with a CD in the case. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 11:52, 31 August 2013 (EDT)

@Tails777: Actually the Mario & Sonic games are different too, so I'd also like to have them split. I'll probably make a proposal for that sort of thing. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:02, 1 September 2013 (EDT)

The policy does indeed call for the two games to be split, which must happen eventually (and perhaps with the gallery as well). But now isn't a good time. The amount of information about the game is still very limited, and it seems that the best thing to do is to have all the known info collected onto the one page as of now.
  Shokora (talk · edits) 04:27, 2 September 2013 (EDT)

If i may say, and this might not be of any use but something to keep in mind, is that both games are not coming out at the same time. The one that comes out first, most likly the WiiU version as a large portion of images and video seem to come from it, will come out allowing development on this main article which if the splitting does happen at a later stage, is no real big deal as the article weill be more aimed at the version that was first released. Just saying to keep this thought, possibility in mind. -  Cubeguy(talk)

We'll try our very best to maintain clarity between both articles. And besides, it's not as if everyone will choose the Wii U version over the 3DS one: in the long run I think they will both become as complete as each other. Ohhhhhh I'm so excited!
  Shokora (talk · edits) 07:19, 4 September 2013 (EDT)

What did choosing have to do with anything i said? I was just making a hunch due to the amount of media that was focused on the WiiU version. -  Cubeguy(talk)

This is called Super Smash Bros. 4 by SmashWiki, so why do we say SSBF3DS/WIIU?!?!Edit

The Mario series is less represented in this game and the title is goofy. There's no relation to the title by Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong, so why call it this dumb title? Also, the Fake ? Panel should be called ¿ Panel instead. But only ONE stage based on Mario appears, and that is Super Mario 3D Land?!?! That's it! ¿¡@& this title and just call it Super Smash Bros. 4.

UnshyGuy

It's called this, because at this current moment in time it is its official name. Yoshi876 (talk)

Im just adding this, but it was never actually called SSB4 at all, its been Super Smash Bros. For 3DS & WiiU since its announcment. -  Cubeguy(talk)

"Other Characters"Edit

I had removed this section in a rewrite before because there is really no confirmation that they are characters. For all we know, they could serve different purposes within the game, such as stage "objects," Assist Trophies (should those return), bosses, or items. It also kind of strikes me as inconsistent to list them as characters and format it differently from other sections about characters. · SMB (Talk) · 20:10, 28 October 2013 (EDT)

Indeed, it seems like speculation to list them as "characters" when they could actually be, as you said, another element such as stage object. But we're not yet sure how they appear, but nevertheless they do. So it would be acceptable to list them as "others", and their role within the game can be elaborated on as more information becomes available.
  Shokora (talk · edits) 03:33, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
It does make sense to include them in a manner similar to the one suggested– not including them at all would render the article incomplete. However, my one concern is that "others" is a little too generic as its own heading (like, other whats, exactly?). I think it would be acceptable if there was something else a little more specific but that does not indicate them as characters yet. · SMB (Talk) · 03:49, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
That's true. Having a separate header titled "Others" wouldn't seem logical. Perhaps, as we use "Others" under the stages header to describe unidentified stages, we could have "Others" listed under the characters header. Or alternatively, we could have two separate main headers: "Playable characters" and "Other characters".
  Shokora (talk · edits) 04:10, 29 October 2013 (EDT)
We could add something along the lines of "The roles of these characters is unconfirmed at the moment" under the header. Or just call it "Unknown Characters". Just throwing out suggestions. ---Skittles
Since we got rid of "Others" under the "Stages" header, perhaps we should just go with the separate "Other characters" header as YoshiKong suggested and add a disclaimer like Skittles suggested. Should the section be formatted in a list (as it was before) or in tables (like most of the other sections are)? If we go with tables, we will need to get images of the "other characters." · SMB (Talk) · 16:55, 4 November 2013 (EST)

Donkey Kong Stage not confirmedEdit

This stage has not been confirmed as an actual stage, and thus it has been titled as "other" since there is no real evidence supporting it as a stage or a section of the adventure mode. -  Cubeguy(talk) BOO!!! ^w^

Your solution is inconsistent with your argument behind it. You say that this area is not a confirmed stage, yet you classify it as an "other stage." It is either a stage or it is not. Also, we classify stages either as being in the 3DS version or the Wii U version of the game– an "other" classification in this instance would indicate that it can be something other than a 3DS or Wii U stage, which is not possible. From what I understand, this area is in the 3DS version, so we have classified it under that section. · SMB (Talk) · 01:35, 30 October 2013 (EDT)
I agree with Super Mario Bros. It wouldn't make sense to list it as "other".
  Shokora (talk · edits) 01:57, 30 October 2013 (EDT)

I agree that its not the best thing to list it under but there just isnt enough informationt supplied to list it as a stage. The only info on it is a couple of seconds of just mario jumping on it. -  Cubeguy(talk) BOO!!! ^w^

But this fits the definition as a stage, regardless if you fight there in adventure mode or not. All settings you fight on are considered stages. This includes those levels in Adventure Mode in Melee, that counts as a stage. Same with the nonplayable Metal Cavern and Final Destination level in Super Smash Bros. Granted, most of these are very big stages, but we don't discriminate.   Ray Trace(T|C) 15:54, 31 October 2013 (EDT)

Alternate Costumes Return? Maybe, Maybe not....Edit

So ran across this article and thought id bring it to light. [1] It has the male version of the wii fit trainer but doesn't confirm it actually being ingame. -  Cubeguy(talk)

What's the source of the image? We need more information before we say that the male version of Wii Fit Trainer even exists in Super Smash Bros. 4.
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 18:59, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
I think I've seen it on the Smash Bros. official website. Yoshi876 (talk)
Oh, I haven't visited it in such a long time, so please refresh me. Even then, we shouldn't jump to conclusions.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:03, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
That was the daily SSB4 pic that Sakurai posted on Miiverse on the 31st of October, I believe. Icemario11 (talk)
Hm, if it's true, then it's more likely an alternate skin (and probably a different set of voices) than a separate character. It would be weird if there is only a female version of the Wii Fit Trainer.
  It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:07, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

Name of the Super Mario Galaxy-based stageEdit

As Sakurai have mentioned in his Miiverse page, the official name of the stage is "Mario Galaxy". So shouldn't we change the name of the unknown stage from Super Mario Galaxy to "Mario Galaxy"?   --Csrspirit (talk) 02:49, 10 December 2013 (EST)

for the Galaxy stage is Mario Galaxy, according to SmashWiki.

Release DatesEdit

While checking the list of games, I've noticed that the release dates for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U are set as 2014/08/27 for Japan, and 2014/08/31 for North America. Do we even have a source that proves this?   M&SG (talk) 13:59, 25 December 2013 (EST)

Re: ZeldaEdit

Just confirmed, I know, and I saw an image of her with a Phantom from Phantom Hourglass. Think it's a new trophy, or somehow a sign of something else altogether? Lord Grammaticus (talk) 01:48, 26 December 2013 (EST)

I have a feeling it's part of her moveset, since the Phantom seen is pinkish, which is the colour of the Phantom when Toon Zelda is controlling it in Spirit Tracks. Also, I find it unusual that basically none of her pictures show off her attacks. MarioComix (talk) 01:53, 26 December 2013 (EST)
You say thay like we didn't wanna see Peach stealing Link. :y
But yeah, definitely noticed, which is why I asked. We'll probably get attack images and/or more Phantom-related details in the next few days. Though Zelda pulling a Jojo with her Phantom form would be amazing, pipe dream or not. Lord Grammaticus (talk) 02:03, 26 December 2013 (EST)

Starfy confirmed as assist trophy?Edit

Nothing said he was confirmed as an assist trophy!   Peteyking

Bar the source that I provided that shows a link to MiiVerse items, where he is under the sub-section of Assist Trophies. Yoshi876 (talk)}

Yeah, but is that actually Miiverse or another source. The Smash Wiki says he's not a assist trophy.   Peteyking

SmashWiki doesn't know everything, and the source seems pretty reliable. Yoshi876 (talk)
Smash Wiki lists him in the Assist Trophy template. SeanWheeler (talk) 22:08, 29 December 2013 (EST)

Wii U Control optionsEdit

The main article page states that the Wii U can use Gamepad and Pro Controllers. I'd like a source for Wii Remotes and Nunchucks not being an option.

Wario?Edit

With the announcement of Waluigi as an Assist Trophy, is that sufficient confirmation that Wario is a playable Character again? 3D Player 2004

No because Nintendo themselves never said anything about it.   Tails777 Talk to me!

You have a point there. But remember, this game still has a long ways till it's released, and since Waluigi is once again an assist trophy, there's no doubt Wario be something in this game. Whether it's an assist trophy or a playable character. But for now, let's wait for more evidence. (Super65)

Ashley from Warioware is an assist trophy so he could be in the game as a hidden character. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

Alt StagesEdit

Just a dumb question, but why does our wiki list both variations of the Punch Out!! stage as separate stages instead of a single stage? It's a safer and honestly much better assumption given previous stages with similar mechanics (see: Spear Pillar).

