Is this name official? Fawfulfury65

Probably not. It seems to be a modified (or rather, Bowsified) Red Switch. Modified as it has a gold Bowser choker as the base, and that all important skull. It's not Bowser's skull, but it's a skull. That+the red colour=a big red button marked DO NOT PRESS. What will you do?-Press it. IGN calls it a skull switch once, then calls it a "switch". 30STM.PNG This Is War 30STM.PNG 11:49, 10 May 2010 (EDT)

yes, its is offical since, in fact, it has a big skull on on it. or i guess it can be a death switch, but it seems like it. what do's nintendos guide say? User:Bjdill/sig 12:22 10 august, 2010

Move to Boss Switch, incorporate Super Mario Land (and possibly other games)Edit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

No change 2-0-4
This isn't the only case where boss fights can be ended by hitting a button behind the boss - it first happens in Super Mario Land (where it is unnamed, and the sprite is too small to show any sort of detail like a skull), and then later in the other NSMB games. Currently, the former does not have a page, and the latter are included on ! Switch along with the sort seen in Super Mario World that "turn on" solid line blocks (please note, the latter is the only type that the article introduction mentions!), although since the latter technically isn't conjecturally-named, I'm leaving that version as an alternate option in the poll rather than the main one (remember that, per the recent proposal that passed, you can vote for two options in a three-option poll).

My main concern here is SML, and thinking it's best to get both the unnamed switches on one page rather than making up two page names unnecessarily, but I thought it was best to leave full-consolidate as at least an option.

Move to Boss Switch, incorporate SML but *not* NSMBxEdit

  1. Reboot (talk) Per above.
  2. Pseudo-dino (talk) Per all.

Wildgoosespeeder (talk) Per all. Withdrawn.

Move to Boss Switch, incorporate SML and boss-! switches from other NSMB gamesEdit

Do NothingEdit

  1. Wildgoosespeeder (talk) If my other vote doesn't happen, this is OK too. This is rather complicated.
  2. Fawful's Minion (talk) I'm siding with Wildgoosespeeder on this one, they both defeat Bowser so there is no difference.
  3. LudwigVon (talk) - I do not really agree with the merge of the two switches. The switch of Super Mario Land does not look at all like the one of New Super Mario Bros. and does not look like a switch, until, there are not a source which states that it is the probably the same, I believe it is more consistent (if it is really necessary) to create a a page for the switch of Super Mario Land and leave that of New Super Mario Bros. as it until a source is found.
  4. LinkTheLefty (talk) Per comments.

CommentsEdit

If anyone is wondering why I voted more than once, a recent proposal passed for those who were not made aware. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:30, 21 May 2016 (EDT)

Okay, now I don't think that proposal was a good idea, but that's another venue for discussion.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 12:44, 24 May 2016 (EDT)
Fawful's Minion... have you actually followed on with what's being proposed here? You just missed the cut-off anyway, but (a) WGS *also* voted for Option 1, (b) Bowser isn't even IN Super Mario Land and (c) that would be a reason to MERGE, not not-so. - Reboot (talk) 18:32, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
Deadline hasn't been reached yet. At this time, roughly 1:30 remains [1]. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:36, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
Yeah, you can't merge right now. But, a question, does the switch is name Boss Switch in Super Mario Land or it is a conjectural name?-- (TALK) 18:40, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
Ah, whoops, got my +1 and -1s mixed up. I have doubts about Fawful's Minion's vote, still... (Re: Rule 4).
Actually, I checked when you put the proposal up. May 18, 2016. We have until tomorrow at 23:59 GMT (19:00 CST for me) to decide the outcome. This proposal has roughly 25 more hours until we can decide the outcome of the proposal. When June 1, 2016 occurs in the GMT timezone, the clock will be at 00:00, not 23:59. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:06, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
And the name's conjectural, but so was Skull Switch. It was moving from a specific conjectural name to a more generic one. - Reboot (talk) 18:44, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
I thought you were making an article for Super Mario Land separate from New Super Mario Bros. all related to the thing that drops (defeats) the boss? If that's not the case, I want to withdraw my only support vote (oppose vote stands). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:57, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
...I'll be honest here: I don't see how "incorporate Y" could be taken to mean "make separate article for Y"... - Reboot (talk) 16:45, 1 June 2016 (EDT)
How else is excluding NSMB from SML going to happen? I guess I will withdraw my support vote. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 16:57, 1 June 2016 (EDT)
NSMBx: NSMB2, NSMBWii, NSMBU... - Reboot (talk) 19:03, 1 June 2016 (EDT)

For the record, Skull Switch isn't conjectural. From the New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Power guide: "When [Bowser] appears, simply hop onto the platform, use a long jump to leap over him, and hit the bridge-retracting skull switch." (page 26) Later, "[...] so it may be easier to dodge for a while until Bowser does a high jump, then dash beneath him to the skull switch." (page 110) Later still, "They're easier to dodge if you're farther back, but you'll need to stay fairly close to your foe so you can dash to the skull switch when Bowser jumps." (page 118) Just thought I'd throw that out there. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Then, the conjectural name template should be remove from that page.-- (TALK) 19:38, 1 June 2016 (EDT)
The SML switch also makes the boss itself self-destruct and open the sealed gate to the next kingdom behind it, which is fairly different from simply lowering Bowser's bridge or affecting the lava flow as the boss switches do in the NSMB games. Furthermore, here's a quote from that game's manual at the end of page 6: "After Mario beats the boss of a world, he can enter the next world by stepping on the switch in front of the gate." So since it only has a generic description, I'd be more in favor of creating a separate "Switch (Super Mario Land)" article. I think I agree with moving the "NSMBx" ! Switch currently in the same article as the standard SMW version, though. Prima Wii guide calls it a ! Switch (page 171), so maybe split the info between something like "! Switch (object)" and "! Switch (goal)"? LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:44, 1 June 2016 (EDT)
