Template:Levelbox Riverbank Riot is the eleventh level in the Donkey Kong Land game, Donkey Kong Land III. Located in the south-west of Primate Plains, it takes place on the banks of the river that runs through this area.

To complete this river level, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong must either make progress on the banks or swim in the river itself, despite the ill-intentioned hordes of Kobbles, Sneeks, Bristles and Buzzes. Since the banks are much higher here than in Koco Channel, the Kongs often need Barrel Cannons to reach the hilltops. In the waters, Kocos and Lurchins try to hinder Dixie and Kiddy from swimming through the narrow tunnels; because of their bulkiness, Bounty Basses are also major aquatic obstacles.

In the Time Attack mode, unlocked after beating Baron K. Roolenstein in the Lost World, Riverbank Riot appears again to represent "River" levels. It must be completed in less than 55 seconds; so as not to lose time, the Kongs had better stay on the banks unless it is necessary to swim. Jumping on flying Knik-Knaks may allow them to reach secret shortcuts involving Barrel Cannons.

Level layout

When the level begins, the Kongs travel into a nearby Barrel Cannon. It blasts them to a higher area, where they need to fall down from some ledges and make it down the mound of land. Crossing a small gap of water, they walk down a mostly flat surface while passing some enemies. After getting the letter K, they swim through a shallow body of water and make their way into a narrow trench. After they dodging all the fish foes there, they can find the surface of the water and soon make it to land. Once they jump over two Buzzes, they can find the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the apes make their way down the path and use the help of a Knik-Knak to cross a small gap. Farther on, they enter a small area of water and swim across, finding the letter N and land. Walking across the area, the apes find themselves jumping up some ledges and later crossing small, Buzz infested abysses. After the third gap, they can find the letter G and head up some slanted pathways while avoiding common enemies to enter another body of water. Once they get to the other side of the water, they should see a flagpole on land. If they get on land and touch the pole, the level ends.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • When the monkeys enter the first body of water, they need to sink down and move to the left, passing some enemies. Eventually, they find a Bonus Barrel, leading to the Bonus Level. Once they are taken to the special stage, they have to run through another riverbank, avoiding several Buzzes and crossing gaps. At the end of the stage, they can find a Bonus Coin.
  • Shortly after finding the letter N, the Kongs notice a steel barrel lying on the path. They should use it to defeat two nearby Buzzes flying in a gap. Once the wasps are gone, they need to jump into a hidden barrel in the gap and be shot into a Bonus Barrel. This special barrel blasts them into a Bonus Level, where they need to hop off of many Knik-Knaks in mid-air. Staying in the air is vital to completing the stage. Once all the insects are gone, a Bonus Coin appears nearby.

DK Coin

  • When the level begins, the heroes find a Koin with the DK Coin next to the first ledge. They have to defeat him to get it. Though his shield protects him from most attacks, the monkeys can use a steel barrel found behind the start and throw it against the wall. As the Koin pays attention to the Kongs, the barrel bounces back and hits him on the side, thus giving the heroes his DK Coin.
