Template:Levelbox Red Wharf is the first level of the world, located south of Cape Codswallop, in the classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color game, Donkey Kong Land III. Its name is a pun on the British television comedy series Red Dwarf.

In this stilt level, the Kongs need to walk along a series of boardwalks overhanging a large body of water. Noticeably, this level is the Donkey Kong Land III equivalent of Lakeside Limbo from Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, and both feature Sneeks and Kobbles. Although Red Wharf mostly takes place on the docks, the Kongs can also swim in the shallow water to find extra bananas and a Bonus Barrel. As the game's first level, Red Wharf does not feature any exclusive hazards and is a rather short level. The Kongs will, however, not only be walking along boardwalks and swimming through some shallow water, but sometimes be climbing along short tightropes or shooting through barrels.

Level layout

At the start of the level, the heroes need to walk down a few boardwalks and defeat some enemies. Following some banana trails, the Kongs pass a few Sneeks and find the letter K. After that, they need to hop up onto a ledge and continue east, where they have to run down some slanted pathways and then follow some bananas, in the formation of an arrow, into the shallow water. There, the heroes find the letter O. Once they get the letter, they have to jump out of the sea and walk up the path to find the level's Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the Kongs need to walk down more other the path, defeating enemies, and hop into a barrel to be shot into the letter N. They, then, land on a higher area of the level. At the end of the area, they need to follow a banana trail downwards and roll into a small abyss to get the letter G. After that, they are greeted by more enemies to beat. Knocking each one out, the apes have to walk down the straight boardwalks to find a flagpole. Touching it ends the level.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • After the Kongs dive into a shallow area of water to find the letter O, they must swim under the wharfs to the left and soon come up to a Bonus Barrel. If they move into it, they encounter the game's first Bonus Level. There, they must run along some boardwalks and dodge some enemies in search for the Bonus Coin. After crossing a small gap of water, they find this special coin.
  • Shortly after the letter N, the heroes drop down to a lower area and see a small tightrope attached to two poles. They need to cling onto the rope and jump to the right to find the second Bonus Barrel. Once they get in it, they find the second Bonus Level. There, they need to hop into a Rotatable Barrel and blast onto the top of a roof-like part of a wharf. Jumping off of this, they have to grab many stars in the formation of an arrow. Once all the stars are collected, the Bonus Coin appears in a high area of the stage where the Kongs have to blast to.

DK Coin

  • After the letter G, the group see a barrel in the air. They have to jump into it and blast through a short chain of barrels to land above the level's flagpole. There, they meet a Koin with the DK Coin. They must defeat the Kremling to get his coin, though his shield protects most of their attacks. The Kongs have only one option to defeat him with. They have to pick up a nearby barrel, stand on the Koin, and throw the barrel into the edge of the screen. While the Koin is distracted, the barrel will bounce back and hit his side, beating the enemy. Once this is done, the apes gain the DK Coin.
