Slopes are a placeable part in Super Mario Maker 2. It is found in the terrain section in the Course Maker. There are two different kinds of slopes: Steep Slopes and Gentle Slopes. When placed next to a ground tile, it makes a sound. The player can run up on these slopes, but moves slower upward on Steep Slopes than Gentle Slopes and vice versa downward. The player can also slide down slopes by crouching on a slope (this does not work in the Super Mario Bros. style). This can be used to defeat long strands of enemies. If the player Ground Pounds on a slope, they can get a speed boost when sliding down a slope.

Spike Balls are affected by these slopes. When going up a slope, it will slow down and will roll the other way if not at the top. It slows down more going up a Steep Slope than a Gentle Slope. When going down a slope, however, it speeds up and moves faster down Steep Slopes than Gentle Slopes. The player can change a Conveyor Belt's height into one similar to a Steep Slope but not a Gentle Slope. Slopes of both types are available in all styles and are styled as stairs in the Ghost House and Castle themes in the Super Mario 3D World style. In this case, they still have the same attributes as those of normal slopes. If the player places many ON/OFF Trampolines inside a Steep Slope, the player and most enemies can walk on the slope as if it was a staircase.