In a similar vein, we also have "the city from Animal Crossing: City Folk" listed as a separate stage when it's just an alternate background for the new Animal Crossing stage. Like, wut. GBAToad (talk) 06:37, 13 March 2014 (EDT)

Adventure ModeEdit

"the game's Adventure Mode will be significantly different than the Subspace Emissary."

Has "Adventure Mode" been explicitly mentioned, or is it actually this Smash Run that has been revealed from the latest direct? I just need clarification.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:28, 8 April 2014 (EDT)

Super LeafEdit

I don't remember seeing the Super Leaf anywhere in the direct, could somebody possibly get a source for this, or is it just speculation? -Skittles

Nevermind, saw the source in recent changes. -Skittles

Ridley BossEdit

It was implied but not confirmed that he was a boss, and considering how much Sakuria was trolling during the direct, I think Ridley should be removed from the boss list until it's flat out confirmed.

King K Rool?Edit

I've found a scan of what would be a SSB4 game guide. I got it from IGN. [Click Here]. Is that a confirmation of King K Rool in this game?User:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig

It is REAL! The thread and the image were pisted in Feb 15, 2014. Long time before SSB Direct and Rosalina's miveset confirmation. Also, the moveset is 100% righy. I am sorty, but I am 80% sure King K Rool is the newcomer instead of Daisy (I hate this K. rool). Don't belive in me? take a look! User:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig
The moveset is only partially correct. Rosalina's confirmed moveset is:
  • Standard - Luma Shot
  • Side - Star Bits
  • Up - Launch Star
  • Down - Gravitational Pull
  • Final Smash - Power Star.

The one on there is:

  • Standard - I can't read it...
  • Side - Luma Short
  • Up - Launch Star
  • Down - Gravitational Pull
  • Final Smash - Power Star

Well, I guess anything's possible, but this is far from proof... So let's leave it as speculation for now :P Peanutjon (talk) 18:40, 22 May 2014 (EDT)
Ok. Also, the final smash in this smage says Luma Bolt, no Power StarUser:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig
Oh, I meant that, lol. On the other hand, I can't find any proof for Star Bits being a special move, or how to trigger the others (besides Power Star), meaning only Luma Bolt is definitely wrong. But still speculation, so... Peanutjon (talk) 18:43, 22 May 2014 (EDT)
Agreed. In a side note, Luma Bokt could be an beta name for Power Star, cause it summons lightning strikes beside the power star, am i wrongg?User:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig
Aside from the moveset being different, K. Rool's art is actually fan art that has been around for a while. ---Skittles
Nope, this art is a lot differentUser:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig

Definetely fake, Rosalina's final smash is the Power Star, not Luma Ball.

Pacman?Edit

I was looking around on a site until I found a link showing Pacman being playable for new smash bros games. Here's the link. Whoops, forgot to sign my signature User:Nintendoplayerawesome

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/11/e3-2014-pac-man-announced-for-new-super-smash-bros

I'm sorry, but there is NO footage of that whatsoever. Tell us when you have reliable proof. -   22:47, 10 June 2014 (EDT)

Well the information is new so there isn't going to be new images of him yet. The only proof I have are just these two sites seeming to confirm that he's in. The above link and this one. http://kotaku.com/pacman-is-a-character-in-smash-bros-1589074217

He could be added now or until we have more info but that's all I have. I'll try to look further into it.User:Nintendoplayerawesome

Game & WatchEdit

SO going off the pacman reveal, (TF2 Heavy) "which is no big surprise", but does anyone know if Game & Watch is back , he does appear at the end of the trailer, but he's used as a timeline example but it might also be another reveal since he has appeared in the series since Melee? Anyone got any other info? -  Cubeguy(talk)

It just shows that he debuted in the same year as Pac-Man. PikaSamus (talk) 15:04, 11 June 2014 (EDT)

I already stated that, after some thought he might be some of the locked unmentioned characters. -  Cubeguy(talk)

With the fact that he appears at the end of the trailer, it's very possible that Game & Watch is returning. (Super65)

SplitEdit

Shouldn't we split it into Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros for Wii U? they have diffiremt elements and names? I know it't already discussed but now that there is more info? Billy-Luigi Time!  15:00, 11 June 2014 (EDT)

We should still probably wait. PikaSamus (talk) 15:04, 11 June 2014 (EDT)

RidleyEdit

Wasn't Ridley confirmed as a boss on the pyro sphere stage in the boss explanation video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb35vh33Mb8 , heres the explanation of it so you dont have to sit through the whole video. -  Cubeguy(talk)

The thing is, it's not 100% confirmed. It hasn't been explicitly stated to be Ridley, and it's not like Gamexplain is working for Sakurai. MarioComix (talk) 05:10, 13 June 2014 (EDT)
the video is from Sakurai though. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Luigis Final Smash!Edit

Heres a link to a video with luigis final smash, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7ao5KReP8U , can someone add it to where it goes, at the current time my nets choppy -.- -  Cubeguy(talk)

I saw a guy on YouTube named Nathaniel Bandy. And he made a prediction on this game. And his prediction of Luigi's final smash is the exact same final smash that Nintendo has confirmed. (Super65)

Non-existent ArticlesEdit

I've noticed that a lot of the stages are in red text due to there not being pages for them. I tried to fix that buy linking them to the SmashWiki, but it got reverted back. The reverter said they were "future articles, therefore they should be red-linked." I see no reason to wait until October or December just to create a page, when there are already useable pages somewhere else. I suggest we link the pages to the SmashWiki for now, and until pages are created for them here on the Super Mario Wiki, then we keep it that way. Aidanzapunk (talk) 08:59, 26 June 2014 (EDT)

3DS Version ESRB Rating?Edit

When was Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS rated E10+ by the ESRB? When I checked the box, it was still marked RP. Though, I agree with the Nintendo 3DS version being rated E10+ and the Wii U version being rated T.--Tryloubliss (talk) 14:32, 15 July 2014 (EDT)

New mode?Edit

A target smash-home run contest-angry birds mashup, named target blast. Any info?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wario land 3 (talk).

- Well basically its home-run and target smash mixed together, when you hit the bomb it starts counting down from 10, you have till 0 to break the barrier and fling it at the targets before it explodes. The aim is to make the explosion destroy as many targets as possible along with causing the structure to destroy the rest. Put it simply angry birds but you only get 1 shot and its timed. -  Cubeguy(talk)

August 12, CoroCoro RevealEdit

I was just wondering. Wasn't there going to be some sort of video or article about the remaining characters and stages for the game? Secondly, I saw that this idea was scrapped and that there was not going to be any information distributed. Is it going to happen or did they jump the gun on this? User:FireFlower

Oh that, that was never specified to reveal the remaining stages and characters, its a list of all the current stuff like the wiki page here, some people got over hyped and purplemonkeydishwasherd it. This happened with Brawl as well if im correct with the same company. So, yes the article will happen just not with the information people want. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Wario: Is this valid proof?Edit

http://nintendonews.com/2014/07/wario-super-smash-bros-3ds-eshop/

can't locate this on my eshop, although that may be due to being in a different region. You could say its valid, but its probably just reference since he was in Brawl. To sound like an old record just wait till actual word from Nintendo comes out, rater than from articles with speculation. -  Cubeguy(talk)
It was on the American eShop and was removed shortly after people saw it. Personally, I think it is real, but it'd be best to just wait until Nintendo officially announces him. Icemario (talk)
So... Anyone to make the final verdict, or are we going to need a poll? Toadbrigade5 (talk) 14:26, 16 August 2014 (EDT)
We don't need a judge and a poll would be a waste of time, we're better off just waiting until he's officially confirmed. Icemario (talk)
Both Waluigi and Wariowares' Ashley appear as trophies so he's most likely in. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

Because Nintendo has not officially confirmed anything, I don't think we should add it to the wiki yet. MarioComix (talk) 01:36, 26 August 2014 (EDT)

A similiar thing happened awhile back with these characters along with ness and the duck hunt dog being playable. Again like everyone else its better to just wait till Nintendo or someone wiht the japanese version tells us so. Although its a bit odd for nintendo of america to pull the videos down, so they could be real, but i'd still wait till where given the word. -  Cubeguy(talk)

I think this should end up in the rumors page, even though now it's leaked. Surprised that Geno isn't in the list.  TSUNAMI

This footage was probably made so realistic it makes people wonder how it could be fake, as far as I know. This could be like the rumored DLC characters for Mario Kart 8. Tsunami, I don't think this makes the rumors page because it isn't common enough like the insistence of Luigi in 64, and who knows, maybe it is real. But... I don't think so.  BabyLuigi64
OK, so, as for now, let's just put a ?. Because fanon is already able to do models and textures (Icy Thwomp Ruins). And they could have already boosted to HD too. I dunno, I find out of this today, so I didn't see any video.  TSUNAMI

Sorry, but I don't understand you. If you haven't any pic, let's just put them as text under the table of the respective game.  TSUNAMI
I'm asking for someone to provide actual evidence that these stages are in the game, since these stages where part of a supposed leak, which someone has jumped to the conclusion that they are in the game because of shulk being announced. Ganondorf?Edit

There's a possibility that Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda series is in. Nintendoplayerawesome (talk) The proof is this video.

