NameEdit

For future reference, the Prima eGuide for LMDM refers to them as generic bombs: "If its green circular panel detects a Strobulb flash, the bomb sprouts mechanical legs and follows you until it detonates. When you spot one of these bombs, it’s usually best to detonate it before any ghosts or critters have a chance to surprise you.

Robomb or Strobomb?Edit

Shouldn't the article be titled Strobomb? Looking at the references, Strobomb is a name used in-game, while Robomb is taken from internal data which I understand has lower priority - plus Strobomb is from a more recent game. Tmjjmt (talk) 13:18, August 27, 2023 (EDT)

Wasn't "Strobomb" just a cheeky way E.Gadd referred to the Strobulb bursts? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:44, August 27, 2023 (EDT)
No, Strobombs are a separate item and are shown during the game's attract mode. - RHG1951 (talk) 16:15, August 27, 2023 (EDT)
Gotcha - in that case I've clarified in the article that Strobomb is specifically a name for the gold version, not the normal ones as the first sentence suggested before. Tmjjmt (talk) 19:05, August 27, 2023 (EDT)

Japanese nameEdit

The "Robomu" name appears in a scan here, but it's too blurry. It could technically be saying "Ropomu", as unlikely as that is... I'm going to add the source anyway. Blinker (talk) 13:12, January 3, 2024 (EST)

Split Strobomb from RobombEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Split 10-0
The "Strobombs" mentioned here are a completely different thing. Namely, they aren't the running-around mechanical maniacs from Dark Moon, they are a limited-supply usable ability represented by a yellow technological bomb that likely uses the same base model (without robotic parts aside from the green strobe-reaction light), which Luigi throws before they automatically explode (demonstration here). Anyways, they have a different name and a vastly different function.

SupportEdit

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - LAMP OIL!
  2. Camwoodstock (talk) Different gameplay mechanics? Different name? Even different lore behind them (well... as much lore as an item in an arcade adaptation gets, anyways. ;P), to the point where really the only thing in common is the same base model? Sounds like a pretty cut & dry split to us.

CommentsEdit

So, why were these merged in the first place? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 10:18, January 6, 2024 (EST)

Probably just needing to put the info somewhere and not having an image to make a new page. Or something like that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:23, January 6, 2024 (EST)
Looking at the history, this was probably because of an edit in February of 2023--so, this is a surprisingly recent addition all things considered. As far as we can tell, this was just part of blanket adding information about Robombs' presence in Luigi's Mansion Arcade. In doing that, they also added Strobombs under the assumption that they were just another form of golden Robomb (after all, golden Robombs are mentioned as far back as the very first incarnation of the article!) and not a wholly unique item that just has a similar design. Seems like it was just an honest mistake that nobody caught until now. also shoutouts to the anonymous editor from 2017 who apparently thought robombs were sexy ~Camwoodstock (talk) 11:35, January 6, 2024 (EST)
How can you even prove these are sexy? There isn't a good picture of one in the article.   It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 13:05, January 6, 2024 (EST)
