Uh...

Uh, the jump in Super Mario Bros. 2 is elsewhere referred to here in the Wiki as the Power Squat Jump, and it's technically NOT a Somersault. Should I edit that part out? Dinosaur bob 23:07, 6 August 2008 (EDT)

  • If I remember correctly, Super Mario Advance gives the Power Squat Jump its own animation different from the usual jump, turning it into a backflip. 76.177.198.199 14:44, 26 November 2014 (EST)

How do you get the name 'Somersault' from a back-flip move? I think we should move this to a page called Backflip, since when Luigi performs it, it is called a Helicopter Backflip. -Cmario17 (talk)

The prima official game guide for Super Mario Galaxy calls it backflip. Petey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in TimeGalacticPeteyPetey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

In the instruction booklet, it says this is Back Flip too. And there's an article called Back Flip.... Lucina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC

All of those are true, but the game Super Mario Galaxy 2 refers to it as a somersault. Koopa K! The KoopaTrooper User! (talk) 07:41, 21 August 2012 (EDT)

Merge Backflip here or split backwards somersault info and merge that to backflip

Split backwards somersault and merge that with backflip 1-6-0-0

These are the same thing. Having them split could make some amount of sense if back and side somersaults were split as they have elements of both, but they aren't split, and even then it could work. Also, more people are going to search for "backflip" anyways.

Split backwards somersault and merge that with backflip

  2. Alex95 (talk) - I'd rather see the two backflips merged on one page than just jamming two different types of flips together.
  3. Trig Jegman (talk) Back flip and back somersault are the same backwards height oriented move but not necessarily side somersault.

Just split backwards somersault

Do nothing

I'd rather see backflip and side somersault split first before this happens, tbh. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:01, February 11, 2020 (EST)

So about the proposal

Question.svg This talk page or section has a conflict or a question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

It's confusing how to proceed since it's been listed as passed, but not enacted in the proposals page at the time of this writing. What is more confusing is the present state of the page. There is an edit by a user that hasn't participated in the proposal (making me feel that they didn't realize their actions could've interfered with an oldish proposal a few months ago) and removed all information that isn't the backward somersault in July 2020 (proposal was done in February 2020) and then moved the page to backward somersault. Is this edit even allowed to happen? Should it have happened and remained there? Anyway, what we got at the time of this writing is some weird result where all content we have currently actually has to be fully merged to backflip to enact the proposal. In other words, this article is currently duplicate material with backflip. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! Sorry about that, I've been busy with school and job stuff. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:42, November 29, 2020 (EST)
That's fair. I'm just wondering how to proceed with this article and have the proposal be enacted. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 15:54, November 30, 2020 (EST)
