Ryan repiles: Hmm... theres two articles, Big Mr. I and Mr. I; should we merge them together or remain as saparate?

There's enough distinction between the two to let them remain separate. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 02:10, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Mario Party 8[edit]

Mr. I comes in -four- different sizes in Eyebrawl (the smaller ones at the end of the minigame being smaller than the starting size), and the Mario Party 8 Prima guide indicates that it's the same one that keeps changing "form" (ie. enlarging). Doesn't it seem speculative to call the largest/larger sizes an appearance of Big Mr. I? This would mean that the other sizes are unaccounted for. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:54, September 6, 2022 (EDT)

Mario Party minigames generally tend to be creative in this type of interpretation of characters and I think the big Mr. Is in the minigame are just Mr. Is, but big. Even the minigame description for Eyebrawl just describes it as simply a "Mr. I" rather than a Big Mr. I. Also, btw, in Eye Sore, the Mr. I described in the minigame is labeled as a "Big Mr. I" but Big Mr. I doesn't even mention that. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:00, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
That was determined to be a mistranslation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:18, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
Yep; this was discussed a mere few hours ago right here, and the info on Big Mr I's page was promptly moved to the regular Mr I page. Arend (talk) 19:21, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
Question is, should this mistranslation count as an official parsing of the name or not? BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 19:40, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
Probably not, considering it hasn't appeared in a newer game with the revised parsing, especially if we're no longer counting Mario Party 8. LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:20, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
Honestly, given the fact that the alleged Lang-of-Orig "name" is a mission title's generic description that looks nothing like the same language's name for Mr. I and Portal/Encyclopedia doesn't even mention it, it's probably entirely the same entity in Japanese. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:52, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
I thought that since Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. states「大きなタイプも。」(Also has a large type.) under the「アイクン」profile on page 85, but the Super Mario 64/DS Shogakukan guides refer to it as「おおめだま」anyway, at least in the parts describing the mission. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:21, September 6, 2022 (EDT)
I know this is a somewhat old discussion, but I'll add that the description of the mission in the Encyclopedia refers to the enemy as「大きなアイクン」, so "large Mr. I"? Coupled with the "large type" comment, it sounds like the distinction has been abandoned. Blinker (talk) 11:29, January 19, 2024 (EST)
