Official name and release date

First Mario Game to use Nintendo Network - MTO or MK7

Take a look at this link. Here it says, "As those of you who have enjoyed playing Mario Kart 7 that we launched late last year should know, its online competition mode includes the system called “Communities.” Each player can create his or her own online “Community” and decide the rules and conditions of the races to be conducted there, and anyone who enters the designated “Community number,” can join to enjoy the matches there. With that system, the company is offering a new kind of network service, which is different from the network services Nintendo has been offering under the name of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Yes, Mario Kart 7 uses the Nintendo Network. Here is proof! I almost wanted to say it was very obvious, but it isn't. For some reason, in the American version of Mario Kart 7, when you try to connect the game to the internet it will say: Connecting to the Internet. However in the European version of Mario Kart 7, the game will say: Connecting to Nintendo Network. This confirms Mario Kart 7 does use the Nintendo Network. It is also the first Nintendo game to use the Nintendo Network, if I am not making a mistake. rend (talk) (edits)

16 Characters?

Actually there may be more than 16 characters. If you watch the trailer on the European Mario Tennis Open site, you will notice the trailer says "16 CHARACTERS AND MORE TO UNLOCK!", which means that there will be more than 16 characters. Nintendo confirmed that some characters can be unlocked in the game and some can be unlocked by scanning QR codes. So what I think (and that is only speculation) it that the players starts of with 12 characters and can unlock 4 more in the game, but by scanning QR codes, he/she can unlock even more characters. But this is not confirmed and only what I speculate. What I just want to point out is the fact that 16 may not be the minimum of playable characters in Mario Tennis Open. rend (talk) (edits)

Baby Mario?

According to the source that lists him playable, it lists all the confirmed characters of now except for Baby Peach. Isn't that a wee bit fishy? Could it be a typo? Ray Trace^(T|C)

More characters

Arend told me, that the European trailer said 16 CHARACTERS AVAILABLE AND MORE TO UNLOCK so it might be true there are more characters but that the now confirmed chars are just the starting roster. This is why I think since the MORE part in the sentence is a little confusing. ~ Qyzxf (talk)

I think that what Arend said about the QR Codes and the process of unlocking characters is right though. I would also venture to say that Baby Peach, Baby Mario, Dry Bowser and Luma are all unlockable, and some more characters can be unlocked through QR Codes (as mentioned in the page). I'm expecting that all the usual characters are most likely going to be playable from the start (Ex: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Daisy, Peach, Bowser, Wario, Bowser Jr., Waluigi, Boo, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong (and Mii)) NinjaYoshi

Blue Yoshi

On the japanese website, I looked under the QR codes section and saw a picture of blue Yoshi. Does anyone know japanese and could translate what it says there? Tails777 Talk to me!

It just says that "these" characters are downloadable through QR Codes. (Meaning, obviously, that Blue Yoshi is one of them.) Actually, that is just speculation, because Google Translate won't let me copy and paste the Japanese characters on that part of the page... NinjaYoshi

Wait... So does that mean that all the other QR Code Unlockables are different colored Yoshis? Or was that just the discription for Blue Yoshi? OR: Does it mean Blue Yoshi changes colors, and each color has different power, spin and speed abilities?? NinjaYoshi

I know the amount of characters

Now we have the now confirmed characters. Together these are eightteen (Also counting Mii). However, this place shows a few incons with question marks in them, which also means there are going to be more characters scannable by QR codes. True. I think that adding the 24 total characters (somehow) would be more effiecient. But I think the 16 total characters should be left in because that's referring to in-game unlockables, not just all characters. (I don't know how to put that...) NinjaYoshi

Light Blue Yoshi

First, nothing you just said makes sense. Second, don't make assumptions that the link is false. It could be completely right! For Baby Mario, for instance, we had potentially "false" info. But it turned out to be real, and we added him to the list anyway. If it is in fact false, we can always go back and delete him from the list. Third, the Mario Tennis Open website says that all the QR Code unlockable characters are Multicolored Yoshis. Therefore, Light Blue Yoshi is almost guaranteed to be a playable character. NinjaYoshi

Item Battle?

In the past home console Mario Tennis games, for the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube, there has been an Item Battle sort of mode where Item Boxes appear over the net and every time you hit the ball while you have an item the item gets used. I don't have the game so I can't confirm, but does this game still have the Item Battle mode? I think it's sort of worth mentioning that this game is in the style of these home console games, but unlike the home console games it doesn't have Item Battle mode, or else it's the first handheld to have Item Battle mode, if that's also the case, since I don't have any handheld Mario Tennis games. Haha! That's what I said up at the QR Codes header! :) Yes, I would think so. It'd probably be good to put them in the gallery... Or we could create a new page like... "Mario Tennis Open/QR Code Images". If someone could also get good resolution on them because I have really pixelly ones and my 3DS can barely read them (I tested it on Mii Maker... I knew it wasn't going to work, just wanted to see if it could read them.) NinjaYoshi

I think we should put them in the gallery as well as on the specific Yoshi's page. I think we should also include the North American, Japanese and PAL QR codes, so that should make a total of twenty one images. As for getting the images, I can easily be able to get them in perfect quality. BTW so far the Yoshi costume has been released in all regions, Blue, Red and Pink in North America, Blue in Japan and Black and White in PAL. SKmaric (talk)

Hm, put the tab itself is named "metal", and there doesn't appear to be room for other tabs or characters... I think Metal Mario's the last one. Yes, but Nintendo did originally only put up the normal characters, then they put up the extra "?" circles (which were later filled in with Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Luma and Dry Bowser. I don't know about the "metal" thing... I guess in a sense you might be right about that part ... And also, all the Yoshies got their costume accessories, whereas Metal Mario didn't. Ok,I guess he may not have meant what he said to sound rude. It's probably just all in my head. Please forgive me,Ninja Yoshi. Anyways, a playable character doesn't have to have a costume+a racket. If they did then we would have so many unusual characters. Goomba,Propeller Mario,Cloud Mario,etc. But at the same time,I agreed that earlier toad might still be appearing through qr codes. According to what you just said,then maybe toad,birdo,and other characters can be playable through qr. Level 2-4

In the article, it says that the waluigi costume is unlocked by getting 800 coins in level 2-4 in super mario tennis. I don't understand this. The last level for super mario tennis is level 1-4. If anyone knows how to make it to that level(if possible) then i would loooooove to know how. Hey everyone! I just found proof that every character is available in every country. Here. Just for a citation. And clarification of why I edited the page that way. Differences from previous Mario Tennis games

As mentioned in the "References to other games" section, for Mario Power Tennis, announcer clips and such are changed. While I feel this is notable enough to mention in the article somewhere, I feel it is misplaced in that section since it does not reference Mario Power Tennis. I think a "Differences from previous Mario Tennis games" section could be implemented, wherein this could be written. Is there enough information to warrant a sizeable section? It also needs to incorporate the handheld Mario Tennis games, unless one can somehow word it to only incorporate the home console ones (to which Mario Tennis Open is most similar).