Well this is visual proof from an official source, though I'm not 100 percent sure if we will add it. I for one think we should, but that's just me.   Tails777 Talk to me!

The consensus right now is to simply wait for the game's 3DS Japanese release, it's not that far off.  Paper Jorge (Talk·Contribs)

Pikmin & AlphEdit

So does this go into new characters? It seems he's an alternate costume to Olimar, but he has his name and such when he battles that makes him look like his own thing Pic

This was from a Demo Event out in Japan - Solarblade (Talk) 04:14, 07 September 2014 (EDT)

It could be true... unless it is photoshopped like MK8 fake DLC. If you look closely, the others have alternate costumes too. Rosalina (& Chiko! Wut? ) turns in Fire Flower form (red instead lightblue) Link looks like possessed by something, Diddy Kong is the new Dixie Kong and Olimar takes a break and gives Alph a try . Anyway, I would wait for a confirm. 3 characters have been already leaked, so they may have started with this, though this is unlikely, counterthough the site where the photo was allows to custom them. so it may be fake, but I didn't check any demo or stuff. I also wonder why Rosalina (& Chiko, never forgot) has Japanese name and the others don't. Width problems?  TSUNAMI
It is, it's from a guy who has been playing the demo the last two nights giving a LOT of information. Those are some of the alternate outfits (and Chiko is the Japanese name for Luma. Others are Fierce Deity Link and Diddy has had that color since Brawl. - Solarblade (Talk) 13:14, 07 September 2014 (EDT)

If any of what you say be true, then provide video proof, and by video proof i mean actual gameplay from the the guy, its alot harder to fake and to keep it up to date then. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Well, now it's official from the recent Famitsu magazine Pic - Solarblade (Talk) 13:47, 10 September 2014 (EDT)
That is an alternate costume? I don't know Japanese, but it was in the corner of the different colored Olimars.  TSUNAMI

Well its confirmed Alph is in the game, but is one of olimars variations and can't use rock pikmin apparently, the names do change though, now how to list this since he isnt his own character. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Sooner or later an alternate costumes section will come, and we'll list him there. NOT in Newcomers, even though it is.  TSUNAMI

Time to split?Edit

I think we have enough information to be able to make clear distinctions between the 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros. games, and I think it's high time we distinguish them as two separate games. Basically, the only thing these games share is the character roster and items. Everything else is different. Most of the stages are unique to each console, each boasts different version-exclusive features (Smash Run for 3DS, Amiibo support for Wii U as for instance), and most importantly they aren't being marketed as the same game, unlike other cross-platform Nintendo games like the Mario and Sonic series. At this point, it's apparent that the only connection between these games is the sharing of character customizations. They are individually named and don't share a title, these are definitely two separate games and not a cross-platform version of the same game. They're not being released together, so at the very least we need to specify that these games aren't a unified cross-platform title.

I know we had a poll for this about a year ago, but we said we'd wait until we knew more about these games and now we do know a lot more, so it's something we need to re-consider. Mariofanatic64 (talk)

I would wait until both games will be released and someone of the wiki plays both. If they have enough differences, MAYBE split. Maybe because the games have been treated togheter for a very long time, and the bond brokes only with the anticipied release of the 3DS version in the confront of the Wii U one that should exit in 2014. And having an old poll doesn't mean it's done. It can be reproposed every 4 weeks. So, wait until we see enough differences, someone please list them here and MAYBE this could be a disambig to the 3DS and Wii U versions. But, not yet. Nintendo reveals a lot, but not everything, so wait until it's proven the game are partly completely different.  TSUNAMI

I must disagree with your amiibo claim, they can be used on the 3ds with a wireless add-on, or in the new 3ds case the bottom screen, also the 3ds version has been the main focus that not alot is known about the wiiu version, theres also this consideration of DLC floating about the interwebs. But back to my main point both versions use amiibo's. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Maybe he was saying from start in the Wii U (due to preinstalled things in the GamePad), while you have to wait for 2015 (2014 in Japan) to use them in the 3DS version. Still, there aren't enough differences to split them up, so wait for the game to be released! At least in Japan. It's only some days away.  TSUNAMI
I think you meant to say after the wiiU version. -  Cubeguy(talk)

We don't have confirmation the 3DS version will be compatible with Amiibos at the moment. We know the 3DS will be supporting Amiibos in the future but Smash 3DS hasn't specifically been confirmed to support them, just Smash Wii U. Mariofanatic64 (talk)

Uhm. They should be put as reference, as always. YouTube isn't allowed within articles.  TSUNAMI

Bowser jr. variationsEdit

This came up in the following article, http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38484/multiple-new-smash-bros-characters-confirmed, Bowser Jr.s alternates are the other koopa kids, so they'll need to be added to where ever alph's going. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Should be noted the other koopa kids have a diffrent victory animation to Bowser Jr. -  Cubeguy(talk)

No they don't Cubeguy, they share taunts, Final Smash, and victory poses with Bowser Jr, the only thing unique about them is their model, voices, and names. User talk:RosalinaWitch

That leak was realEdit

Re cap. The leak everyone hated was real. Question: Does that mean the DLC characters IZAT TRUE mentioned might also be real?

They were Ice climbers, Lucas, Wolf, Snake, Chorus Kids, Mewtwo.

Maybe this can be noted in trivia or incorporated to the article.Toadbrigade5 (talk) 19:17, 11 September 2014 (EDT)

The person who claimed there was DLC stated it was a joke, but Nintendo may do it, who knows, but whether the character leaks should be mentioned or not in the trivia is probably a good idea, im not entirely sure though it does seem worth noting but.... -  Cubeguy(talk)

You have to remember the DLC stating guy was the guy who made the leak.If he was revealing true information, why would he lie? And with all the new characters, isn't it strange these six didn't appear? It's hardly coincidential. Toadbrigade5 (talk) 21:49, 11 September 2014 (EDT)

The above website also mentions these characters as likely not returning... Which almost backs up the fact.Toadbrigade5 (talk) 21:51, 11 September 2014 (EDT)

  • Leak: I really don't know what to do with this. The wiki doesn't cover fanmade (otherwise like half of the articles will be fanon), but this story really needs a citation. What to do... rumors page? It seems a good idea.
  • DLCs: we can't be 100% sure. It is very likely the guy was right (and I think so), but he may had only a great luck (though unlikely, he had short gameplay). Well, so I see that someone is already disappointed by the 6 missing characters (me too, why cutting off Mewtwo?), but at this point it is likely that Nintendo, in the future, may release DLCs, just like they did with MK8.
  • Another thing: The SmashWiki has this. If you don't want to check the link, it is about a tweet that says (Japanese) "Don't forget to add Geno from Super Mario RPG, Isaac from Golden Sun and Mega Man". Sakurai responded "2 out of 3", but the Tweet was deleted. Mega Man is in, but how about Geno and Isaac? At this point, I will think that hacks for including Geno again (already did for Brawl) will show up. It could also be not deleted but hided, or instead was an hacker's post. Or maybe it was the truth and either Geno (unlikely though, it is copyrighted by Square) or Isaac are still to be found by anyone. But since I see someone already have the game, maybe it will just took a while to unlock everything, like, a week. But at the end, only Nintendo knows.

Too much leaks. I will think that in the future they will only increase.  TSUNAMI

Its not six missing characters, the chorus kids never appeared before. I agree with you the guy is right, but Geno? Geno doesn't even belong to nintendo, appear only once in a single game, so... Sorry, don't keep your hopes too high.Toadbrigade5 (talk) 19:30, 12 September 2014 (EDT)
But it seemed well received (I like more Mallow though)... and it also appeared in Superstar Saga. Everything could happen, like the Koopalings, that were left after Superstar Saga and now are the stars of the moment, starting racing and smashing.  TSUNAMI

New stagesEdit

An F-zreo and earthbound stage have been shown on a stream. Luckly this article caught them, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137378-Super-Smash-Bros-3DS-Fan-Streaming-Early-Gameplay-Character-Leaks -  Cubeguy(talk)

StreamEdit

I watched part of the Stream (like 15 minutes). Here's some things 100% true (I don't lie):

