CPU in Subspace Emissary Mode? That sounds new.Edit

From the article in question: "In single player, teams are still available. However, the second character is a CPU, and if the main character is defeated, the player takes control of the second player, until it, too, is defeated."

I knew about single-player controlled teams, but the second character can be a Computer Player (CPU)? That's news to me; I thought the other selected characters were merely extra lives, which are different from a computer-controlled player. The instruction manual and GameFAQS don't seem to corroborate this. Can you elucidate upon this claim, please, if you can? I know I've pressed every button on the controller during character selection and during gameplay in one-player mode, and certainly haven't seen any evidence about the above statement being true.

It's a lie. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Huh. Well, that lie's still on the article's page as of April 12 9:54PM GMT.

more infoEdit

Do you think that we should include information on the actual levels of each stage, rather than just the cut scene. for example: The Glacial Peak. I added information on the level so that it would be more of an article than a movie summary. The smash wiki has some info we could use. glacial peak GG445   "...?"

Character SnapshotsEdit

I hope you won't mind that I/we put in the snapshot's each character had in the Subspace emissary.

Merge to Super Smash Bros. BrawlEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

merge 11-0
This article is clearly a mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and I see no reason to allow it to stay as a separate article. The general rule of thumb has been to keep story related information on the game article itself. What makes this an exception? Despite the fact that this article has been around for a long time, I cannot seem to find any consensus to separate this article from the game's article.

NOTE: Article size is not a legitimate reason to keep these separate. We have articles much longer than Super Smash Bros. Brawl and we shouldn't make exceptions based simply on article size.

@Knife: I'm not being sarcastic... Did I miss some conversation somewhere about not placing new TPPs on the list of TPPs on MarioWiki:Proposals? If there's not a reason why you don't want them there, then I volunteer to list them on the proposals page. Bop1996 (Talk) 07:27, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

Totally slipped my mind. You can go ahead and do it for me, thanks.--Knife (talk) 17:21, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

All four of your TPPs are on the list now. And you're welcome, just trying to be helpful. Bop1996 (Talk) 18:48, 15 April 2011 (EDT)

@Zero: If that's true, why don't we do the same for even longer articles like Trophy Descriptions (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) and Mario? Merging this with SSBB would only make the article as long as the Mario article. BTW, I'm getting all these figures from Special:LongPages.-Knife (talk) 11:04, 16 April 2011 (EDT)

This article's big mostly from spaces between |-s. It would shrink by 1/4-1/3 of size if I'll just delete them with replacer. SWFlash
No, sorry, I was wrong, there wasn't as much |-s as I though. SWFlash
I never knew we had a page like that, alright I'll change vote. Zero777 (talk)

Recreate this articleEdit

This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

do not recreate 0-5
I'm making a proposal about recreating this article. While it involves the main Super Smash Bros. cast and its share of unique bosses and enemies, there are several Mario-related elements in The Subspace Emissary. The proposal above argues that this is a mode, which is true, but it has a substantial amount of content.

The first stage, Midair Stadium, involves a battle against Mario and Kirby, the latter arguably also having large representation (given Kirby Super Star and Masahiro Sakurai's direct involvement with both), but this is about Mario. The first boss is Petey Piranha, who is from the Mario games, and there is the choice to rescue either Princess Peach or Princess Zelda, which changes the story accordingly. Then there's Wario and Bowser playing large antagonistic roles within the story. Also, the Subspace Army consists of Goombas and Koopa Troopas, who are the only members to not be original to the Super Smash Bros. series (aside from the R.O.B.s and their derivatives).

The game is a 2.5D platformer essentially, and there could be a gameplay section to tell about some of the Mario-related mechanics (for instance, The Jungle features Barrel Cannons), although need to also discern what is from Kirby and what is staples of the platforming genre in general.

There are 31 stages. Of these, only The Ruined Zoo, The Battlefield Fortress, The Research Facility (parts 1 & 2), The Path to the Ruins, The Ruins, The Wilds (Part 1), The Ruined Hall, The Glacial Peak, Battleship Halberd Interior, and The Subspace Bomb Factory (part 1) are the only stages to not have Mario characters. Even then, a few of the cases are followed by a second part in which a Mario character is playable (take The Wilds Part 2 for instance, or even some stages directly after, like Battleship Halberd Exterior after the Interior). Like I said, there's also the fact that the story/cutscenes change whether its Peach or Zelda who is rescued from Petey Piranha at the beginning. Even in stages and/or cutscenes where there are not characters or content from the main Mario franchise, a majority of them consist of Mario-related subjects, so the Mario franchise is the most represented within Super Smash Bros. Brawl, just like with the overall series. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that a full plot summary in The Subspace Emissary article is justified, and a shorter one can be on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl article itself. The individual Subspace Emissary stages have articles (though Skyworld needs to be split), so why not give The Subspace Emissary its own article? It feels kind of inconsistent. Modes such as Home-Run Contest have their own article and are less directly related to Mario.

Like my The Legend of Zelda-related proposals, we can figure out how to present the article if it passes. Perhaps we can include the full plot, and in the opening section summarize all of the Mario-related content within the mode (such as the bosses, the Subspace Army enemies from Mario, and the inclusion of Mario characters in general) and the roles that they play.

OpposeEdit

  1. Tails777 (talk) I feel this is a bit too big of a topic to give near full coverage for. Even if it does use a lot of Mario series content, the purpose of the SSE is to be a massive story focused on every playable character, even if they're not all evenly represented (thanks in part to Sonic popping up at the literal end of it). I feel this might be attempting to stretch the Smash coverage just a bit and is better off being fully covered on Smash Wiki rather than here.
  2. 7feetunder (talk) Per Tails777. Also, I don't think Home-Run Contest should have its own article (and I was unaware that it did).
  3. BBQ Turtle (talk) Per all.
  4. Bazooka Mario (talk) I see little need to go in-depth with this mode.
  5. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all. As I've mentioned on other similar proposals, I would rather go in the direction of limiting Super Smash Bros. content rather than expanding it. In fact, I question whether it is necessary for us to have individual articles covering the individual Subspace Emissary levels, especially since it is true that some do not involve Mario characters at all.
