A Reset Rocket is an important element in Super Mario Maker. It appears in Course Maker, and the icon appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. If held down for three seconds, it shoots off and clears off the entire screen, getting rid of all course elements, including items and enemies, in both areas. This can be undone by tapping Undodog's icon.

The Reset Rocket reappears in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. The icon in the same position, and it serves the same purpose. Holding down on it clears the entire course of all elements.

The Reset Rocket later appears in Super Mario Maker 2. It can be found in the Course Maker in the same screen position and serves the same purpose. Reset Rockets also appear in the game's Story Mode, where they play a big part. In the opening, shortly after Mario and the Toads finish building Peach's Castle, they notice a Reset Rocket button in front of the castle. Just as they start to sort it out, Undodog appears, and while they are distracted, he steps on the button and holds it down for five seconds, causing the entire castle to get destroyed. Much later on, in the ending sequence, as fireworks are shot into the sky and everyone waves at the player, Undodog notices another Reset Rocket button in front of the castle, which worries the others.

In Super Mario Maker, in the title screen, if the player taps the "A" in the word "MAKER", a countdown starts from three and the letter will shoot off like a rocket before clearing all items and enemies on the screen, similar to a Reset Rocket.

Also, in Super Mario Maker, in 10 Mario Challenge and 100 Mario Challenge, after Mario hits the "TO BE CONTINUED" text, Undodog follows after him, riding a Reset Rocket.

In Super Mario Maker 2, when playing in the nighttime theme, a small image of Undodog riding a Reset Rocket can occasionally be seen near the top of the screen.