  • Wario is officially confirmed. I watched it, and his Final Smash turns it again in WarioMan. Apparently Smashers can break the fourth wall by hitting the screen when launched out. Too bad I didn't get any pic, I didn't know how Twitch works yet.
  • This is the roster as of now:   The quality sucks, but it shows you some characters. Though, R.O.B. wasn't unlocked yet, so it's likely those things will soon cover the whole screen. In the center-low-right, we probabily have the Duck Hunt dog and Ness, but I'm not sure. The text is "READY TO FIGHT" (yep, slightly italic, also reddish).
  • This, instead, is the roster of stages:   I have not paritcolar comments, but I think that the unlockables will soon full the screen up.
  • I have a screenshot of one that in the chat says "Ridleay appears at 1000, my uncle told me. He's Nintendo." This is probabily a normal fanon comment, but who knows? BTW, 1000 is about the stages. You should have to do 1000 rounds to APPARENTLY unlock him. Though, you can do a round just by suiciding, so if you keep dying by falling, you should do round fastly.  TSUNAMI
Apparently all the characters listed are the final roster, on one of the streams after unlocking R.O.B another message came up congratulating the player for unlocking all characters. But Ridley should appear as a stage boss as he is in the game. -  Cubeguy(talk)
I am now sure that is the message I hate more. So Geno didn't make it... probabily that Tweet thing is fake, or either Isaac or Geno makes an appearence as unplayable, like cameo or boss. I still don't know a thing... why lefting some space at the angle? It could be easily filled, two characters aren't a lot.  TSUNAMI
I do agree that leaving spaces on the character roster is odd for a smash game, this could possibly be the DLC or some characters didn't make the final cut. -  Cubeguy(talk)
Completely agreed, but 2 characters for a DLC is a not enough. Unless they shrunk the icons, of course. Or maybe they are planning adding a lot of stages. Still there are costumes (Koopalings, Alph... everyone could be hiding).  TSUNAMI
Wouldn't it be 4 spaces? cause it seems to be 4 spaces. -  Cubeguy(talk) P.S i meant 6 spaces, plus the Mii player option isnt available on the character menu for multiplayer, theres an option for it before hand though. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Boss listingsEdit

Do we plan to list the boss's how we did with Brawl? -  Cubeguy(talk)

Why the heck not?  TSUNAMI

Unlocking WarioEdit

Wario's unlocking criteria is listed as Clearing the 100-Man Mode. However, in YouTuber Yoshiller's video, he clears Classic mode with Rosalina beginning at intensity 9.0 and is able to unlock Wario. Is it possible that there are more ways to unlock other characters? MarioComix (talk) 02:06, 14 September 2014 (EDT)

Very possible, considering that Brawl has multiple ways to unlock certain characters (for instance, you can unlock Ness by reflecting 10 projectiles, playing 5 VS matches, or saving him in the Subspace Emissary). But the footage isn't enough, since we don't know the specific criteria for that method.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 03:20, 14 September 2014 (EDT)

Shadow BossEdit

After beating Master hand in Classic mode a third boss turns up, the criteria for battling it i don't know. But according to some its name is Master Core. I'll list it as this until its fully confirmed. -  Cubeguy(talk)

OK, so SmashWiki is advanced. It already has this, with FULL DESCRIPTION! Learn more, and be disappointed from the end... and the info seems pretty reliable. Looks like we should be based from SmashWiki.  TSUNAMI

Difficult ratingEdit

Please check all the 3 pics!
Just wanted to point up the Trivia I put... This "Pot of Doom" appeared in Uprising to increase difficulty of chapters. The system was paying Hearts (in SSB speaking, Gold) to increase or decrease difficulty.
The Cauldron screen in Uprsing
2.0 is the normal one. You can decrease from 1.9 to 0.0 by paying Hearts (read as Gold in Smash language, OK?), and increase from 2.1 to 9.0. The following pic explains.
How 2.0 differs from 9.0 (pretty much)
See? The difference is a lot. I have to admit, 9.0 is very very though in Uprising. If you die the difficulty goes down by 1.0 normally. And when I tried it, I died twice, almost by the boss. Now, see this...
The difficulty screen of SSB4 3DS
I see, Mario got once more corrupted by gold. :) The bottom screen holds all the info regarding Gold (plus a Link throphy, unknown I think). I see, the meter of its own didn't change much. Maybe now the normal is 3.0, but I'm not sure, neither it's confirmed (someone should buy a Japanese copy). The most notable difference is that the meter is slightly expanded at sides and the 9.0 is purple instead of red. This means it goes further? Who knows, but I think a 10.0 will not harm.  TSUNAMI

Also, the system goes 0.0 to 9.0 just like in Uprising, and the image on the superior screen changes.

  • In Uprising, it shows more enemies but also more treasures at the sides.
  • In SSB4, it shows a devil that changes color based on the difficulty (and also aspect, the harder the bigger) and the playable character more determined to confront it. Also the chest at the sides contains more (I assume).  TSUNAMI

Jigglypuff's Palette Swaps and GenderEdit

Two of the eight palette swaps Jigglypuff receives are duplicates of Nurse Joy's cap and Serena's red hat with sun glasses from Pokémon X and Y. Could I add this to the trivia section on Jigglypuff's article? Secondly, I cannot track nor remember the sources however I read that all of the Pokémon representatives receive genders: Pikachu, Gredinja, Charizard, and Lucario being male and Jigglypuff being female. At this point we should make a giant table that lists all costumes (NOT palette swaps, they are complete change of color). I manted to make it early, but now we need it. No, no trivia at all. I think about listing the costumes on the respective articles too.  TSUNAMI
Then it ought to be started. There is a video that shows all of the character swaps and all of the alternate character costumes. I believe we should use that as a source since it provides all the information that we need. User:FireFlower
What is it? Also, retailer lists Wii U versions for 21st November, proof  TSUNAMI

Character unlocking criteriaEdit

YouTuber Yoshiller has uploaded more videos of his Classic mode playthrough, and it really puts into question the character unlocking criteria. He's used Yoshi to unlock Lucina, Little Mac to unlock Jigglypuff, Bowser Jr. to unlock Duck Hunt, Wario to unlock Ganondorf, and Mii Fighter to unlock Mr. Game & Watch. This really calls into question the unlocking criteria for at least these characters, so I think further investigation is needed for this matter. MarioComix (talk) 04:41, 15 September 2014 (EDT)

Are they in order? This time I'm pretty sure an hacker is needed to browse through the criteria. What we need? Everyone, try a random character in Classic mode and see what you unlock. They, though, may be at random just like in MK8.  TSUNAMI
So i investigated this further, with classic mode its not really character specific more of difficulty and number of times classic is cleared on said difficulty or higher, since there are alot of youtube video put there and none of them seem to be a continuous play only on screen, Tsunami may be correct about the characters unlocking randomly from this. -  Cubeguy(talk)

QuestionEdit

I have see on YouTube that the unlockable characters must be challenging and defeated for be unlocked in the first criteria. But in the second criteria (after have play a number of matches), they are unlocked without be challenging or not ?

109.213.21.127 16:07, 15 September 2014 (EDT)

After any unlock criteria has been fullfilled the player must battle the unlockable and win to unlock it, as with every smash game. -  Cubeguy(talk)
I know, I means just only for the "every 10 matches", if the battle also happens or not. But if for example the player lose to battle Ness from "play 10 match"'s criteria, so he cannot fight him again by this criteria if chance missed ?
109.213.21.127 11:00, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
This is unknown.  TSUNAMI
If it goes by the old smash bros. rules just doing a quick fight should automatically allow you to face them again afterwards. -  Cubeguy(talk)
That need to be proved, Cubeguy.
109.213.21.127 15:43, 17 September 2014 (EDT)
Thus i said "if" at the beginning. -  Cubeguy(talk)
Okay, as I have only play Brawl at this time and I have unlock all of them from Subspace Emissary. Anyway, just one match or restart xxx matches, you means ? 109.213.21.127 15:04, 18 September 2014 (EDT)
Wut? Please explicate better, I don't understand. I think you will probabily have to do 10 match to have a possibility to face a random challenger approaching: if you win, unlocked, if you lose, you have a chance to combat a random non-unlocked opponent after other 10 matches. Does make sense, but is just theory.  TSUNAMI
I means; if for example I lose against Jigglypuff after 120 matches, can I face him again after one match or 120 again ?
109.213.51.159 12:57, 22 September 2014 (EDT)
If we can prove characters are randomly unlocked, I am pretty sure you can face an unlockable character every 10 matches/one Classic Mode round until all are unlocked. This is still theory! Someone should go playing the Japanese version.  TSUNAMI
I know for face unlockable characters every 10 matches or Classic Mode, but what I means exactly is in the every 10 matches, if I have fail to unlock Lucina for example, Lucina can be faced again after a new match (41 or + if I fail again) or no second chance for the every 10 matchs's criteria ?
109.213.51.159 10:51, 23 September 2014 (EDT)
No chance until 10 matches/Classic Mode clear, I'm afraid. But remember I'm still assuming this, and until someone doesn't confirm, we can't be sure. I'm also assuming none of the wiki is in Japan...  TSUNAMI
Confirmed, if you lose against a secret character after 10x matches, you can face him again after a new match. 109.213.58.98 18:13, 3 October 2014 (EDT)

