Are you guys sure that he's undead? He may have ghost like qualities, but that doesn't mean that he is undead.Knife (talk) 20:59, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

Yeah. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC

NM, he probably is, considering he's a Duplighost. My bad.Knife (talk) 21:11, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

Is this guy playable? cause, you know during the fight, he switches with Mario or something... - Ultimatetoad

He may switch some time during the battle or afterwards, it's not confirmed. But even if, I don't think we should call him playable for that. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:21, 16 September 2007 (EDT)
Agreed. We should not count him as playable. My Bloody Valentine Even if it is Doopliss who is played as in the latter parts of the fight, it is only for a very brief moment.

Yeah... I was always confused by that scene..., but it was probably after the fight that he switched, since he knew the guy he was swithching with was the winner..... - Ultimatetoad

Hey guys I have a question! Okay I have sources that say he showed up in Yoshi Island DS. I have never played the game so I wouldn't know, but they have and they said he appeared. They may be joking with me since I am a Doopliss fan but still......last2dream

That's about impossible. Where are those sources? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 13:22, 26 July 2008 (EDT)

Is the "Magician" category relevant? He was never shown magic, just the normal Duplighost powers. That doesn't make him able do use magic anyway.

Except when he rends space, switches bodies, and cheats death, right? 71.189.88.214 13:15, 25 August 2013 (EDT)

Name

Does Doopliss's name come from "duplicitous" (deceitful) or "duplicity" (deceit)? 71.189.88.214 13:15, 25 August 2013 (EDT) I am pretty sure it is a play on words of duplicity... but then again, I may be wrong.

Add to Trivia?

Uh, has anyone noticed bells in Doopliss' theme song? I think that's a reference to him turning the villagers into pigs and we should add that to the Trivia section. Press DS_A.png to whack Toad upside the head. ToadSMA.gif 08:42, 31 October 2014 (EDT)

Fact or Fiction?

Is it actually true that Doopliss can't damage you if you can't damage him when you guess his name incorrectly? (I ask cause I either never tried it at all, or it's been like 15 years since I've done something similar) --NinTylo (talk) 03:19, June 21, 2020 (EDT)

Mario Form

Hey guys I found a gif of Doopliss in his Mario form from Supper Mario Broth but it still has the background in it should I add this to the gallery or keep looking for one without the background? <img src="https://64.media.tumblr.com/cc97b7db6b99166522d6922e8031fc0e/tumblr_okm8eiRTfK1rrftcdo1_400.gifv" alt="3c — suppermariobroth: Comparison between the sprites..."/> I'manumber1 (talk) 17:22, October 20, 2021 (EDT)

Doopliss

The article mentions that Doopliss has the ability to steal other peoples body's when he copies them. Shouldn't it be mentioned that unlike other Duplighosts, Doopliss can not perfectly copy people as when Doopliss captures someone their eyes become round and they gain a "hunched over" position. (By the way you can't say this doesn't happen for Zip Toad and Professer Frankly because they both retain glasses that cover their eyes in order for the player to not be able to realize it's Doopliss.) However in Paper Mario for the N64 Duplighosts all perfectly copy Mario, even using his exact same sprites. This is another thing that makes Doopliss unique from other Duplighosts. I'manumber1 (talk) 18:06, November 12, 2021 (EST)

The round eyes and hunched position only applies when he copies Mario. Even when copying the partners in the Palace of Shadow, they're not hunched and their eyes are clearly normal. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 18:16, November 12, 2021 (EST)

Could you show me a picture? I'manumber1 (talk) 20:06, November 12, 2021 (EST)

Oh and even if this doesn't apply to all characters it should be noted that Doopliss cannot perfectly copy Mario unlike Duplighosts seen in the previous Paper Mario for N64. I'manumber1 (talk) 20:08, November 12, 2021 (EST)

I feel like it was only done that way so that the player could tell the fake Mario from the real one. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 20:10, November 12, 2021 (EST)
As for the partner statement, I would post a YouTube video here to prove my point but every video I could find was using Vivian as the active partner (and Doopliss only copies Mario or the currently active partner). However, I can still clarify from playing the game myself with Goombella and Yoshi; they still look identical to the real deals. I should point out even with Zip Toad, we see him with his sunglasses down after he was busted by Pennington, and his eyes are normal there. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 20:40, November 12, 2021 (EST)

Well even if they did just change it so you could tell the difference between the real and fake Mario it's still a small detail that makes Doopliss different from other Duplighosts and for that reason it should be noted. Also you don't know if Zip Toad's eyes are normal on Doopliss because you never meet the real Zip Toad outside of an E-Mail and for that reason you can never actually see his eyes. I'manumber1 (talk) 12:42, November 13, 2021 (EST)

It's not supposed to be an imperfect form unique to Doopliss, but rather, Mario's "evil" pose, as seen here (altered in localization due to a minor, ignorable visual glitch if the player had certain badges equipped). LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:49, November 13, 2021 (EST)

Well other Duplighosts don't gain any unique "evil" Mario pose when they copy Mario so it should be added. I'manumber1 (talk) 13:00, November 13, 2021 (EST)

There probably isn't one programmed for the first game (and there would be no part of it where it would be necessary). Besides, the design differences are still mentioned in the general information section which I think is enough. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 13:04, November 13, 2021 (EST)

I feel like at this point, especially with the video LinkTheLefty provided, trying to claim Doopliss can't replicate people properly just because of Mario's pose is speculation and should absoloutely not be noted. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 13:16, November 13, 2021 (EST)

Best approach to me is just describe Doopliss's transformation without adding in claims that it's "imperfect" or even stating "probably for the player to tell Doopliss apart". Just say, "While Duplighosts can transform to Mario in later games with no visual differences, Doopliss's Mario has a different pose and rounder eyes". Then, people can just fill in the blank whether it's "imperfect" or it's "gameplay" or even both. We probably already do this. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. I agree with Bazooka Mario. I'manumber1 (talk) 16:35, November 13, 2021 (EST)

Like I said, these differences are mentioned under "physical description". Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:51, November 13, 2021 (EST)
