This article is about the CoroCoro Comic manga. For the Pikkapika Comics manga, see Super Mario-Kun (Pikkapika Comics).

Template:Manga-infobox Super Mario-Kun (referred to as SUPER MARIO KUN in Super Mario Maker) is a Japanese-published Mario manga series written by Yukio Sawada and published by Shogakukan. The manga is printed monthly in CoroCoro Comic. They contain many of the characters and scenarios retellings of various Mario games, including Super Mario World and Paper Mario. Some events in the books do not happen in games.

The series is aimed at children, and it features different twists on the stories. It contains some crude humor, puns, breaking the fourth wall, and slapstick violence. There are also a few puzzles (such as mazes and objects hidden in scenes) to be solved throughout the installments.

Starting in August 2014, the Super Mario-Kun series has been released for the "Bookstore Anywhere" application on Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The series has been released in bundles of ten volumes up to volume 40, and are available for 4,400 yen each. The first set containing volumes one through ten was released on August 27, 2014 the second set on September 24, the third on October 29, and the fourth on November 26.[1]

In December 2014, Soleil Productions began to publish a French localization of the series in its Soleil Manga collection, titled Super Mario: Manga Adventures[2]. A Spanish translation by Planeta Cómic under the name Super Mario Aventuras has started to be released since late November 2016[3].

To celebrate the manga series' 25th anniversary, Mario's Super Mario-Kun design was added as a Costume Mario in Super Mario Maker. The costume is unlocked by clearing the "SUPER MARIO KUN 25th Anniversary" Event course.

4 Fourth part of the Super Mario World arc: Mario, Luigi and Yoshi finally reach the Valley of Bowser and must face more traps from Bowser's troops as the winter holidays come near. On the way to rescuing Princess Peach, the heroes find themselves warped into Hyrule, have to face a giant aggressive Mario created through Mario Paint, must rescue the final Yoshi egg and defeat Larry after Mario dies in battle and goes to Hell before returning, and finally have a climactic battle against Bowser at Bowser's Castle during his and Peach's marriage. 5 Fifth part of the Super Mario World arc: Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach again and Mario, Luigi and Yoshi reach his castle once again but fail several times to infiltrate it. Chapters reference other Mario titles such as Yoshi, and the heroes battle Lemmy in a variation of Gnat Attack. It is revealed that in the far future, Bowser becomes the servant of Princess Peach due to being defeated by Mario, and the volume concludes with the three heroes liberating Star Road's Power-Ups from a mysterious villain who is revealed to be Bowser 3, Bowser's incarnation from Super Mario Bros. 3, culminating in a final battle. 6 Sixth part of the Super Mario World arc: Mario, Luigi and Yoshi go back to their rescue of Princess Peach and face more foes, while chapters make references to Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Yoshi's Cookie. Bowser has built another castle after the destruction of the first one. Mario is challenged twice by Donkey Kong Jr. to a kart race, the heroes fight with Birdo and more bosses from Super Mario Bros. 2, and save Princess Peach but lose her again after a trip through the Special Zone. Mario and Bowser have a Super Mario Kart Battle Mode duel before they must team up to save Princess Peach from an accidental curse. The volume ends with Mario going to Mario Land after learning Wario has taken over. Template:Released

7 First part of the Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins arc: Mario and a sentient Carrot try to liberate Mario Land by collecting the six Golden Coins. Mario and Carrot go through the Tree Zone and defeat the Big Bird guarding one of the Golden Coins. As Yoshi sends Mario gifts for liberating Dinosaur Land, they are soon joined by Cooshi, a sentient Yoshi Cookie. They then travel through the Turtle Zone, where they are helped by friendly Goombas and defeat the Octopus. Following this, they go through the Macro Zone where they defeat the Sewer Rat with the help of Keibu. There are also two one-off stories: in one, Peach and the Koopa Troop under her orders hatch a plan to make Mario lose weight, and in another Mario and Yoshi try to save a people from a curse by adventuring through RPG Village. 8 Super Mario Bros. 2 arc: Wart takes over Subcon and challenges Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Birdo to rescue the land. The four heroes travel through the six worlds of Subcon, defeating Mouser, Tryclyde, Fryguy and Clawgrip along the way. Birdo dies trying to protect Yoshi, but is quickly replaced with Toad. The final battle against Wart proves itself to be extremely difficult however, as Wart is not sensitive to vegetables anymore and has the ability to transform. Eventually, Wart is defeated through the combined efforts of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Bowser, the Birdo clan, Baby Yoshis, and Yoshi's dangerous hunger, but Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach again while leaving.

Second part of the Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins arc: Mario, Carrot and Cooshi go through the Pumpkin Zone and defeat the Witch. There are also two one-off stories: in one, based off Mario & Wario, Wario uses buckets to make Mario, Yoshi and Peach lose themselves in a forest. In the other, Bowser's troops ambush Mario and Yoshi, who have to rely on moves from Yoshi's Safari and Yoshi to win.