Uhm... Doh...Edit

I suggest you to keep an eye on www.nintendolife.com, it has some notices. First, Nintendo confirms 21 November for Wii U release. Second, you can watch online rounds with Spectator Mode.  TSUNAMI

R.O.B. Region DifferencesEdit

I was going through the code for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and I realized that R.O.B. is likely to have a different Render for the Western Release of Super Smash Bros. He has two renders, one Western R.O.B. and one Japanese Robot, along with 2 versions of his Classic and All-Star Mode trophies, with the versions labeled '(us_en)' are his Western NES style for Classic and his Japanese Famicom style for All-Star, while the opposite is true for the the non-labeled versions. This seems to imply that R.O.B.'s render for the Western releases of the game will have him in his monochrome NES colours. As such, I swapped the picture of him shown in this article to reflect that change. If it comes to pass that the idea was scrapped, then I'll return the Japanese render to its place. User:RosalinaWitch

Because someone undid your edit, I think it would be best to leave it as the Japanese render for now, and if there ends up being a regional difference where the Western NES look becomes the default, then change the render. MarioComix (talk) 19:25, 18 September 2014 (EDT)
ROB used his Japanese colors in the international releases of Brawl, and will almost certainly be the case here. Even if it isn't, we don't know that; the Japanese render is used in the only version of the game that we have been able to see ROB in, so that will be the render used unless another is used in the NA release. ---Skittles
I disagree Skittles, because in the code for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, there are renders for both versions of ROB and then two versions of his Classic and All-Star trophies, both labeled as (us_en) and showing the NES look for Classic instead of the Famicom version and showing the Famicom version for All-Star instead of the NES look. Regardless, I'll leave the render be on the entry until the US release confirms which is used, though I'm holding by my theory that it'll switch to the NES look for its default similarly to what was the case for Mario Kart DS. I think the Famicom only stayed as the default in Brawl because they would have had to do 2 versions of the cutscenes featuring ROB if they had done a default change for ROB.
I also noticed that someone even removed the NES ROB render from the Gallery despite having doubles of other character without shadows or effects, etc...that one I'm putting back in because its as much an alternate artwork as a 'no shadow' variant at the very least..User:RosalinaWitch
Well, regardless of what the code says, it should stay as is, because we don't have a copy of the NA version with ROB in it. And as for the gallery removal, as it is, that variant of ROB is only a palette swap, which are not put in galleries. With overalls Wario, Alph, Wireframe Mac, shorts Shulk, and the Koopalings, they are alternate costumes with a different render than the original, which is why they are placed in the gallery. ---Skittles
The thing is, the words "Family Computer System" still change to "Nintendo Entertainment System", so since there actually is a full render for it, I think it should go in the gallery. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't think that all the other palette swaps have their own render for the entire character as opposed to the CSS box. MarioComix (talk) 03:00, 20 September 2014 (EDT)
I don't see how tiny text difference = different render worthy of being placed on the gallery. ---Skittles
Even so, the fact that there's a full render available should still justify its placement in the gallery, considering the other shadowed-vs-shadowless renders.MarioComix (talk) 03:28, 20 September 2014 (EDT)
I agree with MarioComix, if we're having the the shadow-less (and fireball-less Mario) variants of the normal renders, then we should have NES ROB listed as well. Technically speaking, he is an alternate costume that references something and Sakurai saw fit to give him his own Full Body Render, unlike all other alt-textures, with exception to Wireframe Mac and all 8 of Villager's alts (I didn't feel like uploading more then the first Female Alt, but all 7 alts have full body renders). Mark my words though, I am 98% sure that ROB's NES look will be his default when the game releases in the West and I would at least like to keep the alt render in the Gallery for easy reference when it comes time to change out the render in the main article. Characters should be ordered from starter to unlockableEdit

All the other smash pages organize the character roster from starting to unlockable. Should bother to do that?   Peteyking

Dry Bowser rules! (talk) already italicized unockables. They are fine they way they are.  TSUNAMI
I believe they should be ordered like that, but we should wait until both versions are released and the articles split cause we don't know if the Wii U version will have the same starting roster. Maybe more of the newcomers will be unlockable in the Wii U version.   Tails777 Talk to me!

I believe after the WiiU release we should order them from default to unlockable, no because it sounds logical but thats what we have been doing with all the smash games, along with character moves and a description of how the character plays. It should be noted also that this game has the most default characters available from the beginning, i know we should wait till the WiiU version as said, but i doubt that there going to alter the roster characters and which ones are unlockable, as its been stated numerous times that both rosters are the same for each version. -  Cubeguy(talk)

Split Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U into Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U attempt 2Edit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Don't split 5-11

I feel that it is about time that we split these 2 articles. With a lot more information now known about the games, it maked sense to try again with this kind of proposal. For example, the 3DS version has already released in Japan and will release in America and Europe 6 days from now. We also know about a lot more of the differences between the 2 games including how the 3DS version will have a exclusive mode in Smash run.

Proposer: 3D Player 2004 (talk)
Deadline: October 11, 2014, at 23:59 GMT

SupportEdit

  1. 3D Player 2004 (talk) per proposal.
  2. The Super Mario Super User (talk) I know they go together, but they are two different games with the same roster and different stages. Mario Kart 64 & Mario Kart: Super Circuit have the same roster, but does that mean they are together? I support being split, because I wanted this to happen for AGES!
  3. Tails777 (talk) We have enough information for the 3DS version to have it's own page and with the full release in a few days, I see no issue with splitting the two versions.
  4. Toadbrigade5 (talk) Per all, and that different games should have different pages. We have pages for remakes and such, so why not these?
  5. Mario7 (talk) The 3DS sections are rapidly growing, and there are many levels of headers, with most sections being split into a Wii U and 3DS section. If nearly every part of the page is split, it makes sense to just split the article. Plus, Nintendo has called them 2 games.

OpposeEdit

  1. Tsunami (talk) @Trainax: MK64 and MKSC are different games, why should they got merged togheter? The gameplay is different. Here the gameplay is nearly the same. Per BabyLuigi64, the only big difference is stages. And per Ninelevendo, you should really wait both version to be released. Or aren't you able to wait 2 months? And this case, in my opinion, is like most Pokemon games. They are treaten togheter due to minimal differences. OK, here the differences aren't minimal, but aren't enormous either. Enormous are the differences between MK64 and MKSC: that's why they are separate. Most of the info will be repeated in both articles if we split off.
  2. BabyLuigi64 (talk) I'm surprised we don't have more opposes here, but pPer myself in the comments, and therefore Tsunami.
  3. Randombob-omb4761 (talk) Per all.
  4. Baby Luigi (talk) This isn't the same situation as the Mario & Sonic games. Here, they are meant to be very similar, barring exclusive modes and such. Unlike the portable versions of the Mario & Sonic games, which use entirely different controls and take advantage of hardware differences such as touch screen or motion controls, Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS functions nearly exactly alike to the Wii U version of it. In fact, they're even meant to be intractable games, revealing how similar they are. If the fighters are significantly different from each other, it might have warranted its own page, but the 3DS version is nearly identical to the Wii U version at that. I think making a Wii U page is redundant at best, when we could simply use color codings and stuff to indicate which feature is unique to a specific version.
  5. Ghost Jam (talk) Per all. Not against revisiting when the game is released.
  6. Ninelevendo (talk) Per Ghost Jam.
  7. Koopakoolklub (talk) The games are too similar. Which everyone else already said.
  8. Cubeguy (talk) To similar and to early to assume they need to be split.
  9. Superfiremario (talk) Per all.
  10. Lumastar (talk) Per all.
  11. Magikrazy (talk) I think the games are similar enough to keep them as one article.

CommentsEdit

Hmmm... Seems to me the only big difference is stages to me.  BabyLuigi64

You should probably wait until both versions of the game are out to start discussing this. -   08:33, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

@The Super Mario Super User But, 64 and Super Circuit have SO much more differences, such as SC borrowing SMK elements as well, the three alternate-colored Yoshis, oh, and nothing close to the same amount of tracks. They are totally separate games which is made clear to someone like me who owns both. And most importantly, they were NOT advertised together, and definitely were NOT released on the same year. This article isn't distinguishing anything except the stages, so for now, and if nothing new (or only minor differences) comes to the Wii U version, I'm sure this should stay one article.  BabyLuigi64

I exactly writed the exact thing. Just 3 minutes after... ^_^'  TSUNAMI

I was thinking about splitting the two, but we don't have enough information for the Wii U version. Stages aren't the only major thing, the selling point of the 3DS is most likely Smash Run.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 15:13, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

Well honestly, that's the point of an upcoming game. They aren't supposed to have a lot of information. At this moment, its the 3DS version that making the article look bigger and it's pretty much acting as the central focus. Splitting the two will do better at showing the Wii U version is upcoming. In my opinion, it could get confusing on having a released game and an upcoming one in the same article for a solid (and assumed) two months.   Tails777 Talk to me!
I still think that there isn't enough information to distinguish the Wii U version from the 3DS version. When there is, I'd be happy to support. It's true that the 3DS one may look like the focus now, but there isn't much to be done about it; if we split now, that might look repetitive to the 3DS one.  BabyLuigi64
I don't see what's the issue. We can issue an upcoming tag on specific sections, similar to what we do with the DLC in Mario Kart 8. I don't think readers will find this too confusing. In fact, I think we might need a specific template regarding varying release dates for upcoming games, similar to how we have a template for partly conjectural names compared to all conjectural names   Ray Trace(T|C) 15:54, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

