Somewhere Over the Rainbow is the sixth mission of Rainbow Ride in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. In Super Mario 64, this is the course's final mission. The objective is to use the cannon to reach a faraway platform. The mission's English and Japanese names are a reference to the song "Over the Rainbow" from MGM's The Wizard of Oz.

The player needs to take the route to the Rainbow Cruiser to get into the cannon.

If the player has not already opened the cannon, they will need to talk to the Bob-omb Buddy on top of the large maze, which the player can reach using Mario's Wall Kick at the back of the maze.

At the four spinning platforms, the player needs to take the magic carpet. After passing the obstacles on its path, the player needs to take the next carpet on the left before the one they are on falls. Remaining on that carpet and passing the spinning platform takes the player to the Rainbow Cruiser. On the stern of the ship is the cannon the player needs to jump into. The player needs to line up their shot so they fly through the rainbow ring in the air and grab the pole on the floating platform beyond it. While avoiding the Chuckya, the player has to hit the yellow block to reveal the Power Star.

In the DS remake, it is also possible to fly over to the platform with Balloon Mario using the momentum gained from the wind.
