The star stage (as it is referred to in the game's Virtual Console manual) is the second level of the Space Zone in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Tatanga is fought at the end of this level.

Layout

The first half of the level consists of angry Stars which act as spikes, with coins that guide Mario through. Some stars also move horizontally or vertically. After a while, there is a ? Block with a Mushroom atop it. After navigating more angry stars, Mario reaches another ? Block with a Fire Flower inside. After this, angry stars start appearing in patterns, with another ? Block which contains another Fire Flower. There are also a few Tōsenbo in this level which start to appear. The next angry stars form the shape of an eye, with a large group of coins in the center. Once Mario makes it to the end of a narrow star passage, there are more angry stars spread out, with two ? Blocks nearby. There are then three rows of ? Blocks, with the Mid-Point Bell just after.

The last angry stars in this level are in tight formations, with a block along the way with another Mushroom on top. The last Tōsenbo is also in this star maze. At the end is a ? Block containing a Fire Flower, followed by the pipe which takes Mario to the battle with Tatanga.