I'm staying neutral for now. I think we should consider splitting it again once both the 3DS and Wii U versions are released worldwide. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 18:04, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

@everyone What is turbing me is the info that has to be repeated, which is very long, about, like, half of an article. OK, stages are 100% different, 3DS has Smash Run and stuff, BUT the character cameos, characters, assistents and throphies are the same. This is too much info to be repeated... the Wii U version should have exclusive contents for splitting, but we're almost sure it won't.  TSUNAMI

If these are the major issues, then we have a text book editorial dispute here. These are solved ideally with talk page discussion and bold editing, and less ideally with a clean-up tag. --  Ghost Jam  01:54, 28 September 2014 (EDT)

This has popped up again and not only is the WiiU version still not out the english 3ds version isnt either, too early to be calling for a split still. -  Cubeguy(talk)

@Mario7 Even if Nintendo treats them separately now, this doesn't mean anything. OK, now we know everything about the 3DS version (beta included), but still little for the Wii U one. Now, since it will come out early in America than in the rest of the world (why) there is time to see everything regarding it. This, at the time, is an early split proposal: but if we can see enough differences (and not too much repeated info) I'm supporting the split. The more time passew, the more they seem differenciate  TSUNAMI

Exactly. They are indeed two separate games, but the reason they were together to start is because they are being released in the same year and have been advertised together. Once we have enough info for the Wii U version, we can split, but right now isn't the time to do it.  BabyLuigi64

Prepare to mass uploadEdit

Mine of alternate costumes pics: here I hope you will understand I was doing the same, but I was, uhm, busy at resting  TSUNAMI

Unlockable charactersEdit

Now that the game is out, could please someone check the unlock criteria? Right, we started recogizing them, but how about if they are randomly unlocked every 10 matches/1 round of any game? My request is to put there what and how you faced Challengers Approching (unlockable character), to see if the criteria is right or wrong.  TSUNAMI

Well i know for one thing i unlocked Wario before Falco and 2 matches after Ness, this happened right after i made a Mii fighter type and used it in a match. I will note that the bowser jr. and dark pit first criterias are correct. -  Cubeguy(talk)
I unlocked Falco before Ness too. I affronted it 3 times, Ness the 4th. Then I got Dark Pit at the 6th. I have another theory: you have the occasion to face a character every 10 matches/Classic Mode cleared with a certain character only ONCE. This may be horribily wromg but explicates 1) I played some matches but hadn't the occasion to face anyone. I never did 10 matches with the same character 2) I played Classic and All-Star mode with King Dedede some times, but I faced a character only once.  TSUNAMI
Wrong, as I suspected. Forget what I said above. Those facts, instead, should be true.
  1. Do the matches and lose versus a character. If you do, you should choose another, do 1 round and face it again (TO VERIFY: Does this work by choosing always the same fighter?)
  2. If you lose versus a character, next time you face it, it will be less powerful. It is helpful to principiants like me and means sooner or later you WILL unlock all characters if you're stuck to one.
What I didn't get is why I cleared Classic with different characters but hadn't any chance to face anyone  TSUNAMI
Possibly you havnt face them due to the intensity level. -  Cubeguy(talk)
May be. I am a noob to Smash stuff and play at 2.0, once at 3.0 for a reward. I unlock characters by matches. Once you face it once and lose, do another match with ANYONE and you have a chance to unlock the same again, easier than before to not got you stuck at unlocking progress.  TSUNAMI
Now I have other two facts:
  1. I've unlocked Jigglypuff by doing a 3.0 Classic Mode and choosing the harder routes (all red ones + black at the end).
  2. The game seems to remember how matches you need to confront with a character. After unlocking Jugglypuff, I did a match with him, then had the chance to unlock Bowser Jr.  TSUNAMI
For jigglypuff you must of completed its first criteria, for bowser jr. though you must have been 1 match off from his second criteria, since this logic would mean 1 unlockable character can cause a unlockable chain reaction. I also did a sollid check and matchs from other modes do not count towards the second criteria. -  Cubeguy(talk)
Equipment pieces? What are they? By the by, I unlocked Duck Hunt so I unlocked everything. I have to tell you two facts:
  1. Once you unlocked everyone, All-Star mode expandes so that they suit all of the unlockables. This means that Game & Watch, for example, WILL be in the first match series as one of the older Smasher. Same behavior with all the others.
  2. This doesn't work for Classic. As soon as you unlock a character you may face it in Classic, or have it as companion (what happened to me with Game & Watch).
  3. Fun fact: in the place where you can buy Throphies with Gold, Throphies you own are already colored, while Throphies you don't own yet are black-colored. Beware of wasting Gold by buying duplicates...
  4. @Cubeguy That wasn't a chain reaction. I was trying to get 100 "stars" in Versus to see if I would got someone, but I quit because bored. I would have likely did 9/10 matches, did another so triggered the unlock criteria.  TSUNAMI

Duck Hunt Duo?Edit

Any particular reason Duck Hunt is referred to as Duck Hunt Duo, the PAL name, on the article? Naming policy states we use the North American name of the dog and duck character, which is Duck Hunt. Magikrazy (talk)

Nobody said anything so I just did it to have it fit with aforementioned policy. Magikrazy (talk)

There is no reason. It's just that people haven't yet changed the name to keep up with the NTSC name.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:20, 4 October 2014 (EDT)
Ok, well now they don't have to. I just wanted to make sure policy didn't change or maybe there was a different reason.Magikrazy (talk)
This is one good reason why we shouldn't jump the gun when the release was so close. SeanWheeler (talk) 13:46, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Flat Zone 2Edit

The unlock criteria from flat zone 2 requires the unlock of Game & Watch AND the completion of the first challenge panel, both do not have to happen in any order it just requires both criteria to be filled. -  Cubeguy(talk)

New Stage for Wii U versionEdit

*Sonic imitation* Well, this is new. Aidanzapunk (talk) 20:12, 5 October 2014 (EDT)

Put this under unconfirmed. We don't even know if this is a stage. It may be a Wii U-exclusive mode (it talks about some rare rules to the Smash Bros. series, so I'm not 100% sure it's stage). Just put under unconfirmed for now (don't know where, there isn't a such section)  TSUNAMI

Final DestinationEdit

I think we should have separate pages, for final destination. File:MarioSMA4.PNGGold Yoshi  14:05, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

I hardly believe it's a good idea, but if you really want so, make a TTP about it  TSUNAMI
Yeah, since we would have to do that to Mario Circuit too. ~~ Boo4761
No need to make separate pages for a version that's essentially just one big, flat platform.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 23:45, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Fix needed for Lucina criteriaEdit

In Miiverse, it is say that Lucina can be unlocked with one Fire Emblem character, not only Marth, and can you puts unlocked stages's name in italic.

http://smashbros-miiverse.com/characters/lucina

109.213.51.165 14:30, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Uhm... to first face Lucina you need matches or the uncertain criteria we have. I first faced her with King Dedede. Thanks for the table. You can't edit because the page is subject to IP vandalism often, e.g. "ridley is unlocked after 1000 matches nintendo told me" or "WHY GENO ISN'T THERE LOL". Anyway, for anyone who don't understand why to unlock Flat Zone 2 you have to complete the first panel, it's because the challenge is in the second panel, which is unlocked after completing the first.  TSUNAMI

I know, but I means about this criteria "Clear Classic Mode as Marth without using continues" which must be "Clear Classic Mode as one Fire Emblem character without using continues" (as Miiverse said). 109.213.51.165 15:01, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Are you sure about it? I'm not sure everything that circles in Miiverse is truth. Did you tried yourself?  TSUNAMI
Unfortunately, I have unlock Lucina with the second criteria, I cannot prove.

