Big Grrrol

Would it really hurt to change the page name to ‘Big Grrrol’? Just because they aren’t named as such in any source doesn’t mean we can’t provide the obvious translation. Using Dai Gorō as the name just looks weird. Quizmelon (talk) 13:40, 18 March 2018 (EDT)

Have we ever moved other articles like this? The only one I can think of is Pump Mario. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 15:19, 18 March 2018 (EDT)
As per MarioWiki:Naming, a non-English name can be used if that's the only official name we have. "Big Grrrol" isn't official, it's an unofficial translation. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:31, 18 March 2018 (EDT)
See my thread below. "Mega Grrrol" seems to be a confirmed English name. Moe-Eye (talk) 15:36, 17 February 2019 (EST)

Where in SMP does it appear?

I have heard through the gripevine that this Bowser Minion reappears in Super Mario Party, but where? It's always important to show proof, because the Toadies reappeared in WarioWare Gold before this game. I hope I and everyone else can hear back.--Hamshamcart (talk) 20:43, 5 October 2018 (EDT)

As stated on the main SMP page, it's in a minigame called "Follow the Money." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:02, 5 October 2018 (EDT)

Mega Grrrol?

I have a copy of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, and page 210 refers to this enemy as, and I quote, a "Mega Grrrol". This, as far as I Moe, was never a conjectural name on the Wiki, as we called them Dai Gōro. Therefore, it seems sensible to change the name here to Mega Grrrol. Does anyone have any objections? It's certainly a better name than Dai Gōro or Grrol (big). I Moe-nly ask on here because I know the writers of the encyclopedia got into some hot water for using conjectural names. Any advice? Should the name be changed? --Moe-Eye (talk) 15:34, 17 February 2019 (EST)

No Moe, "Mega Grrrol" was originally the name of this article from 2012 to 2017, and it was decided via proposal to more or less disown the English version in policy. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:42, 17 February 2019 (EST)
Ah yes, thank you. Just what I was looking for. Moe-Eye (talk) 18:38, 23 February 2019 (EST)

Big Grrrol, take 2

I regret the "unofficial translation" nonsense I said earlier. The Japanese name translates to "Big Grrrol", so I think we should move this article to that. This wiki is not Japanese. --DeepFriedCabbage 11:53, August 25, 2019 (EDT)

Couldn't agree more. That last sentence was even in my theme song for a short while. This wiki is not Japanese. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 12:13, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
But in no official source does the name "Bug Grrrol" pop up. That's what matters. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:41, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
Dai Gorō translates to Big Grrrol, so yes, the name does show up in an official source, albeit not in English. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 13:45, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
Noooo, if it were "Biggu Guroru" then maybe, but not that. We're not allowed to translate. We can tranliterate if there's an actual English loanword, but not that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:47, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
...That makes absolutely no sense. Why throw away a perfectly nice English name in favor of a Japanese name? This wiki is not Japanese. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 13:50, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
That's not how this rule works. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 13:53, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
It makes perfect sense; we can't make junk up when there's something official there! What if Nintendo decided to call it "Great Grrrol" or something like that? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:55, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
Per Doc. It doesn't matter in the slightest if "this wiki is not Japanese" - we have a clearcut policy on how Japanese titles are named, meant to maintain order and officiality. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:56, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
@Obssessive Mario Fan, are you talking about the Huge Red Electrokoopa regarding the "unofficial translation nonsense"? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 14:04, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
Also, this enemy isn't distinguished from normal Grrrols. If you want to move it back to Mega Grrrol, or Grrrol (big), make a counterproposal on either the Super Mario Encyclopedia proposal or the source priority exception proposal. (I woudl'nt recommand the former, because of the overwhelming and Zack Davidson's incompetence, i'd recommand the latter). --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 14:07, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
@Doc von Schmeltwick If Nintendo decided to call it "Great Grrrol" later on, we would just move the article there after the name was revealed. --DeepFriedCabbage 15:23, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
@FanOfYoshi By "unofficial translation nonsense" I meant this. --DeepFriedCabbage 15:23, August 25, 2019 (EDT)