9 After the Lost Crystal Mushroom arc: Original story based off Yoshi's Safari, with references to other media such as Yoshi's Cookie and the Super Mario Bros. film. After defeating Wario, Mario and Luigi have settled on Yoshi's Island, but they receive news from Princess Peach that the world has gone into chaos and the three Crystal Mushrooms must be recovered to save it. Mario, Luigi and Yoshi adventure though Dinosaur Land, fighting stronger versions of past enemies and finally finding the first Crystal Mushroom in the ruins of Bowser's old castle thanks to the help of Birdo, who has returned as a fairy. After accidentally drifting off to another land, the heroes encounter Bowser who possesses the second Crystal Mushroom and steals the protagonists' as well. The next step in the journey is Jewelry Land, which has been turned into a mechanical land by Bowser. Using the Super Scope, Mario and Yoshi, the only characters to be unaffected by the mechanical virus, face Ludwig, King Blooper and finally Mecha Bowser himself. They recover the three Crystal Mushrooms and undo the curse on the world, revealing the Super Scope to be a transformed Prince Pine. However, they haven't rescued Princess Peach yet, and Bowser ambushes the heroes while they are taking another break, forcing them to go through the first stage of Mario Bros. in an angered state before a final battle with Mecha Koopa.

First part of the Mario & Wario arc: While Peach is still under Bowser's guard, Wario throws a bucket on her head, revealing to Bowser that Luigi possesses the key to take it off. Bowser rushes to Mario's home at Yoshi's Island, only to learn that Mario himself has had a bucket thrown on him by Wario and that Luigi has been out for a walk. The fairy Wanda appears to help the heroes in their quest to find Luigi, but due to an unfortunate incident she ends up being merged with Bowser. Mario, Yoshi, Bowser and Wanda go through the Forest of Fairies and manage to take the bucket off Mario's head after it turned into an enemy. They then go through the Yoshi Lake, where they battle a monster made of eggshells dropped by Wario.

Third part of the Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins arc: Mario, Carrot and Cooshi reach the Space Zone, landing on the Moon and facing Tatanga with the help of the Hippo, after the alien monster stole the five Golden Coins the heroes had collected so far. However, they are defeated in battle and fall back to Mario Land, but Bowser, disguised as Santa Claus, defeats Tatanga and gives Mario all six Golden Coins as a Christmas gift. The volume concludes with a one-off story in which Wario and a Goomba go treasure hunting underwater.

10 Partially based on the idea of the game Super Mario All-Stars. On the front cover various enemies, including Wart, and many of Mario's friends and foes are featured, and the puzzle section is in a mash-up style. The volume contains the conclusion to the Super Mario Land 2 story, the continuation of the Mario & Wario and Yoshi's Safari arcs, as well as elements of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Tetris, and Wario donning a Power Suit in homage to Metroid's Samus Aran. 11 Based on the game Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and on the game Wario's Woods. In the Wario Land adaptation, Mario and Yoshi go with Wario in the trip to stop Captain Syrup, while, in the Wario's Woods adaptation, Wanda appears in Peach's Castle Garden asking for help to stop Wario, so Mario, Yoshi, Luigi and Toad go to help her. Another chapter in this volume focuses on the Game Boy game Donkey Kong. On the front cover, there are forms that Wario can gain from the Jar Powerups. Template:Released

12 Another volume that is based on the game Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Also within is the second part of the adaptation of Wario's Woods. The front cover once again features the same Jar Powerups. Additionally, Luigi appears in the middle of the Wario Land adaptation, and Donkey Kong, both the Arcade and Country iterations, make appearances in these stories. A bonus chapter is also featured near the end, with a short story based on Donkey Kong Country. Template:Released

13 This volume wraps up the Wario's Woods storyline, and also finishes the Wario Land one. The huge Mario face on the cover indicates that the volume contains references to Mario's Picross, although this is only in a short section at the end. There is a sort of "look back" at previous volumes, with some elements from past adventures, as well as introducing some from Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Virtual Boy. Additionally, a "special story" about a Survival Race competition with competitors Mario, Yoshi, Bowser, Luigi, Wario, and Donkey Kong appeared in the volume. Template:Released

14 The next volume is based on the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and later, Donkey Kong Country. The volume starts with some changes to the Yoshi's Island story: Adult Mario with Adult Luigi travel to the past to stop Adult Bowser from helping Kamek kidnap the two baby twins, and help Yoshi to deliver Baby Mario. Mario and Yoshi then end up in the Donkey Kong Country story, where Cranky Kong asks for help for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong against King K. Rool. Inside the volume also are some 4-komas based on Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest with both Diddy and Dixie. Template:Released

15 This volume concludes the Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country story arcs, although the latter also incorporates the events and characters of Donkey Kong Land. Dixie also makes an appearance in the main story this time. A new arc based on Super Mario 64 begins, starting with Mario and Luigi receiving the new Nintendo 64. Mario then ventures through the first few worlds, and meets a Bob-omb Buddy who accompanies him throughout this story arc. The volume finishes with a short collection of 4koma based on Mario Kart 64. The front cover shows Mario flying with the Wing Cap as Baby Mario floats with the Cape and Yoshi takes on his Helicopter form. Template:Released

