Template:Levelbox Minky Mischief is the eighth level in the Game Boy and Game Boy Color game, Donkey Kong Land III. Located in the eastern woods of Primate Plains, it is the second level in this area as well as the first tree level.

During this tree level, Dixie and Kiddy Kong need to make their way through a forest of giant trees, whose trunks are hollow for the most part. They are able to stand on bark platforms and branches to navigate the maze, but unfortunately for them, the woods are inhabited by a territorial tribe of Minkeys. These unfriendly monkeys throw acorns at the Kongs as they try to climb up ropes, however, Dixie and Kiddy can avoid the projectiles by hiding behind several Barrel Shields. The Kongs also encounter a few Nids, who may unwillingly help them reach higher branches. Though the level may become difficult at some point, the monkeys find an Animal Barrel, which, upon being broken, releases their friend, Squawks. This parrot then take over until passing a No Animal Sign. With the limited amount of time the player has playing as the bird, Squawks is able to use his egg-shooting skills to defeat many Buzzes.

Minky Mischief is a reminiscent of the Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! level, Barrel Shield Bust-Up.

Level layout

At the beginning of the level, the heroes exit a narrow trunk to climb up several short branches. With the help of some Nids, they make it to an entryway into another tree trunk. There, they climb up a long rope while avoiding the restless Minkeys. At the top of this rope, they travel to the left and cross into another tree. In this tree, they hop up some bark platforms and cross back into the other tree. Walking to the other end of this tree, they follow bananas down a branch-filled area and enter the bottom of a different tree. Leaving that tree from the right, they climb down some more branches and enter yet another tree trunk. Moving down its bark platforms, they find a pathway to the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the group climb downwards through another tree trunk to find an Animal Barrel with Squawks. Once they turn into the parrot, Squawks flies upwards through the next tree and dodge or defeat many Buzzes. Upon exiting the tree, he maneuver around some branches to enter another area of the same tree. Now flying up through the rest of the tree, the parrot must watch out for more Buzzes and cross into the next tree. This time, he heads downwards and move along a branch to enter another tree. From there, the bird exits just to the right and maneuver around more branches and Buzzes in his way. Going back into the tree to his left at the bottom of the area, he continues downwards and pass a few more enemies to find a No Animal Sign in a branch. It turns him back into the Kongs, who needs to use the aid of a Nid to grab onto a high-up rope. While climbing up this rope, they are greeted by more Minkeys. Avoiding each one, they reach the top of the tree and cross into another to find a flagpole. If they touch the flagpole, the level ends.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • Just before the Star Barrel, the heroes find a small gap in a piece of bark. If they into this, passing a Buzz, they will land next to a Bonus Barrel. It blasts them into a Bonus Level, where they need to climb up to the top of a tree trunk by using platforms and Nids. At the top, they make their way down from the outside of the tree and collect stars. If they collect all twenty-two stars in twenty seconds, they find the Bonus Coin at the end of the stage.
  • Near the end of the level, the group find some Buzzes flying up and down near each other. At the point, Squawks must fly upwards and defeat some Buzzes to come up to a Bonus Barrel. Once it takes him into a Bonus Level, he needs to pass a No Animal Sign and turn back into the Kongs. Then, the Kongs have to run through a large, enemy-infested, labyrinth. If they find the end of this maze in forty seconds, they find the Bonus Coin.

DK Coin

  • Just before the flagpole, the apes walk across a branch between two tree trunks. There, they need to jump up and try to land in a hidden barrel. If they find the barrel, it will fire them to an area where they see a Koin with the DK Coin. They have to defeat him to get it. Though his shield protects him from most attacks, the monkeys can use their barrel and throw it against the wall. As the Koin pays attention to the monkeys, the barrel will bounce back and hit him on the side, giving the heroes his DK Coin.
