LivingEdit

The article says that Kangaroos are a "species of animal", which implies that they're alive... For some reason, I've never really thought that they are. They always have that blank look on their faces, and the manual calls them "vehicles" (which isn't a typical way to think of an animal; we're not about to put Yoshi in the vehicles category). --YellowYoshi398 21:03, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Agh, this would be easier to debate if we had a pic.Knife (talk) 21:06, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Here ya go. --YellowYoshi398 21:16, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Wow, nice job finding the pic. It think its more of a species than a vehicle.Knife (talk) 21:23, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Yup. I was going to scan the pic. THanks.   3D, spriting everywhere...

Character or SpeciesEdit

Is this a character or species? I really don't know. Anyone have evidence from a manual or an official guide, or even in-game text? -- Son of Suns

I'm not sure. They appear in several levels, but it's hard to tell whether they're the same one or different.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Well, from what I can remember from some text in the game, it seemed to imply that its a character. The manual doesn't really offer more information, it pretty much says "hop on the kangaroo, she'll bring you to new heights". -- Sir Grodus

Is that an exact quote? We need something official. -- Son of Suns

Just about, maybe not word for word in that order.--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

Here it is exactly, "Control both the kangaroo and stilts by hopping on them and then using +. Hop off the kangaroo when it reaches a certain point, and jump off the stilts at any time". Its listed under vehicles and the pairing with the stilts doesn't help matters. -- Sir Grodus

That doesn't help much.... -- Son of Suns

So does that mean it should be under vehicles too?--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom  --

He only appears in two levels. The talk box says "There she is!" I suggest Character Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 18:00, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Based on what we've done with giraffes and elephants recently, I think the same should apply to kangaroos. If this proposal passes, only the information related to Yoshi's Island DS will remain on the page.

CommentsEdit

While admittedly the Yoshi's Island DS one looks a little more like a toilet than a real Kangaroo would, it still seems to be a generic subject that has had at least some generic usage in an "important" game. I'd like to see if its Japanese designation is more "special." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:36, 9 April 2018 (EDT)

In the YIDS instruction manual, it is referred to as a Kangaroo. We have it cited. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:44, 9 April 2018 (EDT)
Japanese, he said. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:02, 9 April 2018 (EDT)
No? Unless you mean you want to know what the Japanese manual says? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:06, 9 April 2018 (EDT)
That is exactly what I mean. Or Shogakukan. I'd like to know if they use a generic "kangaroo" term there or if it has some special name before I make a decision. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:43, 9 April 2018 (EDT)
Since no one has put the name here yet, the official JP website calls it Mr. kangaroo (kangarū-san). Shiny K-Troopa Talk 10:10, 10 April 2018 (EDT)
A more accurate translation would be Ms./Mrs. Kangaroo, since she's female, and -san is gender-neutral anyways...but OK, thanks very much. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:27, 10 April 2018 (EDT)
Yeah, the sex completely slipped my mind, my bad Shiny K-Troopa Talk 00:22, 11 April 2018 (EDT)
