Metal Face, as he appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Metal Face is a Faced Mechon and recurring major antagonist in Xenoblade Chronicles, responsible for the death of a friend of the protagonist, Shulk. He appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as the stage boss of the Gaur Plain stage. His appearance in the game was first hinted at in Shulk's reveal trailer.

Metal Face appears when the stage transitions to night time and lands in the middle of the stage. He attacks any players within reach of his claws. He can also attack with a laser beam that destroys a half of the stage, which is restored after he leaves. After attacking with a laser beam, he sits on either the top left or right side of the stage. When leaving the stage, he may taunt and fly across the stage, ramming into any players in his path. Like other bosses, Metal Face can be attacked, and attacking him enough defeats him, though he will damage the players that didn't defeat him in an explosion if they are close enough. If Shulk is among the fighters, Metal Face will utter special quotes directed to him.

Like other stage bosses, Metal Face can randomly appear in Smash Tour and once any player encounters him, a match will start. In the match, the players must focus on defeating Metal Face, with the person who lands the final blow getting all the stat boosts he carries. A player can also win the match simply by being the last player standing. Metal Face does not appear in 8-Player Smash, and CPU players will never try to attack him.

Trivia

Metal Face
  • Metal Face has an unused stock icon in the game's files, suggesting that defeating him would result in a KO similar to Ridley on the Pyrosphere stage. Supporting this is an in-game tip stating that the player who KOs Metal Face has that KO added to their total at the end of the match, which does not happen.
