Chain Chompikins is not one of the Broodals[edit]

It is a pet. These should be spllllllit. Also, one is controllable, while the other is not. It's like how we have separate RPG entities split. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:09, 21 October 2017 (EDT)

Was kinda hopin' the page would be created after the game released so we had all the information, but welp. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 20:14, 21 October 2017 (EDT)
I was actually going to do it based on a YouTube video since we had the name, like with Mechawiggler, but it was instead done by someone who immediately moved it to a location it doesn't belong. We don't list Big Chain Chomp under Iggy Koopa, after all, and Biffidus is separate from Durmite. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:18, 21 October 2017 (EDT)
I was confused when I first saw this game as to why they were merged and why Chain Chompikins is listed as one of the Broodals. No source for that. I support the split, but maybe leave it alone until we have more info, otherwise the articles would be virtually identical.

Like the WarioWare characters like Ashley and Red, one currently doesn't have enough information on its own to warrant a separate article for it. I agree it should just stay like this for now so other users don't create a second article with duplicated information, and when there is enough information for one that makes it distinct enough from the other, that's when they can be split. Okay, so the game has been released, but it still seems like splitting these would result in duplicate articles. Leave them merged?

Chompikins's gender[edit]

Do we have any Proof Chain Chompikins is a boy? It's wearing a pink sunhat... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 08:25, 27 October 2017 (EDT)

Is she a Broodal?[edit]

She's already set apart in that she doesn't fly on their airship, but I'm starting to think she's not one the Broodals. She calls them "my darling Broodals" and it seems weird to me that she would refer to them like that if she was one of them. She's clearly associated with them (boss? mom? whatever), but I don't think she is one of them. Someone wouldn't say "my darling humans".

P.S. I'm pretty sure Chain Chompikins isn't a Broodal either, whether or not Madame Broode is.

Her face is on the front of their airship, and she's the same species regardless. Chain chompkins is a bit of a mixed bag. Chat Man (talk) 20:24, 28 October 2017 (EDT)

The Koopalings ride around on an airship sporting Bowser's mug, but he's not a Koopaling. She's never seen with them and it seems like the Broodals refers to the quartet, not to the species. Again, it seems like Madame Broode is their boss. Plus, she uses a different battle theme than them. (Broodals Madame Broode Madame Broode's is a more serious remix of the Broodal theme.)

According to Mister Wu (talk)'s edit summary here, Madame Broode is not a Broodal. As Super Mario Odyssey has been changed to reflect this, should we change this article as well or reach an official decision?

Ok, sorry for not sourcing, but a video with all the brochures has been found, and in the case of the Dark Side, it is written:This ostentatious stone tower was carved at the direction of the vegetable-loving Madame Broode, who lords over Rabbit Ridge. Her underlings, the Broodals, live within and always have a warm "welcome" for visitors. So, the Broodals are confirmed to be the underlings of Madame Broode. After all, the poster on the Japanese site as well as the UK and Irish site didn't feature Madame Broode along the Broodals.--Mister Wu (talk) 21:09, 2 November 2017 (EDT)

Isn’t Madame Broode the mother? Tyler730 (talk) 15:43, 20 November 2017 (EST)

That has not been confirmed, it's just speculation. So as far as we're concerned, no, she's not.

The only "proof" there was was the line "my darling little Broodals" and the mobster-like Topper referring to his compatriots as his "family." If we're going by the first one's logic, she's also the mother of Chain CHompikins given she gives it a similar name. Fortunately, TVTropes quality control has removed that little "confirmed fact" from their site. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:38, 20 November 2017 (EST)

"My Chain Chompikins"[edit]

FYI, what Madame Broode calls her "Chain Chompikins" is referred to as "Broode's Chain Chomp" in the Capture List, so methinks that "Chompikins" part is more of an affectionate pet nickname. LinkTheLefty (talk) 00:01, 31 October 2017 (EDT)

