Super Mario Klemp-Won-Do: Muskeln sind nicht alles! (English translation: Super Mario Plumb-Won-Do: Muscles are not everything!) is the name of a comic published in the May 1992 issue of the German Club Nintendo magazine. It is the first comic in this magazine to be four pages long.

Plot synopsis

Mario "defeating" Zangief.

The story starts with Mario looking at a shield outside that advertises a fighting tournament ("Street Fighter II - Who will become grand master?"). Mario takes interest in the contest, with an imaginary vision of him being celebrated for winning, and decides to commit to preparing. While Mario runs a hard triathlon as part of his training, Luigi jokingly asks whether his building loan contract is expiring. Finally, after several weeks of practice (though with no change in appearance), Mario goes to sign up for the tournament. Several Street Fighter II characters - Template:Wikia, Dhalsim, Ken, Chun-Li, and Blanka - are also present, all of whom are about twice as tall as Mario. The fighters make fun of him as he registers for the tourney, mockingly asking if he is delivering pizza.

Mario finds himself intimidated and tries to escape from the room, only to run directly into Donkey Kong, who is wearing a suit and sunglasses. The Kong insists that Mario stay and settle the score between the two of them; Mario decides to take his chances and stay in the tourney, where his first fight is against Zangief. The fighters are introduced by the referee (who looks suspiciously like Luigi) as "a man like a bison" and "an unimportant lightweight from Brooklyn". As the fight begins, Mario tries to avoid being grappled by Zangief and starts running around him. This renders Zangief dizzy, and he eventually falls over. The referee declares Mario the victor, much to his surprise.

Mario defeating Chun-Li.

In his second fight, Mario's opponent is Chun-Li, who he immediately falls in love with. Expecting a "victory kiss", he is surprised when she starts kicking him. This gives Mario the idea to tickle her feet with a feather. Unable to fight, Chun-Li loses the match, and Mario advances. The third fight has Mario up against Blanka; Mario is supported by Toad, who brings him some bananas. He cleverly uses them by throwing them in front of Blanka, who slips and falls right out of the boxing ring. In his fourth and last match, Mario fights against Dhalsim, who uses his Yoga Fire abilities. Mario is able to avoid his fireballs; after bringing a bucket of water, the plumber pours it out on his opponent, making him unable to use his fire skills. Dhalsim tries to kick Mario afterwards, but Mario grabs his leg as it stretches and ties his body up into a knot, winning him the tournament and the trophy.

Trivia

  • Ryu, the main character of Street Fighter, ironically did not appear in this comic; however, he would later appear alongside Mario characters in the film Wreck-It Ralph, and later in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Ken would also appear as a collectible trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, and would later become a fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. All other Street Fighter characters that appear in this comic appear as spirits in Ultimate.
