Talk:Starman (EarthBound)

At this point in time, the only thing called "Starman" is this species, since Nintendo likes to play fast and loose with the name of the Star/Starman/Super Star. The most recent name has been fairly consistent since 2009, but there are plenty of people who still recognize them as Starmen and not Super Stars. At the same time, the Starman species appears as both an assist trophy and enemy in SSB4 (and a common one at that), though it's only been in one/two games so far. With all of that said, should we chop the identifier off this article and leave an {{about}} in its place? Hello, I'm Time Turner.

The Mario item currently located at Super Star is by far the most common meaning of "Starman" within the context of Mario. I oppose such a move. Bwburke94 (talk) 01:04, 26 June 2015 (EDT)
Yeah, I disagree with the move. The identifier makes it clearer for users who want to search this article, as typing in the search bar will bring up several article names. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:37, 26 June 2015 (EDT)
Isn't the point of an identifier for articles that currently have the same name, though? Binarystep (talk) 23:09, 30 July 2015 (EDT)
The point of an identifier is to provide clarity to the reader on what the name refers to. If we go strictly by policy, I think this would lose its identifier, but we're free to make decisions without abiding solely by policy. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
MW:Naming doesn't specifically say it, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to say that even after something's name was changed to no longer be shared with something else, if the old name is still more likely to be searched when looking for the moved page, rather than the subject still retaining the name, it's prudent let the plain name be a redirect to the moved page, and leave the other page where it is with its identifier. So I agree with the other users that we should just leave this page as-is. - Walkazo 14:42, 13 November 2015 (EST)