Set opponentsEdit

In 100-Man Melee, I believe every character has set oponents, e.g. Dedede, over the horde of 96 Miis, faces as 25th spawned enemy Diddy Kong. That happened 4 times, so I believe it is set. Not that only: 50th spawned opponent is a bigger Fox, 75th is a normal Meta Knight while the 100th and last is another copy of your character (?), in this case, King Dedede with another costume. Worth noting, trivia fact, or material for Smashwiki?  TSUNAMI

I think it should be saved for SmashWiki. Magikrazy (talk)
Gotcha. BTW, I forgot to tell that the last opponent is giant, NOT normal sized. I forgot to write it  TSUNAMI
Although this has been finished i should note that the characters face are random just sometimes the same ones will turn up. I have had a few 100 man smash that resulted in me facing the the mirror around or before the 25 mark. -  Cubeguy(talk)

R.O.B.Edit

Do we have a picture of R.O.B.'s default color? The current pic we have is of R.O.B.'s gray palette swap for some reason. Magikrazy (talk)

Never mind. I didn't realize the colors are different in the american version. Magikrazy (talk)

Glitch (?)Edit

Today I was playing as Peach in Classic Mode, Intensity 2.0, and got to Master Hand. Lost a stock, and nothing intresting up to the end. He had 14 HP, and Peach (with a Normal, I guess, don't think it was an Up) drained them up, most likely to exact 0 HP. He was still alive, but died about a second after normally (I got trolled). This should be noted in the glitch section or it's a strange routine?  TSUNAMI

Yet another glitch (lucky me)Edit

So, I was toying around in Training Mode with Ness versus Rosalina with the input of standing still in Pictochat 2. Generated a Smash Ball, breaked it and use PK Starstorm. KO the Luma, but not Rosalina (to see if Polari would show up again, since I see him once for real). When done, the terrain was wetty and both were sliding over, but there were no pictures. Then, a picture of a faucet dropping water. This is a glitch, and I know why: the pictures should cancel themselves when you use the Final Smash. The effects, in this case, started, but the picture showed late.  TSUNAMI

Wouldn't really count it as a glitch, iv tried replicating it and its just the stages animation being put out of sync from the "activating final smash" animation, it seems to work with each image on the level. I would also like to point out that these glitches your listing are more of just game lag than an actual glitch. Glitchs are usually something that shouldn't happen. E.g the online ban glitch, any of the Luigis mansion 2 glitchs, breaking level boundrys, breaking textures, etc.-  Cubeguy(talk)
But the effect showed up as soon as finished. Means that, with the picture of Donkey Kong, you would have been hitting by an invisible barrel. And it isn't lag. Tell me why it showed after about 5 seconds at full speed  TSUNAMI
It basically means the game has a hard time catching up with everything going on. It isn't really a glitch, that would involve something like Master hand transforming into Master core underneath the stage for no apparent reason. -   01:25, 13 October 2014 (EDT)
Oh, that explains everything. I understand if it's a system problem (hoping the new 3DS hasn't got these problems), and this explains the glitch before this section. But, if the cardtridge is not always at full speed, shouldn't be noted somewhere? It explains late happenings of every kind and bewares everyone to be calm about those facts - it's just the system's fault. Also, I tried again and the late event seem to trigger only with that, dunno why, this can also be a simple misprogrammed thing  TSUNAMI

Someone made a (stupid for telling the truth, no offense) petition to port Sm4sh 3DS to PS Vita. While I'm quite sure this will never happen, should it be covered in reception? I'm not sure since we don't cover, uhm, not Mario games in Nintendo consoles or not arcade Mario machines stuff.  TSUNAMI

Laughed a bit too long at this, but its highly unlikely it'll happen since Nintendo and Sony have abit of bad history, it doesnt really need to be mentioned, unless by some impossibility it does happen. -  Cubeguy(talk)

A question about it, does he really need to buy both versions "in same time" for gets the free DLC ? Because I have buy the 3DS version alone.

It seems that in order to get Mewtwo free, you have to get both versions otherwise I'm sure there would be an alternate deal too.   Nintendoplayerawesome (talk)

I'll make it clear: as stated multiple times in the article and as far as we can assume, you must buy both versions, then register them (even separately) in Club Nintendo. As a friend of mine stated, you need the code that's in the retail box: if you download them there should be no code (that's what he stated, I never downloaded anything so I can't prove). There is currently no limit: if I got it right, you should be able to get Mewtwo even some day after his release. Those are the instructions as of now.  TSUNAMI

It's gonna happen.Edit

Dlc mewtwo? Eh? Sound familiar? Well that leaker who everyone hates, but actually proved ganon, bowser jr, and even Shulk, said Ice Climbers, Lucas, Wolf, Snake, Chorus Kids and Mewtwo, and none of them are in and bun dun da dum: Mewtwo confirmed for dlc. Does anyone think we can call this guy trustable? I mean, COME ON!!! All his stages and trophies and characters got in, why on earth would he lie about the dlc? AND HE HAD GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE. I for one, trust that they will return. How about you?Toadbrigade5 (talk) 19:31, 23 October 2014 (EDT)

Nintendo just released 250 pictures one day ago. They're containing a lot of information, the sizes of the Smash Tour boards for example. The links for the picture gallerys (on imgur): Smash Bros Pictures Part 1 Smash Bros Pictures Part 2 Mic

Oh my. But I won't upload all of them. Beware it takes time to see 250 pics and choose intresting ones.  TSUNAMI

As long as the page remains merged, at the top of gameplay will be a great placement. If it got split, I think it can still stay at the top too.  TSUNAMI

More leaks for Smash?Edit

Mewtwo is in, and we all know that. Then there is a stranger (I don't know what's that. Wolf? Or what?), Bandana Waddle Dee and a blond guy I don't know... in the comments the uploader said to show gameplay Saturday. Let's wait Saturday. Or maybe, it was just a random leak and the uploaded hacked the roster. Depends. The icons seem legit though, but with all these leaks I can't rely on anything.  TSUNAMI
There's Mewtwo, Wolf, Bandana Dee, and Isaac from Golden Sun. I personally don't think this is real considering how zoomed out Wolf and Isaac seem. MarioComix (talk) 03:30, 27 October 2014 (EDT)
If you look closely you can see its a photo that they took, (besides the odd placement of character positions, cause why change the first and second row when no characters from there are being added?), the person who did this didnt line the image up properly and you can see the transparent background used in Photoshop up the top near wario, (i know they say they have a problem with there ds but whats a better excuse they could have of used), also they dont show the bottom screen, but from what you can make out of it, it isnt the character select screen, its in fact the one from the 3ds's photo application, you can see its a cream colour and not the black thats found on the character menu, (Did a test copying the guy, Smash Bros character menu does not turn white when tilted even on camera), i mean the other leak actually showed the bottom screen if this was real the bottom screen would have been shown, why go to the trouble to hide it? Why use a digital camera and not the supposed capture card? Also why leave a solid few days to show it off, easy they don't have it and plan to use the excuse that Nintendo has silenced them. Frankly i hope to be wrong because.....Waddle Dee. -  Cubeguy(talk)
(But I want Waddle Dee -_-) And the same happened with MK8. You have some big points, and there were too much excuses in the comments. I will check. Even Iwata leaved a comment: "Please don't leak Mr. Sakurai's game."  TSUNAMI

Lucina Unlocking method is wrongEdit

Playing through Smash U, I play classic once as Duck Hunt and unlocked Lucina. Clearly the method shown is wrong. I would edit it, but I don't truly know how to unlock her. User:Peteyking64

In case you didn't, I wrote some things about unlock criteria. I think that there is a set order for unlocking characters, and every time you do Classic/10 matches you have a chance to face the first locked opponent of that list. That's how I believe it works in Sm4sh 3DS (don't own Sm4sh Wii U, PAL user). So, those listed (do All-Star, Special Orders, defeat an opponent in Cruel Smash, do 100-Man Smash and so on) could be all ways to unlock someone, and since there is so much disaccord about those criterias, it makes sense. Now, everyone reading this, try to do like 100-Man Smash first, then Speial Orders, then Classic, and see what happens (not forced in this order, still not as the one listed). This way we can see if my theory it's right or what.  TSUNAMI

Split Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U into Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U attempt 3Edit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Split 14-0

Well, both games are out now in almost all countries I believe? I think now we have enough information to split these. Just look at all the different sections of the gameplay section on this page for one big example, like Smash Tour, Smash Run, and 8-Player Smash. Besides that, there's different stages, different trophies, heck even different glitches and patches/updates. There's really no reason to keep it merged now.

