I support merging this with Shine Gate. There's no reason for it to be split. Dark BonesSig.png 17:39, June 25, 2022 (EDT)

Yes, and the only basis for the name is the file name, which I thought we agree is a sort of last resort thing in case we can't find a name. Filenames don't always 100% match up with established names. The history for this page and the other page is a bit weird too. Both were created in MarioWiki's early years fun with letters by the same user Tyranno128 within minutes of each other, one pertaining to the entire gate and the other to the Shine sculpture itself (I think), with the sculpture getting a fanon name first before being eventually renamed to another conjectural name until it's moved to the current name (but with no information on what asset "monumentshine.bmd" encompasses; is it the entire gate or just the Shine sculpture?). Shine Monument was just floating around too, not even being in the nav template at the time of this discussion. It's clear to me the gate encompasses everything, and we really don't need separate pages for the entire gate and just the sculpture. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. Yeah, we can merge these and then say it's also known as "Shine Monument" or something PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:58, June 29, 2022 (EDT)
Is "monumentshine.bmd" supposed to mean "Shine Monument" or "Monument Shine"? If the it's just the sculpture, then the latter would make more sense, as in "the Shine that's part of the Monument". Blinker (talk) 16:52, June 30, 2022 (EDT)

Well, I don't want the discussion above to be forgotten for too long. There's no reason for this page to be split. As far as the games are concerned (and the games don't lie), there is no functional distinction between a component of the gate and the gate itself. The what links here page also indicates an easy merge but also suggests the limited utility a split has to offer. Also, I did a rundown on this page's weird history.

We CAN probably put the monumentshine.bmd somewhere in our internal names list, so "Shine Monument" as a name has some utility maybe

  1. Bazooka Mario (talk) Pointless split
  2. 7feetunder (talk) I'm pretty sure the only reason the "monument" is a separate object internally in the first place is that it's the only part of the Shine Gate that needed to be an object - the rest of the Shine Gate is just part of Delfino Plaza's level geometry. It's like saying that Munchers aren't enemies because they're actually programmed as floor tiles.
  3. Archivist Toadette (talk) It's pretty much part of the Shine Gate already, kind of like how the Elizabeth Tower is part of the Big Ben.
  4. Waluigi Time (talk) Per all.
  5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
  6. Dwhitney (talk) Info about the Shine Monument can be on the Shine Gate article. "Shine Monument" can probably be a redirect.
  7. Hewer (talk) We should probably still note the Shine Monument name on the Shine Gate article, but otherwise per proposal.
  8. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Per all. The strategy guides never gave any indication that these two were separate.
  9. Arend (talk) Per all. I hadn't known before that the two were described separately at all, but seems that the original author of both articles just kept the two separate for no discernable reason when they created them as early as August 7 2006 (other than maybe, "it's a giant Shine Sprite", even though it's not collectable?). The Shine Monument had been given the fan name "Giant Shine", but the Shine monument itself was never referred to anyone by anything in-game and seems to always be regarded as part of the Shine Gate instead. Even the page quote never actually refers to the monument, but to the gate!