16 This volume is largely based on Super Mario 64, with the main storyline continuing in all chapters of this book (although it crosses over with Mario Kart 64 in one chapter). There are also two 4koma sets for Super Mario 64. Throughout the volume, Mario is accompanied by Yoshi and the same Bob-omb Buddy he met earlier. Template:Released

17 This volume is split, with about half continuing the Super Mario 64 arc while the other half follows Mario Kart 64 in a separate story, with Mario and friends having misadventures in the various tracks of the game. Template:Released

18 This volume further continues the Super Mario 64 arc, with Bowser resetting the game with a N64 controller during the final battle, forcing Mario to start again. This time however, Bowser has managed to infest Peach's Castle with his minions. It also features the second part of the Mario Kart 64 story, including a section based on the Battle Mode. 19 This volume completes the Super Mario 64 arc before moving into a story based on the events of Yoshi's Story. It features six Baby Yoshis as the main characters, as well as Mario and Poochy. Each Baby Yoshi has a unique personality and appearance, and they accompany Mario on a quest to retrieve the Super Happy Tree from Baby Bowser and save Yoshi's Island. Template:Released

22 Another volume based on Mario Party, this cover has some of the characters posing. It continues the story arc with Mario and companions searching for stars on Peach's Birthday Cake, Wario's Battle Canyon and Yoshi's Tropical Island. Mini-games included in these chapters are Hammer Drop, Coin Block Bash, Piranha's Pursuit, Tightrope Treachery, Crane Game, Key-pa-Way, Desert Dash, Balloon Burst, Treasure Divers, Running of the Bulb, and Cast Aways.

In addition to two side stories, which are based on Wario Land II and Mario Golf, there are two bonus chapters at the end of the volume. In the first one, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Bowser play a cooperative board game where they have to follow instructions given by a screen. The second one follows Donkey Kong as he battles against King K. Rool to protect a wish-granting coconut made out of crystal.

Super Mario-kun #22
23 Still based on Mario Party, with the Star on the cover. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario and Toad have a series of adventures to find and defeat Bowser, who stole almost every star they collected so far from them, thus preventing them from using their power against him. Along the way, they meet a friendly Ztar who escaped from Bowser's hideout on his magma mountain and leads the group to Bowser. Two Mario Party mini-games are included into the story, namely, Bombs Away and Hot Rope Jump.

Following the end of the Mario Party arc, a new mini-arc, taking place on Mario's Rainbow Castle, begins. Finally, this volume includes two bonus stories for Mario Golf and Donkey Kong 64 respectively.

25 This volume is based on Paper Mario as the cover shows some of the partners like "Lady Bow", "Goombario", and "Kooper" as well as "Eldstar", "Twink" and Bowser holding the "Star Rod". New partners are introduced throughout this arc, but many stay for only a short time, while Goombario and Kooper follow Mario more consistently. Apart from the main focus on Paper Mario, it has special chapters at the end dealing briefly with Wario Land 3 and Mario Tennis. July 28, 2001

26 This volume continues the Paper Mario arc, showing all the Star Spirits on the cover, along with Goombario and Kooper. During this arc, there is a short detour into Super Mario Advance with Mario's main companions through the arc, Goombario and Kooper. During a battle against antagonistic clouds in Lakilester's chapter, Luigi and the Poltergust 3000 make an appearance along with the reminder, "Luigi's Mansion now on sale!" Wario also helps, with a sign declaring "Wario Land Advance now on sale!". Luigi's Mansion and Mario Kart: Super Circuit are also covered in single special chapters at the end of the volume. 33 This is another volume based on Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, this shows the blimp used to get to Glitzville, along with the Emerald Crystal Star. It continues from the last arc. After Flurrie has assisted Mario in defeating Lord Crump in Magnus von Grapple, she gives him a Hammer that she controls and talks through while Mario, Goombella, and Koops continue in their adventures. The next segment deals with Glitzville, where Mario rescues Mini-Yoshi from Mr. Hoggle and they meet and defeat Rawk Hawk and Grubba. Finally, Mario, Kooper, and Goombella enter Creepy Steeple and Twilight Town and where they meet Doopliss and the pig residents. A disjointed chapter dealing with Toad, Yoshi, and Bowser follows. Finally, a segment on Mario vs. Donkey Kong appears near the end of the volume. September 28, 2005

It continues the story based off Super Mario Galaxy and the story based on Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story begins in this volume. At the making of this volume, the author meets with Shigeru Miyamoto and gets a drawing from him. At the end of the volume, there is a story arc based off the original Super Mario Bros., even basing designs off of it. November 27, 2009

Stories

This article is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it is being worked on. We hope to have it completed once we are able to translate information about the series in a professional manner.

While some stories are large arcs such as Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, there are also stories that are much smaller, sometimes less than a volume big. (#~#) or (#) indicates the volumes containing that story. (?) indicates that the name may be a mistranslation. Some stories run consecutively through several volumes, with half of the volume being one story and half of it being another story, or other similar splits in the volume.