Proposer: SuperYoshiBros (talk)

SupportEdit

  1. SuperYoshiBros (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Madz the Penguin (talk) Different modes, different trophies, different glitches, different stages, different tracks, different release dates...they have so many differences, it's like comparing Dr. Mario to Dr. Mario 64. It's time to stop assuming these are the next Pokemon X and Y and that they need to be together.
  3. Walkazo (talk) - There's enough differences that a split seems worth-while: if the SMA remakes can stand alone from the original titles, the two versions of SSB4 can get their own pages too. It also fits in with the "more articles the merrier" philosophy, and sets a standard for future advantageous splits, like the three vastly different versions of Mario is Missing! which are currently all stuffed onto one page too. Only this is worse because the two games don't even share a title, leading to the very awkward page name. But in a way, it's also better than the MiM! situation, since SSB4 info's easy to come by, so unlike the old edutainment game, splitting these pages should be easy.
  4. Time Turner (talk) Per all.
  5. Mario (talk) There are way too many differences within these two games. One question though, is what does Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U redirect to? Will we delete it? How will we reformat those links? And what about the image categories? See I have a lot of questions for this.
  6. Tails777 (talk) So yeah, both versions are out and we know all the features of both meaning that these two games can finally become two separate articles. Per all.
  7. Toadbrigade5 (talk) Per All. Now or never!
  8. Tsunami (talk) Per all. Now there is too much non-shared content. Should I even bother to make a list?
  9. 3D Player 2004 (talk) Per all.
  10. Ashley and Red (talk)Why not? The two games have many differences, mainly in gameplay. Also, having the two games in the same article will do it be...uh, larger?confusing?gorgeous and exhaustive to read? Yes, it will so. If games such the Mario & Sonic ones (those have console as well as hanheld versions) can have splitted articles, why SSB4 can't? I'd just, when spliting the articles, let subpages (like glitches, beta elements, etc) be the same (merged), 'cause they are small, generally...
  11. Boo4761 (talk) Per all. Despite me being one of the opposers of the last proposal about this, now is the time to split them.
  12. Baby Luigi (talk) Ok so I disagree with myself on a previous note. When adding game appearances, I subconsciously tend to split them (like say, Baby Luigi appears in Wii U but not in 3DS version) anyway because of their exclusive content. However, I do believe we should keep these two games together when mentioning History sections about these playable characters (like say, Ness; he should have only one section about the game, not two).
  13. BabyLuigi64 (talk) Now that we have sufficient info? Yes. Per all.
  14. Glitchy Bowser Jr. (talk) There has been more info of the differences since the last proposal, now I believe they are different enough to be split.

CommentsEdit

The link editing's going to be a nightmare, considering there's around 1500 pages that link to this article. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

that's why bots are created, dude.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:34, 29 November 2014 (EST)
A lot of the links are hopefully just due to templates, and even beyond the links, a lot of stuff might need manual tweaking. The games can probably stay together in History sections for the most part, however, like how the SMA games are usually lumped with the originals. As for what to do with the "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U" page, I suggest leaving it as a sorta enhanced disambig page, with the combo logos and a brief note about how the games were marketed together and whatnot, and then links to the individual pages. - Walkazo 22:41, 29 November 2014 (EST)
I don't think fixing the links manually will be feasible, as a lot of image files have it and... the categories for each image files are listed as Category:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Images. We have the split that as well. A big percentage of all links are indeed from navigational templates, but how big?   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:44, 29 November 2014 (EST)
Damn, forgot about the images and categories... Man, we really shoulda just made separate pages from the start. Like really, what were we thinking? - Walkazo 22:50, 29 November 2014 (EST)
Hindsight's always 20/20. For the images, what exactly do we do about character artwork and other images meant for both games? Are we going to have three categories by the end of this, 3DS, Wii U, and the misc. stuff? Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Maybe we create subcategories instead. Category:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Images and Category:Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Images under the Category:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Images.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:56, 29 November 2014 (EST)
Or just put them in both of the game-specific categories and not have an extra step. Either way, whatever's done for the image categories should be done for all the other mainspace categories too for consistency. - Walkazo 23:25, 29 November 2014 (EST)

I got an idea for how to do this. We tell every user about this problem in some way, then we try to all work together so we can get this done in roughly a month. We'll first create the categories, then delete this article, then create two articles (one for the 3DS version and the other for the Wii U version). After the articles are created, we'll fix the links with the list we have. If you think about it, we're supposed to be working together on this wiki, not doing it alone. Mario Wiki wasn't built in a day by one person. It was built by many people in years. That realization kind of takes the weight off of your guy's shoulders. Madz the Penguin (talk) 23:55, 29 November 2014 (EST)

This will not work, group work is good enough when everyone want to help/can help so...User:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig

OK, gor categories, I agree with @Mario:Subcategories may fix it. I gave an idea above for special pages. Also, for headers (I don't know the right name, I mean, the small tables in the end of each article e.g "Humans".) We should redo two new ones: SSB3DS and SSBU. About redirects, I think we should do just some (not alot, please) and specifically, like:

  • A redirect page for SSB4-->Will get a subrrdirect page, poibting the two articles
  • A redirect page for SSB3DS
  • ---- for Wii U
  • Etc.

Ah, I almost forgot: This article we have right now should be the SSB3DS one (as it have more info), and the SSBU info.in it should be move to a new page so. Right?User:Ashley anEoTselkie/sig

Ashley, you have a point right there. We don't have to delete this article; we could just remove the SSB Wii U information for this one, then we could make another article for that game. Subredirects seem like a good idea, as we have the tendency to call these games "SSB4".

And not everyone has to help out. Just look at Bulbapedia; they say what the big project is, and they kind of focus their attention on it, but they still leave it as a choice. That would be pretty rude to make people do something they don't want to do on the wiki.

By the way, after this proposal, I'll work on fixing the links. I'm pretty sure a bot doesn't have the brains to fix all of the links, so we have to do some work manually. Madz the Penguin (talk) 10:57, 30 November 2014 (EST)

What are we going to do with the History sections of playable characters? I really believe they should still be mentioned together as one game...or do we already do this regarding the Mario & Sonic games?   Ray Trace(T|C) 00:10, 1 December 2014 (EST)

Yeah, like I said earlier, we can keep them together in the History pages, like how the SMA remakes are combined with the originals in single sections. Also, no clue what you guys are talking about with that "subredirects" business. We'll keep this page as a sorta hub page, and all the redirects that don't point to one game or the other (i.e. "SSBfN3DS/WiiU", "SSB4", etc.) will go here, but they're just normal redirects and this page itself won't be a redirect at all, but more like something between a dismbig page and a series page in terms of scope. Again, like I said earlier. - Walkazo 00:45, 1 December 2014 (EST)

Game & Watch alternate unlock criteriaEdit

That's because I have a theory that doing any of certain requirement gives opportunity to unlock someone, see before. Now... did you unlock R.O.B. before? So after unlocking G&W you had every character but Duck Hunt? I think both answers are "yes".  TSUNAMI

Mewtwo isn't a included characterEdit

Mewtwo isn't a playable character in the game per se, as someone who buys a copy of Smash won't have a playable Mewtwo in their game; they have to download him separately. You all okay with changing it to say 49 fighters + 1 downloadable extra, as opposed to 50 including Mewtwo (etc.)? Also, I think the fighters should be listed in order of the Smash game they first participated in, like the Brawl page does, but someone may have already mentioned that. TheMultiYoshi (talk) 15:48, 21 December 2014 (EST)

Should these two links be merged?Edit

In the Smash Run enemies section, there is two links that link to Zoomer and Geemer (pages are not yet created) respectively and the SmashWiki says that Zoomer is the original name for Geemer. Do something about this pageEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Delete 14-3-0
I created this article five years ago under the assumption that both Smash Bros. games would be the exact same game with only a few differences separating them (like the then-announced version-exclusive stages) but not enough that they should be separate articles. (This was also on top of the fact that there was hardly any information on the two games.) As more information was gradually revealed and both games came out proving this definitely wasn't the case, eventually they were split into full articles, leaving this page in a neglected state. Right now, it's not sure what it wants to be: it combines and overlaps information of both games already found on their respective pages, but it's not even complete in that regard, either. The DLC is covered in full, but the characters and stages are just summarised in short paragraphs. The page was brought up on the forums a few months back, and I think it's about time something should be done with it:

  • Delete this page: With both games already having full, separate coverage, this page seems pointless. The current Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U articles would still cover elements common in both games (gameplay, characters etc.), but both articles would also include a section covering content exclusive to the respective version. Note that this would affect the corresponding gallery page as well: the images there can easily be split off to their respective version-focused gallery pages, which they mostly already are. Whatever is done following this action (e.g. turning it into a disambiguation page, though I'm not against this decision) has no bearing on this proposal.
  • Include only information common in both games: Cover all of the common elements in both games on one page, but also trim the current Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U articles to include only exclusive content. Again, this also affects the gallery page: general Smash 4 images such as the combined logos and artwork remain, but 3DS and Wii U screenshots are removed.
  • Keep it as it is: Do nothing.

Delete this pageEdit

  1. Mario jc (talk) I see no reason to keep this if we already have two separate pages covering the information found here in full.
  2. YoshiEgg1990 (talk) Per Mario jc. I wanted to say that long ago, but i forgot about it.
  3. Toadette the Achiever (talk) It's more sufficient as a disambiguation page, as the differences are vast enough in my opinion, and yet this exact term is all too likely to be searched. Per Mario jc.
  4. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per Mario jc, and I also agree with keeping this as a disambiguation page.
  5. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Disambiguation of page or trimming sounds reasonable enough. I believe Nintendo has them together, though still separate. It is kind of like the Mario & Sonic series. Although, disambiguation seems better due to what we're doing with Mario & Sonic pages is that. Per all.

Include only information common in both gamesEdit

  2. Yoshi the SSM (talk) See above
  3. Baby Luigi (talk) Per all. The two games are more similar with each other than the Mario & Sonic different versions, which have different dream events, different story mode (though you could argue their classic is different), etc. Like, especially for the fighter's and item's sections for each respective article, which Mario & Sonic characters don't even share the same stats.

Keep it as it isEdit
