Names

I'm starting to think that Flapper and Squeaks aren't the parrots official names and Swanky Kong's answer choices were used to confuse you. Plus he asked "who is your TRUE animal buddy?" meaning that Flapper and Squeaks were just false answers to trick you. Because if those are their real names then they would have been in some other sort of trivia question like "what is your blue parrot animal buddy's name?" or "what is your green parrot animal buddy's name?". So maybe we should put the other parrot articles under different names? --Taj The Genie 15:32, 1 February 2007 (EST)

Um... Of course they aren't the official names, they were just taken from Swanky's quiz by fans and applied to the parrots. They have no actual names, they aren't mentioned in manuals, guidebooks, the games or the game credits. -- Sir Grodus

Yeah. We use these names simply because many many fans associate those names with the parrots. They aren't official; they aren't canon; they are merely a way for us to identify these different parrots. -- Son of Suns

Is Flapper actually a different parrot from Quawks in DKC3? I always thought they were the same. --DavySprocket5

Flapper is blue, Quawks is purple; we must assume they are different birds based on this fact. That's all we really have to go on (to my knowledge), so saying anything more on the subject would be speculation, which is dissuaded on this Wiki. - Walkazo 19:29, 2 July 2009 (EDT)
Well that's a good point. I always assumed that they were the same, but that it was just a design inconsistency, such as Squawks suddenly becoming much larger in DKC2 than he was in DKC1, or how Bowser's size always changes, but I guess we can't know for certain unless it's been officially stated, which it hasn't. --DavySprocket5
Wait a minute... Flapper is blue? Unless I'm colorblind, Flapper is purple, just like Quawks. Fawfulfury65

While the screenshot on this article certainly looks purple, comparing the sprites to the right, there is a clear difference between the two birds, and saying Flapper (top) is blue in comparison to Quawk's purple plumage is a lot clearer than saying he's "indigo" or some other intermediate between the two colours. Although... the sprite could always have been altered... Maybe there's only one purple bird name Quawks, with no "Flapper" at all... - Walkazo 16:15, 14 February 2010 (EST)

That's what I think it is. And, both of them are very similar, as neither of them can spit pellets (or whatever it is) at enemies. Fawfulfury65
Although they both can't spit eggs, Flapper and Quawks operate very differently; Flapper can only fly down, while Quawks can carry barrels. Also, the Kongs can't ride on Quawks, and they can't transform into Flapper. Lastly, while Quawks isn't completely helpless against enemies, Flapper has absolutely no way to attack. Thanks for clarifying! - Walkazo 23:11, 18 February 2010 (EST)

Flapper IS Quawks!

Both have the same Japanese name, and "Flapper" has no known English name. The differences between the two are negligible. Arguing that they're different because they have sliiightly different hues and behavior is like arguing that Squawks in DKC is not the same Squawks in DKC2 because they're difference sizes and have different abilities. Anyway, the deciding factor is that their Japanese name is the same, so they're deemed to be the same character. Fizzle (talk) 07:28, 28 January 2014 (EST)

If they have the same Japanese name, that's certainly enough evidence to say they're the same (after all, many things have slightly different colours from game to game). What is the name? (A reference to back it up would also be ideal, just to be thorough.) - Walkazo 12:08, 28 January 2014 (EST)
The Japanese name is Kōkusu (コークス), and is listed here. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/bdqj/chara/index.html Kōkusu basically is the Japanese name of Squawks with the "S" removed, hence Quawks. I found mention of the name in a guide here under the Squawks section. [1] Apologies for the image quality, it's a scan found on eBay of one of the Japanese guides. It's hard to make out the Japanese exactly but it uses the kanji for "descend" right before the name, so I'm sure it's referring to him. I've seen it in another guide, also, so it's not just that one, and he's also listed with that name under Japanese wikis and fan sites. Fizzle (talk) 19:18, 31 January 2014 (EST)
Cool, thanks. It looks like that last line of the scan could be starting with 「紫色」, too (purple), although only the second character is legible. Anyway, that's enough evidence, so I'll merge the pages. Thanks again! - Walkazo 20:25, 31 January 2014 (EST)
