Swipin' Stu

Swipin' Stu[1][2], also known as Flying Goomba[3], Doro Kuri[4] and Kuri[5], is a variety of Strollin' Stu appearing in the game Super Mario Sunshine that appears in Pinna Park in episodes 5, 6, 7 and 8.

A Swipin' Stu with the Mario Cap

Swipin' Stus resemble the Winged Strollin' Stus, except they are larger and have a green bottom instead of blue. The green part also travel over the Stu's head, similar to a hoodie. If the player looks closely, they will also see that it has darker skin than a typical Strollin' Stu. Swipin' Stus attack when Mario walks beneath them, attempting to land on him. If a Swipin' Stu succeeds, it will steal the Mario Cap, and spontaneously grow a mustache similar to Mario's. Without his cap, Mario will slowly lose health when in direct sunlight. To retrieve his cap, Mario must either Ground Pound the Swipin' Stu's and take it back, or re-enter Pinna Park for the game to reset its position.

Originally, bipedal Swipin' Stus were intended to appear during the King Boo fight.[6] They were presumably removed due to it not making sense for Mario to get a sunstroke in the basement.

  • When the Swipin' Stu has stolen Mario's cap, it grows a mustache under its nose. In this state, it greatly resembles enemies captured by Cappy in Super Mario Odyssey.
