Sharkbone

According to one of my friends, his name is "Sharkbone". I'm usually not the kind to believe something so easily, but the only place he could've gotten that from was probably the Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga Player's Guide, which he happens to own. Does that call him "Sharkbone"? If so, I think that should be added to the article.--YellowYoshi398 13:25, 28 December 2006 (EST)

According to me he is Sharkbone. Not sure thought. Paper Jorge

I think its a good idea.Knife (talk)

Yeah well...what's the name of those sharks in Super Mario World? the undead ones? The sharks must be them... Paper Jorge

I don't remember any undead sharks in Super Mario World... Are you thinking of Fishbone? --YellowYoshi398

TMK put the "Sharkbone" mystery to rest recently, and I've updated both this page and that of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga/Beta elements to reflect their discovery. YELLOWYOSHI398

Disambiguation page for ???? (move this to Sharkbone?)

There is reason to have a disambiguation page for ????, because Dream's Deep is called ???? in the Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros. map. Samario (talk)

Name

For future reference, the Prima guide for ML:SS refers to the "Sharkbone" as a "large, skeletal sand shark" or just "sand shark", and the "Sand-Cheep" as "a tiny, fist-like creature". Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

The Easy Mode hint lists their names in the hint "Sand Cheep and Sharkbone". The only difference is that Sand Cheep is missing the hyphen from the middle. Should the page be moved? PPLToast (talk) 12:35, 6 October 2017 (EDT)

Their in-battle name is still the same, so it might be easier to leave it be unless we're talking about splitting them altogether. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:46, 6 October 2017 (EDT)
Regardless, this should be mentioned on the page, and the bestiary identifiers should be changed to fit this. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:10, 26 December 2017 (EST)

Split Sand-Cheep and Sharkbone?

These are two different enemies with the same page. They share an in-battle name because otherwise their attacks wouldn’t be effective. Besides, we have enemies like Troopea and Elite Troopea split, so I don’t see why we should keep these guys on the same article. And the name "????" is ambiguous; it can refer to several others listed on the ??? page. I think Sand-Cheep and Sharkbone should be split, and this page should be a redirect to ???. -YFJ (talk · edits) 18:02, 10 March 2018 (EST)

Is ???? treated as a single enemy, but it only just "becomes" one or the other when it attacks randomly, or is its identity always a Sand[-]Cheep or Sharkbone in battle? If the former, it's better to keep it together as-is; if the latter, I'd support a split. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:04, 20 March 2018 (EDT)
If it starts a Sand Cheep, it's always a Sand Cheep, and vice-versa. The remake even shows which is a Sand Cheep at the start of battle if you look close enough. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:58, 20 March 2018 (EDT)
On the one hand, they have different stats and behavior and only Sand Cheeps appear outside of battles. On the other hand, if you don't know which is which in the battle, you may jump when you're suppose to stay or stay when you're suppose to jump. And they mix themselves up in the battle. Which is not the case for Antasma. They are also different enemies, which is not the case for Hermite Crabs. Could go either way. But, as for me, I would keep them on the same. This is how the enemy does two different attack, and they are the only enemies that do so. This means that it would be hard to get another source. Red Yoshi in a construction hat walking Yoshi the SSM (talk) 19:58, 20 March 2018 (EDT)
Hmmm... Yeah! That's true! Their HP, Defense Power, and health are different. Sand-Cheeps ressemble Blurp with a blue shark fin, while Sharkbones are shark's bones with a blue shark fin. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 04:05, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
If I may intervene, the only thing left (maybe) would be to verify that Sand-Cheep and Sharkbone have different names across all languages, since I'm fairly certain they do. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 17:15, 24 September 2018 (EDT)
Are Sand-Cheep and Sharkbone in-game name, or are they from a manual? And, also has any one found a Japanese name? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 12:42, 30 October 2018 (EDT)
They are in-game names, found in the hints in the 3DS remake of the game. Don't have Japanese names, sorry. -YFJ (talk · edits) 13:35, 30 October 2018 (EDT)
Maybe LinkTheLefty has some, and he understands Japanese, has Japanese Guides for the games. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 03:59, 27 November 2018 (EST)
Not for this game, sorry. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:18, 27 November 2018 (EST)
They have different Japanese names in the Guide.

I think we definitely should split the article. They are two separate enemies with different stats and different names. Obsessive Mario Fan (talk) 18:25, April 15, 2019 (EDT)

One is a shark skeleton, and one is a Blurp, and have different stats. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 10:47, May 25, 2019 (EDT)
(the blurp thing again...) But their name is the same, but we could turn ???? Into a disambuligation psge!!! [-]€40 vv@(talk · edits)Hyperluigi.gif 10:49, May 25, 2019 (EDT)
Actually a redirect to ???. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 02:13, June 11, 2019 (EDT)
I think the best decision would be to add Sharkbone and Sand Cheep to that disambiguation page, with this redirecting there. --DeepFriedCabbage 18:21, June 14, 2019 (EDT)

Split Sand Cheep and Sharkbone

split 15-0
Okay, so these are separate enemies with different appearances, stats, and names (in both English and Japanese), merged solely because they are only referred to as "????" in-battle. Just like Bubble Blooper and Dried Blooper before it, I propose we split these two completely different enemies, and then make "????" a disambiguation page (perhaps by moving ??? to that title).

Should this talk page be moved to somewhere?

So, this is the talk page for ????, which is a redirect to ??? (with the talk page for ??? being non-created), and thus, I though of moving this talk page to "Talk:???" for consistency.

The thing is that this talk page is basically an old talk page of both Sharkbone and Sand Cheep, and isn't actually covering the ??? disambiguation page per sé, so I don't think that moving it to "Talk:???" would be ideal as it actually isn't the talk page for said page. But this can't be moved either to "Talk:Sharkbone" and/or "Talk:Sand Cheep" because this can't be the talk page for two separate pages, and if it is moved to just one, I don't know which one would be. And, my conflict is that this page is basically orphaned and left behind altogether, with it having only 4 minor links to it, so I don't think that leaving it where it is would be good. I also thought of setting this as a proper archive, but if so, I don't know where would be linked said archive anyways.

In short, I think that it is better moving this talk page to somewhere, but I don't know where. So so, should it be moved? And if so, to where? -Kirbeat (talk) 22:12, January 23, 2022 (EST)

I suppose for the time being, we use {{main}} or something similar in both talk pages that link to this talk page. (e.g Talk:Sand Cheep has {{main}} that links to Talk:????, and Talk:Sharkbone has {{main}} that links to Talk:???? too.) Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:14, January 23, 2022 (EST)
Talk:???? covers the sand fish variations specifically, as the other ???'s deal with other subjects and redirect to this disambig, so I think right now, despite being orphaned, that it's the way to go. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 22:16, January 23, 2022 (EST)
Ah yes, putting {{main}} in both talk pages would both make room for the talk pages of each of the fishes separately, while also preserving this one as one talk page that serves both of them, which could be ideal if someone wants to discuss about both fishes equally in the future. So yeah, that would work. -Kirbeat (talk) 14:46, January 24, 2022 (EST)
Welp I created both talk pages and put a {{main}} on them linking to here. I think that it is better to do that now instead of waiting until someone creates those pages to make some actual discussion topic, because in that way this talk page will be properly "archived" without being forgotten in the future, and people will now that this talk page work as one covering both sand fishes. Let me know if I broke something. -Kirbeat (talk) 00:33, January 31, 2022 (EST)
