History

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Screech appears as a mini-boss in the area The Flying Krock. Instead of battling Screech directly, Diddy and Dixie Kong instead race him as Squawks the Parrot after transforming into him using an Animal Barrel; the race against Screech takes place in the bramble and Zinger filled "Screech's Sprint" and end once either Screech or Squawks crosses a finish line composed of bananas. If Squawks is to lose against Screech, he also loses a life and has to race him again. Once Screech is beaten, Diddy and Dixie Kong gain access to Kaptain K. Rool's airship, the Flying Krock.

Donkey Kong Land 2

Screech appears in Donkey Kong Country 2's pseudo-port, Donkey Kong Land 2, where he has the same role as the previous game.

Screech is a brown parrot. He appears to be slightly bigger than Squawks. He has big yellow eyes with two small pupils. Screech has sharp talons, like Squawks. Though, Squawks has four claws on each talon, Screech only has three. He has a red and yellow tail with brown and red wings. Screech also has a white beak.

Trivia

  • According to the game's credits, Screech belongs to the "Lazy Landlubbers" enemy class.
  • The evil parrot, Polly Roger, from the Donkey Kong Country animated series may be based loosely off of Screech.
  • Screech has his own theme music which plays when he is being raced. In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Screech's theme music plays while Diddy and Dixie (transformed into Rambi the Rhino) are being chased through the last stretch of the level "Rambi Rumble" by King Zing.
  • Screech, on the box art of Donkey Kong Country 2, can be seen whacking Squawks with a baseball bat in the background.
