Is this name official? Paper Jorge ( Need to tell me something? Go to my talk page.·Contributions·) 21:09, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

It says they're Frog Pirates in the official Nintendo Power guide.

Info on the playable character from Tetris Attack is present on the Prince Froggy article. However, as far as I know, the character here is most likely a generic "Frog Pirate" and not the World 3-4 boss of Yoshi's Island, considering the presence of a couple other generic enemies as playable characters. The Tetris Attack character claiming their name is Froggy isn't proof of a connection to Prince Froggy either, since Lakitu, Bumpty, and Gargantua Blargg also treat their species name as their monikers.

With Tetris Attack being a higher-priority source for this enemy's name than a Super Mario World 2 Player's Guide, I propose we rename Froggy back to Prince Froggy, then move the Tetris Attack info here and rename this article to Prince Froggy.

Move Tetris Attack info to this article, rename Froggy to Prince Froggy and Frog Pirate to Froggy

  1. DrippingYellow (talk) Per proposal.

Move Tetris Attack info to this article, keep article titles intact

Do nothing

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - Move it back and forth all you want, the fact remains these are the same thing. Anyways, other bosses appear in TA as well, like Hookbill and Naval Piranha, though admittedly those are firmly on the "villains" team. EDIT: Oh yeah and Raphael's with the good team, thanks Blinker.
  2. Somethingone (talk) I really don't want to touch that manic Prince Froggy proposal fever dream ever again but how can we say it's the generic enemy and not prince Froggy, or even the other way around. Where does the (implied) in-game border between "Boss" from YI and "Enemy" from YI begin in the Tetris Attack roster, for one? And even that would be an implication.
  3. FanOfYoshi (talk) I'm not convinced. Per all.
  4. Hewer (talk) As long as these pages stay split, there's some speculation involved no matter where we put the Tetris Attack information, so I don't see a reason to prefer having it on one page over the other.

Comments

A 'generic "Frog Pirate"' is exactly what Prince Froggy is though... Hard to choose an option, when they're all based on a distinction I disagree with in the first place, you know? Blinker (talk) 16:37, November 28, 2023 (EST)

@Doc_von_Schmeltwick Not sure if this even matters, but Raphael is one of the good guys despite being a boss, so it is possible for the Froggy in Tetris Attack to be the boss Froggy from Yoshi's Island... whatever that's supposed to mean. Blinker (talk) 16:41, November 28, 2023 (EST)

...Well, this is awkward. I was going to argue about how they took the names from in-game, and that Froggy may have been an alternate translation for "Gerogēro" based loosely off of Prince Froggy's name. However, I looked into it, and came to the realization that Flying Wiggler and Gargantua Blargg use their names from the Player's Guide, the origin of the Frog Pirate name, so the localizers for Tetris Attack most likely wanted us to think of this frog as "Prince Froggy". Plus, the Tetris Attack feature in Nintendo Power Issue 87 straight-up refers to him as Prince Froggy.
This puts me in a really awkward position: I still feel like Prince Froggy is fit for an article due to his role as a unique boss, but at the same time his "appearance" in Tetris Attack is purely the product of localization. That... complicates matters more than I thought when I originally made this proposal... DrippingYellow (talk) 23:29, November 28, 2023 (EST)

Well, the original game indicated that Froggy was just a generic Frog Pirate but then Tetris Attack came along and complicated things. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:05, November 29, 2023 (EST)
Please note that in SMW2, Kamek also just calls him "Froggy." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:36, November 29, 2023 (EST)
Alright, it seems now I was mistaken in assuming that there was a Frog Pirate-adjacent issue I could address without kicking the Prince Froggy hornet's nest. Cancelling the proposal... DrippingYellow (talk) 12:38, November 29, 2023 (EST)
