Merge to Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō[edit]

Do not merge 1-7
This proposal is about merging Bill Gates with Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō. It's true that what appears in Super Mario media generally gets its own article. However, the only time Bill Gates ever made an appearance in Super Mario media is in the February 20, 1996 broadcast of Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō, which is a short visual novel, not a video game where he has an interactive role or a role in a television skit or episode. Then if you look at the History section of the Bill Gates article, it's basically just a rehash of what's on the Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō's February 20th section, because the entire broadcast is about him. There's just not much different to say than what's already stated on the Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō page.

I'll ask another question for one's consideration: if Bill Gates has an article, why doesn't Windows 95? If the latter were an article, what would be the justification for merging it? The same reason could probably apply to the Bill Gates article.

Also, if we do merge the article, I think we can keep the Humans category, but I'll leave that for editors to decide.

Support[edit]

  1. Super Mario RPG (talk) As proposer.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Hewer (talk) The lack of archiving for this thing doesn't change the fact that Bill Gates made a major appearance in a piece of Mario media (as you said yourself, "the entire broadcast is about him"). This article feels just as justified as all the historical figures that showed up in Mario's Time Machine. And the difference with Windows 95 is that it doesn't actually appear in the skit (to my knowledge), whereas "Bill Gates" does.
  2. Koopa con Carne (talk) What does the broadcast's obscurity have to do with this
  3. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Hewer. This would be a rather baffling move considering the absolute deluge of Mario's Time Machine historic figures, not to mention the various celebrity cameos from Super Show's live action segments (and even that one that was in the animated segments, if that doesn't cut it for you). Bill Gates' presence in the Mario series is obscure, yes, but he is a present character with relevance to a story; we can't think of a compelling reason to merge Bill Gates' article without merging a bunch of other random third-party characters to various work articles for no real reason--a move that would only make sense under a drastically different policy for coverage of cameos and non-first party media.
  4. TheUndescribableGhost (talk) Per everyone else. Bill Gates is an actual character and it's not like the franchise has that many instances of celebrities appearing.
  5. DrippingYellow (talk) Per all. Even if this isn't an actual cameo by Bill Gates (rather, a parody representation of him), this is fairly consistent with how we handle the live-action segment charactes that only appear once.
  6. ThePowerPlayer (talk) Per all.
  7. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

@Hewer: That's true, I just feel the page doesn't have enough distinct substance from the main Shitamachi Ninjō Gekijō page.
