Template:Minigame-infobox Moped Mayhem is an unlockable extra minigame in Mario Party 8 that can only be played in the Extras Zone.

Introduction

Moped Mayhem
Moped Mayhem starting. Goomba sits on Pole for this race.

The camera will show the thirty competitors (including the human players) upon the mopeds, the same number of competitors F-Zero X has; and the game will play a racing jingle before the race starts. The starting grid for a race is always made up of 7 rows in a 5-4-5-4-5-4-3 manner from the front row to the back row, with the human player(s) always starting in the back row. In two-player mode, the screen splits to show the second player. The lights will beep twice, then turn green, which officially starts the race and the minigame.

When the player plays as a Mii, it will replace one of the characters in the race.

Gameplay

This game is a racing minigame with 3 optional courses. It has a massive 30 competitors, ranging from the original playable characters to Shy Guy and even Thwomp. They will race around the chosen course three times and compete for 1st place. Players cannot go the wrong way around the course. There is a 10 minute time limit for this minigame, if players take longer than 9:30, a 30-second countdown begins.

CPU

This minigame has a strange CPU system due to the fact that there are 30 competitors instead of the usual 4 (or 8 in Mario Party 7). A CPU's starting position often has no effect on the position the CPU will finish in the race. While most of the CPU racers will keep ideal speed during a race, one or two CPU racers will always go very slow in a race, so the human player usually will place no worse than 28th in this minigame (even if they time out in Course 3), unless they do very poorly. These CPU racers will often be lapped by the 1st place racer before they even enter their 2nd lap. Several CPU racers will also go fairly slow, so they may be lapped by the 1st place racer as well before they even enter their final lap.

Sometimes if the human player does not place 1st, a CPU character that is not playable in Mario Party 8 comes in 1st. Also, at least 20 CPU racers will be on the lead lap by the time the 1st place racer finishes.

Ending

The player will cross the finish lines, and do a victory pose while still on their moped. In 2-player mode, the player with the faster time does a victory pose, but if the finishing times are the same and a tie occurs, no one will do a victory pose (even though the displayed positions are different). This also occurs if 10 minutes pass and one of the players does not finish.

Trivia

  • If 10 minutes pass before the race is completed, the Draw music plays, even if one player finishes in 2-player mode.
    • The timer will display 9'59"99 if this happens, and Tie will not appear on the screen.
  • In 1-player mode, the red dot is the 1st place racer, and it disappears once the 1st place racer finishes; in 2-player mode, the red dot is P2's racer.
  • The minigame's time limit is the same as a race's time limit in Mario Kart 8.
  • When played in Course 3, in almost all cases two of the CPU racers will DNF the race due to the race's 10-minute time limit.
    • It is possible for the human player to DNF a race in 28th place due to this (as long as they are ahead of the CPU racers).
    • In 2-player mode, it is uncommon to see only one CPU racer DNF in a race (a 1-in-29 chance).
