The Star Sprites aren't like normal stars. They, in case you haven't noticed, are different. I think it should be split into a new page titled, "Star Sprite".Dry dry king (Talk)

First AppearanceEdit

If the infobox says that they first appear in Super Mario Bros., why there's no information about that in the History section? I think that they first appear in Super Mario RPG...   LED42™ (talkedits) 14:27, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Nor the Notable Stars section says something...   LED42™ (talkedits) 14:29, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Probably because of Super Star, as that's listed as a subspecies. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:32, 13 September 2017 (EDT)
Beyond the fact that we're not supposed to use the term "sub-species", Super Stars are irrelevant to the subject of this article. It'd be best to change it to Super Mario RPG. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 14:39, 13 September 2017 (EDT)
Is there a point where we have to make a distinction between sentient characters and items? I mean, Fire Flowers are categorized in the same category as living, sentient characters.   Ray Trace(T|C) 14:41, 13 September 2017 (EDT)
Because flowers are flowers, even if they don't display any sapiency other than blinking sometimes. Double Dash was years ago, and that was the last time "everything has eyes" was true. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:47, 13 September 2017 (EDT)
Well, the mushrooms, flowers, and stars still share their eyes. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 14:51, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Fire Flowers are items, even the page says that, so, what's the point to put Fire Flowers under the characters category?   LED42™ (talkedits) 14:51, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

They aren't, they're both in Category:Flowers together. As they should be. And I subscribe to Mushrooms, Flowers, and Stars being alive because real mushrooms and flowers are living things, even if they qualify as an item. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:53, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

I'm really confused... You're saying that they're characters or living beings?   LED42™ (talkedits) 14:56, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Living beings. What they said earlier was that flower characters (such as Petunia and Tolielip) are categorized under Category:Flowers along with flower items (like Fire Flower and Bloom).Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:25, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Also, "Star" in Sub-species should be removed?   LED42™ (talkedits) 18:23, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Not ever sure what it was for, given it leads to a disambig page now. Possibly for Super Star, or the lesser Stars from Star Haven (now listed under Star Kid, I think?) Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:38, 13 September 2017 (EDT)
Removed it. That link really doesn't serve for any purpose.   LED42™ (talkedits) 18:44, 13 September 2017 (EDT)

Merge the "Star Sprite" info to Star SpiritsEdit

There's so much mingling across languages for these entities that effectively have the same role. Not only are the Star Sprites sometimes identified as Star Spirits (or star spirits), the spirit of the Cobalt Star (ie the elder Princess Shroob) is repeatedly identified as a Star Sprite despite visually being a knockoff Misstar. I think rather than being awkwardly tacked on to this page, the M&L info should be merged to Star Spirits (and perhaps have that moved to the singular). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:16, September 7, 2021 (EDT)

I'd rather Star Sprites had its own page. The only time I can think of about Star Sprites being called Star Spirits is one part of Paper Jam, which was clearly a typo that was corrected in the British English version.   Nightwicked Bowser   04:52, September 7, 2021 (EDT)
Other languages seem to use them more interchangeably, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 05:56, September 7, 2021 (EDT)
So? Other countries' localizations don't necessarily have to dictate how we cover things, and while the Japanese names mean the same thing, they're not the same. The Star Sprites also look absolutely nothing like the Star Spirits. That Cobalt Star spirit may look like Misstar, but since its a fake, it's not related to the Star Sprites or the Star Spirits despite sharing a name with the former. I'm for just giving Star Sprites their own article.    18:01, September 7, 2021 (EDT)
I really do think the Star Spirits article is best for covering the group from Paper Mario, which is how it is now.   Nightwicked Bowser   18:14, September 7, 2021 (EDT)
I personally feel that the fact that said Japanese names are both generic nouns (suta and hoshi have been interchanged more than once in regards to Mario stars) and the "star power" being amplified by "wish power" (Twink in the final battle of PM64, Starlow early in BiS and late in DT, all courtesy of Peach), along with the similar role and seeming connection to Star Hill (regardless of whether the particular Star Sprite was fake) is enough for a merge. But I digress. I also believe the alternate design is so Starlow can be more expressive, but again, digression. I can revisit this later after stirring up something more concrete, I suppose. As long as we agree that the Star Sprite info deserves more than to be awkwardly tacked-on here, I suppose we agree on the important issue. I do insist that PiT be mentioned for Star Sprite by virtue of it being the first to use the phrase (it's repeatedly used as a proper noun in PiT's script).
