Template:Infobox Super Mario 64 DS for the Nintendo DS is a remake of Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. In it you can play as Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, and Wario, compared to the Nintendo 64's version, which only allows you to play as Mario.

Story

Peach writes a letter to Mario, which is apparently seen by both Wario and Luigi, who come in Warp Pipes along with Mario to Peach's Castle to get some cake. The two brothers were surprised to see Wario there and the three brave plumbers scuffled in the fields in front of the castle. The three stopped an raced into the castle, to be ambushed and taken prisoner by Bowser and his fellow cronies.

Yoshi was asleep the entire time, only to be awaken by Lakitu , who realized the green, yellow, and red plumbers haven't returned to the pipes to leave and instructed Yoshi to get them.

Gameplay

As in Super Mario 64, the courses are accessed by the different paintings on the castle's walls, but in the DS game, the player can collect 150 power stars, 30 more than the original game.

Character Selection

Picking a character.

To switch between there are three doors each symbolizing the character's first letter of their name. To Use them, go through the door and out will pop the character who's door he compliments. Switching to Yoshi will mean reentering the door that complements your character once more.

Flat Caps

The essential headgear.

When entering a world, hats are visible on your screen. When put on, the character will turn into the corresponding character who owns the flat hat. They are found on Goombas most of the time or randomly place in water or on land.

When hit by an enemy, the cap topples off and the character and will need to retrieve it in limited time.

When Yoshi, a player can select the cap when selecting a star, right after jumping into a painting. If a cap is selected, Yoshi will put it on after entering the course.

• Mario's Hat - a Red cap that allows you to turn into Mario
• Luigi's Hat - a Green cap that allows you to turn into Luigi
• Wario's Hat - a Yellow cap that allows you to turn into Wario

Character Unlocking

To have more of a chance beating the game, you need to unlock the three plumbers trapped by Bowser:

• Mario - use Yoshi, from the starting point in the castle, go up the stairs and to the right. Go straight to the next door, go through the 8 star door and hop into the Mario painting. Fight Goomba King for the M key by jumping into a spot marked "X" on the map.
• Luigi - Go to the top floor of Boo's mansion with Mario. THis level is very tricky, as some doors lead nowhere. Watch that footing!
• Wario - Once the large door right at the head of the stairs is unlocked, go inside, then get past another door leading to Snowman's Land. There's two Power Flowers, so use Luigi to go transparent into the mirror by the Snowman's Land wall, fight Chief Chilly for the W key.

Power Flower Power!

Each of the four characters has a special power from the power Flower in the ? box. Only Mario can get something other than a powerflower from the ? box and that would be a feather to help him fly. These forms last for a VERY short time.

Rabbits

Each character has a certain amount of rabbits to catch (they are color coded) , plus the sparkled white ones. The Rabbits will give up keys to drawers in the room behind the W , L , and M doors that open mini games.

Super-Secret Secret Stars

Secretive stars not even Bowser knows about. Grab them all to ensure victory!