Chain Chompikins is more, for want of a better word, descriptive. And it's capitalized so...
Ultimate Mr. L without the emblem behind him (for my signature) Ultimate Mr. L (Talk-Contribs-Stats) 09:43, 31 October 2017 (EDT)

Well, she calls the Broodals "My Broodals" and since Broodals isn't a pet name I would beg to differ. Seandwalsh (talk) 12:26, 31 October 2017 (EDT)

Chain Chompikins' Japanese equivalent is ワンワンちゃん Wanwan-chan so it surely screams "affectionate name". SmokedChili (talk) 17:21, 6 November 2017 (EST)

That also means Chain Chompikins is a girl, right? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:34, 6 November 2017 (EST)
I fail to see how that confirms it's a girl. Does it have anything to do with my complete lack of knowledge of the Japanese language? Is "chan" feminine or something?
Ultimate Mr. L without the emblem behind him (for my signature) Ultimate Mr. L (Talk-Contribs-Stats) 17:50, 6 November 2017 (EST)
"Chan" can be used to denote something feminine or cute, yes, but is also used for pet names. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:53, 6 November 2017 (EST)
"Chain Chompikins" is also the only official name we have fot that particular Chain Chomp. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 18:10, 6 November 2017 (EST)
..."Broode's Chain Chomp". Stated above. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:17, 6 November 2017 (EST)
I do however think that both names should be present in the Names in other languages section. --Raltseye prata med mej 05:32, 21 November 2017 (EST)

Move to Madame Broode[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

rename 16-0
Okay, so there isn't enough information on these two to split them. But I still don't think the article should be named after both of them. Chain Chompikins is little more than a normal Big Chain Chomp, just gold and with a hat, which several enemies in the game have. It's just a weapon Madame Broode uses in battle. I can't think of any other bosses that use a souped-up version of a normal enemy in their battle, but still, Chompikins isn't notable enough to be in the article title. Besides that, according to a discussion above, Chain Chompikins may just be a pet name, while the real name for it is Broode's Chain Chomp. This would result in the article being called Madame Broode and Broode's Chain Chomp, which sounds wrong in so many ways. Therefore, I propose that the article be moved to just Madame Broode (which is currently a redirect). This goes without saying, but just to be clear, the article would cover the exact same information despite the Chomp not being in the title.

Support[edit]

  1. Ultimate Mr. L (talk) Per me.
  2. Raltseye (talk) per all.
  3. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Per Straw. How will we go about the Chain Chomp category here though?
  4. YoshiFlutterJump (talk) Per proposal.
  5. Baby Luigi (talk) Per proposal.
  6. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per proposal.
  7. Lcrossmk8 (talk) Per the Black Lightning, and per the proposal. I don't know why these two were merged into one page to begin with.
  8. YoshiStar28 (talk) Sounds like a good idea to me and after all, I love this one so, let's move it. Per all.
  9. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Looks like someone checked the in-game capture list for once!
  10. Niiue (talk) Per all.
  11. LuigiMaster123 (talk) Per all.
  12. Yoshi the SSM (talk) Per all.
  13. Astro-Lanceur (talk)per all
  14. Moldomre (talk)I agree.
  15. Goomba nr.34 (talk) per all of the above
  16. Mister Wu (talk) Considering the other name that should be used otherwise, it's probably the best thing to do.

Comments[edit]

@Doc von Schmeltwick I'd just leave it there, since the article still covers the Chomp. But I could be wrong.

P.S. Thanks for mentioned Straw. I knew there was some example of a boss weapon being merged, but I couldn't think of anything.

@Lcrossmk8 The proposal isn't to split the two, it's just to move the page. They're merged because there isn't enough information on them individually for them to have separate articles; the two articles would basically cover the same information.

I support this, but I also think Chain Chompikins (Or Broode's Chain Chomp, or whatever.) should have its own page. Just sayin'. Moldomre (talk) 15:57, 4 December 2017 (EST)
