“This one is unmistakably spade-shaped. We'll call it...Spade Island.”
Captain T. Ode, Paper Mario: The Origami King

Spade Island is a location in Paper Mario: The Origami King, an island located in The Great Sea. It is found in the north part of the sea, charted in territory D-1. As the name suggests, it is not much more than a spade-shaped island with a few Toads in need of rescue. There are no Collectible Treasures to be found here.

Upon arriving at the island, Captain T. Ode notes its shape and names it accordingly. Once Mario and Olivia get off the boat and onto the dock, it is discovered there is a red Toad stuck in a large barrel in the center of the island. He asks Mario to find his friends, stuck in different places around the island.

  • The purple Toad is crammed in a barrel near the statue.
  • The blue Toad is stuck to the back of a folding chair occupied by an origami Goomba.
  • The green Toad is crumpled inside one of the coconuts in a tree Mario must hammer to drop.
  • The yellow Toad is in a unique spot. Mario must fill in the Not-Bottomless Hole covering the barrels, find the Hidden Block next to the barrels, then get onto the highest barrel and jump to find another Hidden Block containing the yellow Toad.

After each Toad is rescued, they insert themselves into the center barrel and must each be pushed in to break open the crate and free the Toad. He rewards Mario by indicating a spot to fish, which is actually located shortly southwest of this island. The Toad then realizes his vest is missing, prompting his friends to cover him up in the meantime.