Secret Stars
1-2	The Princess's Secret Slide	In the Character Selection room, leap into the Princess Peach stained glass mural on the righ; it's a secret slide! Get to the end to find a star; complete it in under 21 seconds to find a second one!	Anyone
3	The Secret Aquarium	In the room leading to Jolly Roger Bay, backwards-somersalt into the alcove in the left side of the room. Swim about and grab all 8 Red Coins.	Anyone
4	The Secret Of Battle Fort	In the Courtyard (the outside area with lots of Boos) find three bricks placed together. Ground-Pound or punch the bricks to expose a secret entrance to Battle Fort! In this area, grab all the Silver Stars while avoiding Heave-Hos and a Chukya. Remember, some stars may be in bricks or Goombas!	Anyone
5	? Switch	With 12 stars and playing as Mario, go to the starting point in the castle. Press and hold the X Button the enter First Person mode, than look up into the beam of light. Here, Mario can both stomp a ? Switch and grab 8 Red Coins to earm a star!	Mario
6-7	Behind The Waterfall	Use Metal Wario to collect the 8 red coins in the speeding river behind the main waterfall in Hazy Maze Cave. To enter, get down to the bottom section of the cave. Ride on Dorrie to gain access to a door nestled in a nook by the lake. Jump into the pool to enter the area! Another star can be found using Mario; in the small island at the end of the area, smash the block and grab to Power Flower. Float up, following coins, to grab another star!	Wario/Mario
7-8	The Secret Under The Moat	Collect 8 Red Coins over the obstacles with all three plumbers. Enter this area by draining the moat, the using Wario to smash the black bricks over the entrance. Wario must use a Luigi hat to get the Red Coind star, but a Mario Hat can grab a Switch Star! Grab the hat, the race back to the end of the slope. Smash block, gain Flower, then float over to a small outcropping to the left. Stomp the Swhitch for the star, then use two Power FLowers to make Wairo's way up, up, up to the star. 8-9	Over the Rainbows	Fly and collect the 8 red coins from the many clouds. Enter by leaping into the alcove to the right in the room with the entrance to Tick-Tock Clock/Bowser in the Dark World. Also, on the island with a cannon, grab the Wario hat. Talk to the Bob-Omb Buddy, leap in the cannon, and carefully fire Mario/Wario to the island with a black block. Break it and grab the Power Star reward!	Mario
10-11	Bowser In The Dark World	Race up the four outcroppings above the see-saws to claim the Temporary star after hitting the switch near the pipe. And after collecting 8 Red Coins, another star will appear near the tube	Anyone
11-12	Bowser In The Fire Sea	Race up the four outcroppings above the see-saws to claim the Temporary star by wall-kicking up the various ledges near the Bowser warp pipe. Collect 8 Red Coins to earn another!	Mario or Luigi
12-13	Bowser In The Sky	Race up the spinning purple spear with an Amp rotating around it to claim the timed Switch Star after hitting the switch below the Whomp.	Anyone
14	Red Stars in the Courtyard	In the Courtyard, ground-pound or puncy every Boo to earn 8 Red COins.. and a Star!	Anyone
15	Sunshine Isles	In the Rec Room (the room with the Minigame chest), leap into the small painting of a sunny island. Here, grab 5 Silver Stars to earn a Secret Star!	Anyone
16-17	Gomboss Red Coin/Switch Stars	In the Goomboss battle, Mario can cross rickety platforms to stomp a switch and Wall-Jump up to a Switch Star. To grab the 8 Red Coins, Mario must use every character's cap to sbash blue blocks, wall-jump, turn transparent, and backflip his way to the Red Coin Star.	Mario with Caps
Big Boo Red Coin/Secret Stars	In the Big Boo Battle, use Luigi to snag every Red Coin and unearth a star. Luigi again must make his way to the end, then grab a Power FLower and racce throught the Boo painting by the collapsible bridge to get another star.	Luigi
20-21	Cheif Chilly Red Coin/Secret Stars	In the Cheif Chilly Challenge, Wario can turn metal and slowly make his way up a narrow, windy path to smash a black brick and earn a star! Luigi is the best choice for collecting the Red Coins. All are easy to grab, but Luigi must turn transparent to grab to last one.	Wario/Luigi
22	Through the Looking Glass	In the mirrored room leading to Snowman's Land and Cheif Chilly Challenge, use Luigi to snag a Power Flower and run through the mirror. Go inside the door on the other side and voila! A star just waiting to be grabbed.	Luigi
23	Eight Glowing Rabbits	After 8 Power Stars are secured, Glowing Rabbits randomly appear around the castle in place of ordinary ones. Eight must be grabbed to earn a Star, but they are so scarce, it's rare to find ONE! Yoshi can wrap up this problem, though. He has six rabbits out in front of the castle, three in front of the bridge, one in the moat, one in the flowerbed, and one in the hedge. Just enter and re-enter the castle to wuickly summon eight rabbits. When the last one is caught, a key is given that unlockes the last room in the Character Selection area!
24-27	Toad's Secured Stars	The helpful Toads have snagged three stars; all one must do to grab one is talk to them! Toads with stars are: Near the entrance to the Hazy Maze Cave course; on the castle's second floor, near the painting that leads to the Tall, Tall Mountain course; and on the castle's third floor, just right of the big clock that leads to Tick Tock Clock.

Bowser Boss Battles

Bowser at last.....

Bowser has kidnapped Peach, and, as expected, throughout the adventure he holds the keys to the next floors. Beat him by swinging him into the spike balls once (and three times for the final battle)to get his key and , finally, the final power star.

Loves Me......? - Pluck the flower Yoshi holds, find out if your crush really lusts over you or if they just plain dislike you.

Mario's Slides - Help Mario by guiding him down the many slides

Bounce and Pounce - Beat the Fly Guys and bounce on them with Mario

Trampoline Time - Draw lines to help Mario Jump, three lines only!

Shuffle Shell - Push Koopa shells to the bullseye

Trampoline Terror - Help Mario get through the rings with a three line draw limit

Memory Match - play the Memory Game

Pair-a-Gone - place two cards that are the same without touching the others

Memory Master - play the Memory Game but with more cards

• Wario:

Bob-omb Squad - knock the Bob-ombs out of the sky with a sling shot

Snowball Slalom - Roll the snowball down the hill before time recedes

Lakitu Launch - Shoot as many balls as possible in a cup in the limited time given.

Concentration - notice where the falling coins wind up, choose the wrong block that occupies coins, Game Over

Psych Out! - Guess what card is being bestowed from you . 50-50 chance.

Bingo Ball - Through a Ball and score three numbers as possible in a row
