Template:Event-infobox Short Track 1,000m is a Speed Skating Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to complete four laps of the course in the fastest time, with the event taking place in the Pacific Coliseum. Luigi, Daisy, Shadow and Metal Sonic appear taking place in this event in the game's opening, and the starting Olympic record for this event is held by Dr. Eggman with a time of 1:26.739. Toad and Espio appear as referees in this event.

Gameplay

In this event, the player starts by swinging the Wii Remote when "Go!" appears onscreen, with a perfectly timed swing giving the player a starting dash and an early one resulting in a foul and the event being started over. Once the character begins skating, the player can accelerate by shaking the Wii Remote left and right, with higher acceleration being achieved by faster shaking. When the character approaches a turn, the player must tilt the Wii Remote to the left to turn the corner, and should aim to stay in the green ideal cornering area. Doing so will give the character a speed boost. When the character approaches the next straight section of the track, the player can stop tilting and should shake the Wii Remote again to accelerate. If the player stops turning at the right time, the character will receive a speed boost when they stop cornering. When the character is not cornering, the player can also adjust their path by tilting the Wii Remote left and right rather than shaking it. The player can also receive a speed boost by following a character for an extended period of time and remaining in their slipstream or can use their special action by pressing A Button once during the event. The character that completes four laps of the course in the fastest time wins the event.
